As a child development specialists, we called using a group of words as if they were one a "phrase." Young kids use phrases a lot because they hear those words together. It can be hard to tell when they are intentionally stringing words together, but when Apollo says "its a bug" it seems to be intentional, since he also says "bug" alone.

I have an African Grey. He’s noisy and messy. He used to bait us into trying to touch him and then bite our fingers. He gets mad when the TV is on too long and starts banging on things. His cage smells like a chicken coop. He’s also my little dude. He and I are on great terms now, but it took years (not his original human). A parrot is like a preschooler who will stay at that age forever. Not an undertaking to be done without thought.

You must certainly know about Alex who was a grey parrot and the subject of a thirty-year experiment by animal psychologist Irene Pepperberg. I think that grey parrot lived alone in the lab when he was not being trained. I therefore have great hopes to see you teach subject verbs and complements to Appolo 🙂. I know of an exceptionnal border collie who could get some verbs and complements.

We suspect a poor incubation setup. It can lead to a lot of different problems, including toe deformities, which she has, but fortunately doesn't suffer from. She's behind Soleil in a lot of cognitive milestones. Object permanence and reaction time are a couple examples. She very fortunately doesn't suffer a lesser quality of life due to it, but it does mean her behavior is very abnormal compared to other caiques.

He’s decent at saying “bathroom”, but it usually sounds like “badfroom” or “baroom” and it’s always mashed together with “gotta go”. He’s also learning to say broom.

Merry Christmas Apollo! Apollo you are my favorite African grey. So, many years ago I almost bought a cockatoo. I decided it might be more than I could handle so I got a cockatiel instead. She is now 24 years old! I know she doesn't have a lot of years left and in the last year I've decided my next will be an African grey. What advice do you have for me? Like a young couple with baby twins and a toddler looking and standing frazzled. If you can, spend a few minutes composing yourself, maybe have a quiet coffee, and let the birds out once you’re ready to be smiling and happy for them. Kids pick up on your moods, so I think birds would too. Tone of voice is really vital. I’ve seen other greys growling. It’s fear or anger according to their humans.
