We tend to do things a little different each year. This year I'm tying in our read-aloud (The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street) and going to have similar type gifty things but scheduled to go with a certain chapter/page-so they'll get the item(s) when we get to that page of our read-aloud. I saw this as a book club idea but thought it would be so fun for our family throughout the Christmas season.

My kids are getting pjs, a Hallmark ornament, and a Christmasy blanket. I usually just get them pjs, so they should be surprised with the extras! We get a Playmobil or Lego advent calendar and take turns opening it each day. Whoever opens the calendar also lights the Advent candles that night.

Do you write the child's name and date on the back of the ornament or do you somehow remember whose is whose? I love the care you put into each box and that you contiuned your mom's tradition. Can you share more about the devotionals you do in your home? I would love to see the kids books more in depth and also any books that you and your husband use.

We do boxes the weekend of thanksgiving. We call them elf boxes because the elf on the shelf brings them. I put advent devotionals in ours too we wait till December 1 st to give advent calendars.

I’ve done the same for my kids for several years now except I call it a December box which they receive on 1st December. It typically includes little goodies for them to enjoy during the month of December. I too realised that Christmas Eve was way too late. I love seeing the contents of you’re boxes. We’re in the U.K. so are slightly different.

I tried the Shrimp and Grits pjs and thank goodness I got them on a very good sale because they are made out of polyester and the sizes are weird. I am glad you like them but we absolutely did not. I am not complaining but wanted people to be aware of how cheaply these pjs are made before spending hard earned money on them. One set at normal price is around 55 dollars. I do love you ideas other than these pjs.

Last year their sets were made out of pima cotton (many of their other items are made with this which I prefer) and they are soooo soft and cozy! I'd agree with you that this year's fabric was not as great as their pima sets are, although my girls are still loving and choosing this gown on cool nights, and the sizes were perfectly in line for us...definitely reach out to them, as we've never had size discrepancies in our years of ordering!
