I bought grandson starter Lews reel for Christmas. I admit I was worried about him losing interest before learning how to cast. I looked at this reel initially but quickly dismissed as too expensive for kid. But you made a point about "Keeps on giving". I agree with you 100% having dealt with kid backlashes while trying to actually catch fish. So, I just ordered one and am taking starter reel back.

I've been throwing the Gamakatsu underspins. I like. the wire as it keeps the blade spinning well. That and 6 Sense 3" whale swim baits have caught my wife and I a ton of fish. I am going to have to really look into the Lews Gold reels.

I picked up one in November when I was fishing every day. I tend to back lash especially with FC. Fewer backlashes than my Tatulas. I bought another one during the Lews sale. Color ugh? No backlashes priceless!

The color grows on me because I have a bunch of rods out and I can always find it quickly when I need that rod

I bought two of them, is it a good reel … yes, will it backlash ? Damn straight it will backlash, not as advertised! One of the reels is a lot quieter and smoother than the other which happens with reels, they both operate about the same. It’s a good reel but my curados and tatula’s are good reels too 👍

Yeah I wish everyone just made black reels. Bad enough all these stupid rod colors. You can end up with some god awful looking combos.
