Didn't intent to write such a long rant, but after I started, I could not stop - need this out of my system Felt like a bit of a fever dream watching this: randomly introducing premises and characters, providing no time or reason to feel connected to them, then suddenly ending them whilst playing sad music, and a long explanation as to why it is sad... Joy for example - doctor spends two seconds with her in a hotel room, she gets mind controlled, he tells himself the code to free her, she then explains that despite her name and appearance she is sad because her mum died... and then, after little to no dialogue (outside of mind control), becomes one with a star - the star of Bethlehem, and then absorbs her mum. she does nothing the entire story, and then we are supposed to have a connection with her because the doctor stayed in the same hotel room and stared at a chair??? then there is Trevor who tells us he spent several million years inside a star all for the sake of a mission that the doctor duped him into taking on using a fake ID - and this loyalty and dedication to a man he knew for 10 mins is just brushed off as a perfectly normal thing? we also get to watch a montage of the doctor living a normal life for a year with a character we met 2 minutes earlier - and we are expected to feel something when he has to go... and then there is the setting of the show: a secret hotel that has unlocked the technology of time manipulation, and has sporadically taken in guests throughout all of human history: none of whom seem to think there is anything odd going on. do we know who is running the hotel? do we know why no one on earth knows about its existence? do we know why everyone seems to think its normal? do we know how they acquired the technology? I was initially intrigued by all the unanswered questions, and how the story might explore them. but the more I watched the more It seemed to just be a product of Lazy writing Been a Fan of the show since I was a kid, and I was excited when I heard of Moffat's return. Omg finally someone gets the point that the doctor has never been a stereotypical man and that he isn't supposed to be a macho man that that humans are able to learn their emotional body to communicate passively to reach people well why can't someone whoes lived for a billion years known that specially since he isn't supposed to be a warrior or like day of the doctor never cruel or cowardly, for years I didn't think that as ASD and ADHD person i would be able to learn how to show emotions properly but watching doctor who helped me with that and now it's something I'm really confident in. Say what you want about Russell's writing but nucti is one of those actual bad characters people say are woke he isn't moaning about being gay and having a tantrum about having to think for himself he is hard working actor Great with fans my favourite doctor and a lovely person
Because a) it's become a ridiculously frequent occurrence that takes away from the emotional impact such scenes would otherwise have, b) because the Doctor as a character doesn't allow such trivial things stand in the way of getting to work and saving people, c) he's a 2,000+ year old Time Lord who's been through hell and back, so him being constantly shaken by the smallest thing is out of character, d) we've seen what he can withstand (despite wavering for a small period every cycle, not even 4.5 billion years of torture was enough to break the Doctor's spirit), and the few times the Doctor has cried are generally when it's a physical impossibility for him to make a move or solve a situation (e.g. after he's just watched a best friend die and has nothing to do _but_ focus on that tragedy), e) the Doctor often internalises his pain and uses it to bolster his own resolve, and f) as Twelve put it, he "doesn't have time for the luxury of outrage" whilst there are still people in danger.

@@dylanburton4955 Yeah he has. But, I don't think it will be. I think either hes not allowed to say anything yet but as we get closer to April, Steven will be revealed as a writer for series 15. Or he will be involved in series 16. I will be surprised if he never comes back during RTD and Ncuti's run

"That’s why everyone always leaves you. That’s why you’re always alone." Yesssss, this is the kind of introspection and emotional storytelling/character work I want from Doctor Who. It shouldn't be mean and broody and awful all the time, or even most of the time; that would be awful. But it can get a little dark sometimes, darn it.

@@jeckjeck3119 I don't like the current era due to its poor characterisation of the Doctor (since when was the character known for standing around and impotently instead of knuckling down and working on solutions, did I miss the character development that allows him to abandon innocents in danger so he can make out with a complete stranger, and why is he now incapable of making compelling arguments and standing up to racism?), the idiotic retconning of things (it's been thoroughly explored that time heals small alterations to the timeline, so that butterfly scene is something that goes against the fundamental principles of the universe; also, Sutekh sitting on the TARDIS for well over a thousand years is stupid: why didn't the Time Lords detect him when they were on high alert during the Time War, why didn't the TARDIS herself mention anything, and what about those times when the TARDIS was dunked into the Crucible, blown up by the Silence, and shrunk by the Boneless?), and the terribly-executed and ill-thought out plots (why did old Ruby suddenly gain the ability to teleport and time travel, and why did Roger ap Gwilliam resign to avoid Ruby rather than simply have her fired? RTD himself has also stated that the series finale suffers from a "complete narrative breakdown," so that's confirmation that even _he_ thinks it's bad). I don't mind political messaging, but I start having an issue when it's hamfisted in at the cost of overall quality or trying to talk down to and lecture the audience about things (who the hell did Rose think she was when she told _the Doctor_ off for "assuming pronouns," and what was the whole "identifying as a woman means you can think of things that a 2,000 year old Time Lord can't, and that said Time Lord going from a woman to a man somehow takes that ability away" thing?).
