I'm happily alone. I have 4 children and they all do their own thing. I stopped decorating a few years ago and got rid of all the clutter. All those years of decorating and shopping and cooking and all the clean up. GONE. Don't miss it at all. It's just another day at my house and I enjoy the peace and quiet.

Our Christmas Day will start with coffee then my husband and I will take a wreath to my mum and dad at our local cemetery , have a little chat, then home. We will then have something to eat, more coffee or maybe a glass of something. We’ll open our stockings, believe it or not even in our 70’s we still do that. We don’t have any children but I love to do the childlike things. Dinner won’t be until about 4 o’clock, which this year is steak, just didn’t fancy Turkey. After dinner/lunch we will open more presents, watch tv until it’s time to take our dog out for a little walk. Like us she is also plodding on in years. Boxing Day we go down to the prom, watch all the crazy swimmers go into the sea, we then go onto the pier for coffee and a brandy. We then see how the day progresses, there’s always something going on. Fiona I wish you, Graham and your lovely family a very happy Christmas, have a wonderful day and thank you so very much for all your hard work and wonderful videos. ❤ PS your table looks lovely, I always do mine on Christmas Eve. 🍾🥂🎄🧚♀️🎅🏻🍷

Our tradition had my grandparents stay and there were also about 14 of us. Christmas Eve they all got tipsy and sang songs, recited old poems. One year 1975 we have a reel to reel recording of this which I listen to every year and have a few tears remembering them all. Merry Christmas to you all 🎄☃️♥️ xx

🇨🇦 I grew up with wonderful Christmas traditions, including Midnight mass, Santa, stockings, gift opening, brunch, Christmas Dinner with minimum 25 people, every other year with the other side of the family. Fast forward to today, I’m now 62. I no longer celebrate any holidays. Too much pain and grief with 2 children not there anymore, those empty chairs at our table. I have 4 grown children, no grandchildren, so we try to get together, eat a traditional dinner and usually watch one of the Christmas Vacation movies. I just try to get through the day as easy as possible. This year I’m living in Mexico 🇲🇽 alone, while my daughter is home in Canada 🇨🇦 we are planning to have a watch party tonight watching Christmas Vacation. Ive ordered in a Prime rib dinner for tonight and a traditional Canadian Christmas dinner! I think people forget about the pain holidays can create for families with missing loved ones. Merry Christmas 🎄 to all who celebrate! 🎉

Christmas tradition in the Campbell household (in Southern California). On Christmas Eve we make tamales, watch Christmas movies, our Grandson can open one gift (just like our children did when they were young), read Luke 2, leave cookies out for Santa, and say goodbye to Toby the Elf on the Shelf. Although our grandson is 12, traditions are hard to break and this is how we keep them alive for future generations; he knows the truth about Santa and Toby, but we keep up the "magic" of Christmas in this way. On Christmas morning, we get up before sunrise, everyone opens their gifts, the turkey goes in the oven, tamales and eggs for breakfast, then just spend the rest of the day enjoying family and fun. Merry Christmas. I couldn't stop laughing at your story of the duck in the water. That is one Christmas you will never forget. You may have been angry at the time, but now I'm sure you must laugh at the memory.

Fiona, your Christmas table is gorgeous! You have inspired me to take my Christmas table up several notches. Too late for this year, but next year..... In my family we always have a Christmas puzzle. It is usually 1000 pieces and the more elaborate it is the better. The hardest one so far was a collage of Victorian Christmas cards. It was absolutely beautiful once it was finished, but it took all day and well into the night to complete. There is always the one person (my aunt) who stays at the puzzle table and works on it, but others come and go, put a piece in here and there. My uncle always puts one piece in his pocket so that he can be the one to "finish" the puzzle. It's a tradition that goes back as far as I can remember. Whoever hosts Christmas will be the one to receive the puzzle as a gift and it is the first gift opened. Merry Christmas to you, Graham and your family. I hope it is just lovely for you all.

We gave up on our Christmas traditions. The kids grew up and they'd be here for dinner but then go off somewhere. Christmas Eve, my sisters, nephew and niece would come down and we'd have a little dinner and we'd exchange presents. But there's nobody now, they are all gone except for nephew and niece. Makes me feel teary to remember. One thing I do is to light candles for each one of them on Christmas Day. As for a Montecito Christmas, frankly I don't give a tinkers cuss! Hope you and the family have a happy, peaceful and blessed Christmas, Fiona and Graham. Love you both. ❤❤❤❤

All presents opened on Christmas morning at one time. My father would pick a different elf each Christmas to pass out all the gifts then it was every man for himself. What a mess of torn paper, ribbons and bows. What fun we had. Happy Christmas!!!

My husband (2nd marriage & our kids were 5, 9 & 12) tried to do the same thing as your Dad Fiona but I refused to go along with it! The most I asked was for them was to wait til we had a cup of coffee ready and I had put on some sausages so breakfast could be eaten pretty quickly after the gift opening. My favorite tradition was taking all the kids walking around the neighborhood to see the houses lit up on Christmas Eve - it wore them out so much that they'd usually be asleep by 10! Unfortunately the little buggers would still wake up by 5:30 raring to go. As they got older, they would wake us up with cups of coffee. The memories are a blessing to have. Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

One of my favorite traditions is putting a lemon in my son’s stocking (a fake one if we don’t have fresh on hand). When he was 5, he got in trouble at school for tossing a fake lemon onto the floor in the playhouse area of the classroom. It was literally the only time he got into trouble at school. Anyway, it was all I could do NOT to laugh when his teacher pulled me aside and told me about it as if he’d murdered a classmate or something. 😂. That Christmas we started the tradition of reminding him of his dastardly behavior by putting the lemon in the stocking. He is 30 now and newly married but we still have a stocking for him-with a lemon on top! He still gets pissy about it LOL. Merry Christmas Fiona and Graham! Love from California.

Lol - Graham & the duck!!! So funny! Mind if I share a similar story? On a similar note, my adult son has a flat above me. I LOVE having him so close. He comes down for a plate of supper every night, but since he works out of his flat, he usually eats up there too (except on Sundays when I can twist his arm for a sit down meal). As he's just turned 30 I've been trying to impress upon him the necessity of REALLY having a balanced diet & not just following his preferred, carnivorous-only inclinations! To my most pleasant surprise, after REALLY turning up the pressure, I noticed he started returning his plate WITHOUT the veggies being left behind, ignored on the plate! Finally, I thought, finally he's taking his diet seriously!!! A month or so passed by & it was time to start sprucing up the border around our home for Springtime flowers & perennials. There was ONLY one drawback to this home that we bought a few years back & that is the closeness to the pavement (sidewalk). It's literally an arm's length to the side of our house! So, it's a little uncomfortable to see the occasional passerby walking by so close to our windows, especially since the bedrooms are on that side of the house! So, getting back to prepping for Springtime flowers. . . as I worked my way from the rear of the house to the side by the pavement I was suddenly HORRIFIED by what I saw! My face turned beet red, burning hot with sheer embarrassment!!! There, under a window from the upstairs flat, a mere arm's reach from the public walkway, was a MOUND of discarded veggies - so perfectly preserved by the cold weather- that I'd so painstakingly prepared for him for over a month!!! I looked to see if anyone was nearby, hoping so desperately to NOT meet eye-to-eye with someone & tried to disperse the "mound" among the plants and under the deck for a family of bunnies that shelter there each year. Yikes!!! Well, adult son has to dish up his own veggies now, if & when he wants them. He still gets the occasional lecture on balanced nutrition, but I realize I can't, as my Russian friends would say, "throw down a mattress every place he might fall!" But even as my children enter their 30s, 40s & 50s I still find myself worrying and wanting to toss down those mattresses to soften their, "falls." Sorry this was so long. Hope it wasn't too boring. But I just imagined how you felt, Fiona, not just after you saw the little duck legs bobbing - but then - the swan swimming with the duck swaying on it's break, swimming closer & closer to your boat!!! I'd have been mortified!!! So, in commaradarie with you, I thought I'd share my experience. Merry Christmas to you & Graham & your extended family

Merry Christmas from Las Vegas, Nevada. When my brother and I were growing up, because we are Catholic we would go to church on Christmas Eve. before church we were ways allowed to open one to two presents before church. We would come home we would sit around the tree and enjoy the night. Christmas Day we would open presents. A lot of years we would go over to our paternal grandparents for Christmas dinner. Some years we would have Christmas dinner at home especially as we got older. In recent years since my nephews were born, we would go to church, and then we would got over to my sister in law’s parent’s house especially over the last several years for Christmas Eve dinner. Then on Christmas Day, we go over to my brother’s house and we open all the presents together as a family. Then later we would go over to their house again. And our tradition in recent years we would do pizza for dinner. Yes you heard that right. We have pizza for dinner. This year we are doing things a bit differently. We are going to church tonight to the family mass, then we are going to my brother’s house for Christmas Eve dinner. Then tomorrow we are going over to open Christmas presents. Then we are all having dinner at our individual houses. So, it will be just my mom and I alone for Christmas dinner. We will still have pizza for dinner though. My dad passed almost 3 and a half years ago from a heart attack. So it is just my mom, I, and my brother, and his family. I just wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas from Las Vegas, Nevada. Merry Christmas Fiona and family from Las Vegas, Nevada.

We always have an appetizer dinner on Christmas Eve, some years we go to Mass, when we come home we give our children one gift each to open on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning we get down to it, we're practically tossing the gifts at each other, the kids get their stockings, we pass the gifts out quickly, sometimes the children that unwrap slower get help from a "helpful" sibling to open their gifts so that the "helpful" sibling" could play with their own toys quicker, we play Christmas carols, sing songs and watch movies then we eat a huge breakfast, everyone gets ready for the day, we take family photos by the tree, a lovely family photo and then a silly photo, I watch The Queen/ King's speech, then we have an appetizer lunch where we watch old home movies and play games, when the kids were younger they'd go outside to play in the snow if it was warm enough and share with their friends what they all got and then later we have an enormous dinner. After everything is tidied up we light the fire, my Husband and I congratulate each other for pulling it off again for another year, then he admits that it was mainly me😎We watch classic Christmas movies and by the time we go to bed we are exhausted. Now that I've read all of that I know why I'm wiped out by the end of the day. It's so totally worth it though if only because our family is together and honestly that truly is what is important, us being together, the smiles on our children's faces, and just the love🌻Every year I truly count my blessings. I sincerely hope that I am providing my children with the feelings of warmth, love, safety, family and the memories that I was lucky enough to feel as a child. Merry Christmas Fiona and Graham🎄God Bless Your Family.

Growing up Mom always did Christmas and her sister did Thanksgiving. Different generations. Cousins a bunch of stepbrothers and brothers. Too many to sit at the table so we set the kitchen and dining room with food and drink. Some at at table some snack tables. We all got along . My step brother and brother got gag gifts for cousins and aunt and uncle. Probably 25 or more crowded in. As kids we opened Christmas mornings. As young adults Christmas Eve go out for a nice dinner with immediate family of about 10 and opened presents. We each took turns by year as Santa handing out the gifts. And church at some point. I always had to step outside in the cold air just for a quiet moment. I loved it and was really fortunate.

Merry Christmas, Fiona, Graham and your darlings! I wish you a wonderful year and may your crazy Sugars and the usual trolls get nothing but coals under the tree! You both are so delightful and kind, and this American (from Hammond, Louisiana) loves your videos and you! 🎄

Merry Christmas Fiona, Graham, Lady Faith, Braden and Benji ❤❤. 😂😂😂great duck story. My late son started our tradition of bbq steak and lobster for Christmas dinner because he was getting sick of too much turkey at both of his grandma’s houses the day before and the day after 😂😂 The table looks stunning btw

Merry Christmas to all of you!❤❤❤ I started a new tradition when our children were old enough to believe in Santa. We had our Christmas roast beef dinner on Christmas Eve. No cooking Christmas Day, just left over roast beef, salads, sandwiches, fruit, trifle & mince pies. then we would have roast beef & horseradish sandwiches & the kids would have cereal for breakfast before opening their presents. We are on our own now and just eat what we fancy - just sampled the freshly made mincemeat roll with cream- lush! Too lazy to make mince pies! Boxing Day was always roast pork etc. Diet on the day after!🤣🤣🤣

I don’t really remember much about early Christmases except the tree went up the weekend before Christmas and was taken down the day after. (We always had to have an artificial one due to my asthma and allergies so mother always made sure to let her resentment toward me made known.). Mother put a hidden code on the packages instead of tags, but she had forgotten it by Christmas, so you never knew whose package you were going to open, which was always funny. Later when we were older, we started having tamales and chili con queso Christmas Eve, then go to the midnight Christmas carol service, come home and open gifts. Then, Christmas Day was always the formal dinner. Linens ironed, silver polished, good china and crystal washed and dried. Traditional turkey and dressing (my favorite part of the dinner), sweet potatoes, peas, cranberry sauce, rolls, then pie. Since it’s been Christmas on my own for a long time now, the only thing I still do is chili con queso with corn chips on Christmas Eve now.

Well we are about 5 hours to countdown for the family to arrive here for Christmas lunch (NZ). Count down then is about 2 hours before i tell everyone to bugger off, lol. My kids love it as they have friends and other family to visit or talk to on line. Anyway whatever people are doing have a nice day and enjoy company or the quiet space around you.

Christmas tradition takes place before the 25th. Got together with various friends throughout the month and shared experiences -- some window shopping, special lunches at new-to-us restaurants, a cozy dinner, attended a street fair, and enjoyed The Nutcracker Ballet at a lovely old historical theater. Christmas Day will find just us two at home in our pj's, quietly eating spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread, while the cats eat tuna. We exchange one gift apiece -- he'll get his all-time favorite coffee beans, and I will get a set of books I've had my eye on for a while. Blessings...

Thank you for pronouncing Glenfiddich. All these years I thought it was pronounced 'Glen-fiddick'. Obviously I'm not much of a whiskey drinker. 😂 My Christmas traditions are having a glass of red wine, or better, a glass of Rosa Regale sparking wine, on Christmas Eve. All the very best to you, Graham, Faith, and Ben this Christmas. 🎄

Cheers fiona, I'm knackered, up early to shop, pick up Turkey, prepared everything like you, just finished wrapping some last minute prezzies. Having a vodka and tonic and catching my breathe. Cook turkey in the early morning, hubby does a small breakfast, then we open some prezzies, the rest we save for after lunch.Merry Christmas everyone, have a wonderful day.❤
