Hot Tip! My Dad, who had a HUGE, beautiful village, used a lattice panel for his table top. That way no need to drill holes and there is more flexibility to add homes or move things around each year. Then he put his styrofoam on top of that and drill holes in that where necessary.

Tip: Keeping accent pieces like fences and lamp posts from falling over. I glue 1" round disc magnets (found on Amazon) to the bottom of the lamp post and drill a 7/8" hole (using a spade bit) about a 1/4" deep (so the magnet sits just below the foam surface) into the foam and glue a magnet in the hole. Just be sure to keep in mind the polarization of the magnets so they are opposite.

I always loved going to family and friends homes who had christmas village decor - I remember just sitting for hours looking at the intricate details and I could never talk my parents into starting one in our house (now I realize why - they're SOOO expensive, and a seemingly never ending holiday hobby, since once you start you just keep expanding each year) - but now that I'm adult and have my own money to frivolously throw into displays that will be seen for one week a year, I WANT to start building mine. Love that there are these videos now online for ideas - I know it will take me years to get to where I want, but thanks for the inspiration to get started

@andybracken92614 жыл бұрын
A good tip that I use is when I have multiple buildings in the same “area” I purchase the 50 count LED c7 type lights at the big box stores, and I light up multiple houses with a single plug and wire assembly. If I have unused lights on that string, I try to arrange them in an “accent” pattern buried under snow to help brighten up the scenery.
@MiriamsManner4 жыл бұрын
Great idea!! I never thought about using the extra bulbs underneath the snow to add more light. I will add your tip to the list. Thanks so much for sharing!! 😀
@lindac419 Жыл бұрын
Good idea but these sockets you are referring to do not come with clips like the Lemax or D56 light cords. Do you have any problem keeping the light inside the holes of the houses since they are not “clipped” in tightly?
@debiulmer36724 жыл бұрын
My best tip to share is on the smaller items like light poles I hot glue them to large heavy washers that I have spray painted to match the area I’m putting them in. This keeps them from tipping over.

When I first started villaging and making platforms, I couldn’t find many videos to help me with my process. Most of what I have learned has been through trial and error. 😂😂. As I started helping family and friends with their villages, I realized there must be others with the same questions I had and those around me had. That’s why I started my channel, I wanted to help others elevate their villages. Knowing that I am achieving that goal warms my heart and I am so thankful you took the time to tell me so this morning! 😄 Have a wonderful day!

You are so welcome Cathline!! Are your buildings vastly different from one another? You might not have to do two different villages. You could have different sections within the same village. For example, if you have a lot of cabins or woodsy buildings and then a lot of city buildings, just make a forest area and a city area. Divide the two spaces with a park for a transition.

Sorry for asking so many questions. I am getting nervous…. How do you reach the middle of your 8x8 village? Do you build the big platform and then just push the whole thing inside cuz it would be impossible to work in the middle of such a large table. Also thinking of doing an 8x8 village this year but it might just kill me, haha…
@MiriamsManner Жыл бұрын
🤣😂🤣. No worries in the questions, ask away. I decorated the two tables separately and gently moved it into place. I did place the figurines in the middle that would be out of reach and hot glued them in place (just a small dot or enough). Them, all of the other areas I could reach, I waiting to put the figurines and trees until I scooted the tables together.

Quick question. What color do you suggest to paint a base, brown or white. I do want a snowy village but want to shown cobblestone walkways. Thank you. And I would like to say that you are beautiful and gifted person. Sending hugs for helping all of us beginners.
@MiriamsManner3 жыл бұрын
Hello Linda, you are very welcome! If you are referring to your table base, I would paint it white. That way, it will be easier to blend where you lay your snow. Then you can add your roads on top of the white base. If you mean the base of the figurines, I would paint those the same color of the landscape where you would be placing them.

Hey Joe, Thank you so much! I purchased that piece at a store called Lina’s. It was on the showroom floor in another color but they offer a variety of fabrics so I changed it to the blue. I do love this couch. The seat sits high and the cushions are firm. It’s a pretty solid piece.

Miriam, I love your videos. So many fantastic ideas & Techniques. My question is, is there a reason you use 1.5" foam board versus 1"? Thanks for sharing.
@MiriamsManner3 жыл бұрын
Hello Paul, Thanks so much. I like using the1.5” to give me more height so I don’t have to stack as many boards. That is the only reason. You could do the same thing with the 1”

I recently came into two Christmas village sets from family members downsizing! Your videos are helping me so much to plan. Do you ever incorporate a manger scene into your village? My husband is from South America where almost every house has Christmas village that is "Bethlehem" with the manger scene incorporated somewhere in the town!
@MiriamsManner4 жыл бұрын
Hello Elizabeth!! That is awesome!! I don’t have any manger scenes in my village but I do put up a manger scene in my front yard for Christmas. My mother has a small nativity scene in her village that she just got this year. It’s super cute.

Hi Miriam I am thinking of doing a floating village this year. It will be a huge challenge for me since it is my first year putting up a large village. I plan to drop all the cords to the floor through the styrofoam and then connect them all to one surge protector. However, how do you cover the cord from the surge protector to the wall safely without people tripping over it when they walk around your display? Do you have a picture of what you did? I am afraid that people will trip over the light cord and accidentally knock over the village. Hubby is not happy with my plan. 😢
@MiriamsManner Жыл бұрын
Hey Linda, I used black tape to tape the cord down for it to stay in place. Then I bought a long thick runner and put it over the cord. The runner was so thick, you couldn’t even feel the cord as you were stepping over it. I also made sure to run the cords to the back of the table. I hope this will make your hubby happy. 😂🤣

Hi Miriam, Great video! Does the foam dase you used help reduce track noise? What is the main reason for using it. Thank you.
@MiriamsManner3 жыл бұрын
Hello Cory, Thank you so much! I actually have never ran my train without a board under it so I couldn’t honestly tell you if it reduces the noise. The reason I use the board is to help hide my cords as well as sticking my home made trees into the foam since I don’t have bases for them.

Hi, I love your videos, I keep thinking we've been friends for years! I also love your voice. I have a question, can you show us how to do a stair that is not in a corner of the platform? and also like a path or road that goes up a mountain? That would be very hopeful. I'm almost done with my ski platform, I used the techniques you showed, and is going very well. Thank you. Have a wonderful day.

Hello Mireya, thanks so much, that’s so sweet of you to say!! Yes, I can do a video showing how to do stairs in the middle of a base and how I do my walk paths. I am in the middle of shooting the footage my for village so once I am done with that video, I can work on this project. I will try to get to it as soon as I am able. Have a great day! 😄

Love your videos. They have helped me figure out how to build my village. But....how do you take the village apart, if you use a glue gun to help hold things down? Does it ruin anything when taking the village apart? Thank you.
@MiriamsManner4 жыл бұрын
Hello Jess, thank you so much. I’m glad the videos have helped. No, the hot glue doesn’t hurt the pieces at all. I just use a small drop on my light post. When I am ready to take it down, I remove the accessory from the base and it comes up. Then, I peel the bead of hot glue off. If I am hot glueing onto styrofoam, sometimes a little of the styrofoam is stuck to the bottom of the accessory but it still doesn’t hurt the piece, I just take a blade to it and carefully scrape it off. It’s always as good as new when I take it down. Welcome! 😃

Are the snow flurries safe for pets? I’m just curious if I should even bother if I have dogs. Does anyone know of any that are definitely pet safe
@MiriamsManner Жыл бұрын
Hello, I’m not sure about that. I’ve never looked into it because I don’t have pets. I can tell you if you spray your snow flurries with hair spray or scenic cement, it won’t fly off the table. It stays in place really well when properly sprayed. That way it won’t be in the floor we’re your dogs are. I hope that helps. 😁
