Amazing tutorial! I've watched many tutorials and this was one of the easiest to follow

I wanted to do arcs for a long time too but don't know the math for it, I think one of the Blender conference talks titled "We can do that in Geometry Nodes" on youtube talks about using accumulate field node to know the trajectory of an object/particle before the simulation/looping nodes have been introduced. Still, it's great to have gravity/velocity in geometry nodes from simulation nodes without needing such complex math/trigonometry to build a node setup for it

is this boolean attribute loop broken in the 3.6 simulation nodes branch? It doesn't seem to work anymore for some reason....

Watch - and follow (!) - tutorials that show fundamentals (instead of fancy effects) and explain WHY (not only how). I try to create such tutorials 😬

I did this exact same thing the other day. To trim the lines at a certain length I had a little trouble because I couldnt figure out how to get a timestamp on each point at first, because named attribute would name them all the same thing. It has no selection distinction. So what I ended up doing is setting the ID of each vertex using the "top" selection from the extrude and setting each ID using the current frame number. Then at the start of the loop I delete based on current frame number, minus whatever length I want the line to be

Why do some of them look like they go up after the negative set position ?

Is there a way yet that the simulation nodes can be used for fluid sims ( water, fire, smoke)
@chrisprenn
@chrisprenn Жыл бұрын
I have seen some fake fire/smoke (=instanced image planes on particles) but far from real voxel based sims...
@KevRyanCG
@KevRyanCG Жыл бұрын
I'm sure some mad scientist will build it! Hopefully Blender will have a whole fluid solver node with a bunch of options on it to get going in a few months.

It always amazes me how the Blender devs manage to come up with the absolute minimum bit of functionality you need to add a huge amount of power.
@woodenfigurines
@woodenfigurines Жыл бұрын
Agreed, but it's waay too complicated compared to the old one. I hope they will make this user-friendlier. The whole attribute storage thing is extremely counterintuitive and hard to understand for me. And I'm not dumb and don't think I'm alone with this. :D
@KevRyanCG

You can do this with a trail node on a moving point in Houdini. Blender needs to tidy this stuff up.
@darrennew8211

@@KevRyanCG Right. Exactly my point: you can do 3000 things with a simulation node that you can't do with 2000 specialized nodes.
@KevRyanCG

@Darren New trust me, when time is of the essence you'll wish it didn't take all of these steps and building everything from scratch eachtime. But, what I will say is the framework is absolutely there, and even if they do create some preset nodes with a specific function to speed things along, they'll most likely be made up from already existing nodes put together, which is exactly how most of Houdini's nodes and solvers work. If you keep double clicking on them you hit a bedrock of nodes akin to these, or nodes filled with python snippets. It's great seeing Blender taking these first steps, but they are a bit wobbly at the moment

@@KevRyanCG Well, sure. It's a first release. Blender also has node groups, so putting together a package of simulation nodes for "non-colliding particles" or "fancy hair" or anything like that will be possible, just like right now you can go out and buy add-ons for all kinds of materials. Amateurs will build from scratch once, and professionals will purchase pre-built.

How can someone classify Geometry node? Is it Art skills? Is it Programming skills? I wonder how to know this puzzle 🧩 nodes and their applications. I'm amazed by what is coming out, but I'm getting more and more lost. Thanks for this tutorial
