It’s his job to overcome typecasting. Will Smith was the Fresh Prince. But he took whatever role he could, legend of baggervance, six degrees, etc to show his range until he landed Independence Day and bad boys. And then he became typecast as an action star and had to counteract that with Ali, Pursuit of Happiness, etc. It’s an actors job to work their image and take roles that play against type. Always being seen the same by everyone. It’s similar to how in the “Black” community we will always see Tisha Campbell as Gina from Martin. She could never be anyone else in our eyes. No the issue is likely due to the fact that many casting directors weren't into his work on the Jaime Foxx show or they may not have cared enough for the show to really pay attention to him. Here's where it goes another way. There r many fans who have only seen him as Braxton. Many have no clue of his other work. Reality is, they r not responsible 4 looking up his other work either. As an actor, u will develop a fan base based on the roles u play. U can either embrace it, or not. The guy has a long resume, but he was never the break out leading star. He had a leading role on a few things. I may b mistaken, but The Jamie Foxx Show is the only black show he starred n. Everything else had a predominantly white cast, a white audience, &/or he was guest star. It makes sense that many black people know him mainly as Braxton. I've seen him n countless shows, but I can't remember the names of any of the character's. If people didn't watch the other shows he played n, they wouldn't know his other work. Most people that clicked on this video probably immediately thought about Braxton. He's still working, so he wasn't type casted. He did well.

Stop it. The character IS a person. The actor merely brings him/her to life. Their job is to open the audience up to connecting w/ that person. It's a little absurd and out of bounds to carry the expectation of the audience to dissociate from an individual whose story they've bonded to emotionally & just happens to wear your face & likeness for the sake of YOUR range and depth as an artist....That's the casting director's job. While the watcher's goal is to buy-in.

My take is that without these iconic songs and characters, so many of these amazing artists would have faded in our hearts and minds. So many go through their career wishing and hoping for a chance to connect with their audience in the way that these artists have and will never reach that level of infinite recognition. The deep rooted connections we feel for these characters and songs are a testament of the divinely inspired awesomeness of the artistry. We believed the story. We were drawn into it. It was real for the end user and that is the ultimate goal, isn't it?
