It has been Russias arrogance, which has allowed Ukraine to win. Everyone doubted Ukraine, and they have consistently proven to the world that they will not be subjected to the will of a tyrant. I agree with you, Jonathan, the Kursk invasion was a stroke of genius: it makes the ordinary Russian realise that what they hear on Russian state tv/radio is not true; that Russia is not invincible; that war is as horrible for Russians as it is for Ukrainians and that Ukrainians are not the monsters that Russian media says they are (there are videos of Kursk residents amazed at the kindness shown by Ukrainian soldiers to the elderly and sick who have refused to be evacuated).This, I think, would push towards the deposal of Putin. Cherry on the cake, or maybe the cake itself, is that in the case of an eventual peace agreement, Ukraine can claim rights to the Donbas regions just as, presumably, Russia will claim rights to Kursk.

I realize there are big time political things going on but we have production problems as I learned things like gun powder is not as plentiful. They are silly analogies. I was the skinny kid who got beaten up in school playgrounds. I know that experience all too well, but a war with a superpower involves a lot of issues not found in school playgrounds. I shouldn't have to spell it out. And "the one arm tied behind their back" is also a poor analogy and a massively overused one. A better approach is to talk specifics. That way, you'll have to back up those specifics with a reasoned argument. And this comment is not aimed at you specifically, far too many people are falling back on lazy analogies and cliches.

Biden really annoys me when it comes how the war is being handled in Ukraine with all these unfounded restrictions on weapons. I am a couple of years younger than him and we lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis. The whole world was aware we were on the edge of nuclear war. JFK stood up to the USSR in spite of this risk and unbeknownst to us at the time we came with in a hair's breath of it happening. Some times you just have to take the bull by the horns and Biden forgot that lesson.

No, Ukraine allows Russian gas to pass through their territory to the rest of Europe. Ukraine has respected Russia's right to export to Europe, and European nations' right to import from Russia, throughout the war. One grey area is in the recent Krusk invasion, with the seizure of the Sudhya gas metering terminal. At least one of the massive metering pipelines was destroyed, but this does not yet impede the gas exports themselves. Ukraine is well aware of the consequences of anything they do to affect Europeans' wellbeing, in spite of the existential threat they face Russia.
