Super cool that he got a guitar from Nigel Tufnel himself, must've taken a lot for that guitar to leave his collection but still a hell of a nice axe as well

Normally I would mention that he essentially has a luxury sedan around his neck (guitar value), but in Julian's hands I know that the guitar is doing the very best of what it was made to do.

I think the reissues comes with recalculate frets/scale. The intonation is spot on with the stock wraparound bridge.

@RubbelisPro

that answers the question. I always wondered if it was a genuine '55 gold top or one of the reissues from the custom shop that he would play live and in youtube videos from time to time.

@J.C... Жыл бұрын
Wow. That 55 has a flatter carved top. You always hear that they're all different. Some with deep "bowls" around the "belly" and others that are much flatter like that one appears to be. Makes me not as conscious about the top on the guitar in my avatar not being as deep as my Goldtop. They're the same model in a different finish and they just happen to have different depths to their tops.

"look at it, just listen to that sustain (puts his ear against the guitar without playing it). No, Don't touch IT!" Seriously though; I've been playing (poorly most of the time) for 30 years. I've been repairing guitars and amps for almost 15. It's only been in the last couple years where I finally discovered just how great P90's really are, or at least can be in the right hands. Prior to that whenever a really nice guitar that had them came across my notice, particularly something that typically has humbuckers like a Les Paul or PRS, inevitably the first thought I always had was "damn, what a waste of a great guitar." It actually wasn't until I heard Chris Buck play one a few times that I really heard what they can do. Prior to that it was either someone running one through a heavily overdriven amp, or I plugged one in to check if whatever work I had done to one of them was working properly. It wasn't until I heard someone who really has some of the best feel and touch play it that I could appreciate just how insanely versatile they really are, and how good they can really sound.

I may sound crazy; but i put some fishman fluences on one of my LPs. I get PAF tones, and p90 tones when using the different voicings with the push pull pots. Vintage gear is great; but there are so many great pickups on the market right now.
@timwhite5562
@timwhite5562 Жыл бұрын
@@nickp440 funny you say that because Im going to get a guitar with P90's that I'm going to swap them out for noiseless. If it were normal single coils I probably wouldn't because there's a certain sound I kind and as good as they've gotten, I haven't heard any that do what I want. Since I've never used P90'S, I don't have that bias, and they produce an obnoxious amount of 60-cycle hum. I had intended on going with Mojotone Quiet Coils; I had them in a Strat I sold years ago and they were the best sounding ones I've heard, prior to that I would have said DiMarzio Area VVs. I worked on a guys Reverend Dirt bike royale that had them in it (mojo's), a 50s in the neck and a hot in the bridge. In a million years I'd never even consider active pickups, but I worked on a PRS that had Fluence classics HBs, and was REALLY impressed. The PAF sound was a bit Treble heavy, but nothing a properly voiced tone control couldn't roll off well. The vintage clear sounded great, and single coil certainly sounded closer to a single coil than any traditional split humbucker would, maybe one of the Fralin Unbucker or Sunbucker, but there you're trading off the humbucker sound. I didn't even know they had P90 Fluence until a friend of mine was talking about the Greg Koch set. That surprised me because he was always a "vintage only" guy to the point of occasionally getting into douchebag territory with all of it. I haven't tried em yet but I trust his opinion, even with the douchebaggery. I'll likely go with them.
