I sorely miss this man I never met more than most members of my family, I have found more solace, emphatic comfort, knowledge and truth in Hitchens than in all the stupid Churches & religious apologists that crossed my path, my hat off to one of the greatest polymaths in history, Christopher Hitchens, love him.

This is what God says about fools like Christopher Hitchens. Sadly... he now knows his efforts to deny the existence of the Creator were immensely foolish... but that is far too late to help him now! Psalms 14 1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt... And this is why... Psalms 19 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. note 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. The whole CREATION bares testimony to the wisdom and majesty of the Creator. And pretending, "There was no God. And no God created something. And something evolved into everything" (which is the essence of atheistic evolution - based on blind faith) is a foolish and unscientific concept too. Check out the scientific law of Biogenesis. Life can only come from life

What would please Hitchens most were he able to view our activity after his passing would be to see more and more people standing up for the principles he defended and defended remarkably well. I don't know enough about the invasion of Iraq - or 'liberation' as some would have it - so I speak principally of his endeavours in speaking out against religion. Although there's a long way to go before we move beyond these infantile myths, isn't it wonderful that we have made so much progress?

Moving from one job in a catholic school to another post in a Christian one, I was disheartened to see how much religion is still encroaching on the culture of our schools in the UK. It should have no place in our education establishments. A strong moral framework for young people is absolutely achievable without religion but they have to try to inculcate people into the cult don't they. I would be more concerned were it not for the fact that I think most people are rational and incredulous.

It right there the explanation you claim is lacking. Some people wish to rather be slaves loved by a dictator than free from the shackles thereof. Some people like this proposition and others dislike it. Humanity as a whole doesn't need dictatorship but evidently some members do (or at least claim that they need it). You might say that in face of compulsory love (as described in the bible) the cynic has no answer to why people revere it as I would gladly admit.
@platano21415 жыл бұрын

Hitchens is very eloquent at going on about nothing. As he quite rightly points out, theism arose at a time when people were trying to explain the harmony in nature and the universe that they understood from their limited understanding at that time. Modern science has done nothing except deepen the appreciation of the harmony and the integrated nature of our reality, thus the theist position is strengthened not weakened by understanding of the laws of science and nature, because the more we learn about the universe the more overwhelming is the impression of order, process, programming, information processing, laws, and maths. It takes a mind to decode these things, and its not unreasonable to consider that it could require a mind to cause them. Belief in God is an entirely rational concept. As with most atheists, Hitchens can't separate God from religion, and he cherry picks the worst examples of religious behavior he can find to "support" his argument. He doesn't consider whether the behaviors he highlights are representative of religious people in general or even of the lives of the "guilty" individuals. People from all walks of life rape, murder and kill for all kinds of reasons. Religion may be used as an excuse in some contexts and that is inexcusable, however that does not characterize most religion, therefore religion can and does exist without that kind of behavior, something he conveniently forgets to mention. Most of this argument seems to be based on his own emotional desires. He doesn't want to believe there might be a God watching him, therefore he paints this as the absolute invasion of privacy imaginable. That's not a logical objection, that's purely emotion based. I've known so many religious people who lead good constructive and loving lives. I don't recognize in them the sort of picture Hitchens paints of religion, and I think most people if they are honest will agree. He's a very clever and eloquent man, but a poor argument eloquently made is still a poor argument. However if you want to believe his point of view, you'll lap it up uncritically. I recently read Richard Dawkins "The God Delusion", expecting to find the best atheist arguments that could be assembled. Quite honestly, if that is the best that atheism can offer, then my belief that God is a rational concept has only been strengthened. Maybe I'll read Hitchens "God is not great" next, and see what sort of arbitrary argumentative rules he invokes to "prove" his case. I need another good laugh.

What a bore, Hitchens is so dull to listen to, even when he is correct and making sense. His reason for being an atheist is ridiculous, he suggests that our lack of knowledge in antiquity led to people inventing God. That may be true but has nothing whatsoever to do with whether there is or is not said entity.
