The burden of proof is on the theist to prove their claim that there is a God, not for atheists to disprove it. Simple as that. If I make a claim that I have a magic invisible dragon in my bathroom, I should be expected to provide evidence for it..not for others to prove that I don't.

GamingByteTv: Yup, simple math. Would you buy a car for $125,000 over the internet from a perfect stranger because they claimed it was definitely worth the outlay, or would you want proof first? @Bardineer Жыл бұрын
The burden of proof is on anyone making any claim. In the rare occasion that the atheist _does_ claim that no deity exists (as is case with Aron Ra, for instance), yes, this also incurs a burden of proof.
@notlisztening9821 Жыл бұрын
@@BardineerI actually haven't heard Aron give sufficient arguments to convince me of his position. I think there is always some sort of valid counter-apologetic, so that you at least can't claim god to be an impossibility. Maybe some versions of god are logically inconsistent, but then again god is "outside of logic" anyway, so how would you make any kind of evaluation about it? @notlisztening9821 Matt states that he doesn’t _know_ that no deity of any kind exists, but he does _believe_ that none exists. That doesn't incur a burden of proof. However, Matt also _asserts_ that he does not have faith--that his beliefs are reasonable expectations based on evidence. The problem is by asserting that all of his beliefs are reasonable expectations based on evidence, the belief in the nonexistence of any deity is included in this; and for that particular belief to have an evidentiary basis would require the evaluation of evidence from beyond the _observable_ universe, which no one has or even _can_ have.

The world needs to embrace the loving words of Jesus for its healing! The teaching of Darwinian Evolutionary Religion has given license to lawlessness, like there is no one to answer to for moronic behaviour. It has given birth to countless criminal acts of drug dealing, theft, murder, fornication, adultery, contract killing etc. It has promoted suicide particularly among young people. Darwinian Evolutionary Religion promotes fear and distrust greed and selfishness among people. It promotes wars; this religion is a dangerous damnable heresy and has done more damage than any other religious belief in history. It will be responsible for Armageddon the last great world war which will warrant the return of our Lord Jesus Christ in order to stop man destroying himself through selfishness and greed. Hitler justified his war based upon the evolutionary concept “Survival of the Fittest” but he went down with all on board! China, Russia and North Korea live by the same destructive rules. There have been a number of atrocities committed since Darwin’s book came out in 1859. This belief system has shed much blood. The wicked live by faith in evolution, we shall see who is right! Richard Dawkins mocks the Ten Commandments and those who believe in them. David Attenborough also mocks God by his continual Mantras of millions of years in his nature programmes. Richard Dawkins, David Attenborough and others, plus the media who promote the belief in Darwinian Evolutionary Religion have blood on their hands, because what you believe determines how you behave! Jesus was clear: Men shall give an answer for every idle word spoken. This also includes those in church denominations who do not teach the purity of the gospel account. Jesus did not lie to us, but told us the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The gospel of Jesus Christ gives belly ache to those who love what God calls sin. There is always a place of repentance at the foot of the cross, where Father God manifested his love for the world, by taking his only begotten Son to Calvary to be crucified for the sins of the world in order to bring us back to God, thus he created an open door; back to Father’s heart, a place of acceptance. The just shall live by faith! Salvation has been designed by God upon the lines of faith! Oh the wisdom of God! Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people!

@@raysonraypay5885 Well said!! It nothing more than naive realism, hubris and the (fallacy of misplaced concreteness). Mainstream physicalism assumes that we can reduce all mental contents to material arrangements. Idealism entails that mind is nature’s fundamental ontological ground, everything else being reducible to, or grounded in mind. Ironically mainstream physicalism posits that nature’s fundamental ontological ground is the theoretical abstraction of mind known as “matter” everything being reducible to, or grounded in, matter. Materialists and militant atheists presuppose that the abstraction known as “matter” contains an intelligibility and completeness that it can not logically and possibly possess as “matter” is clearly a theoretical abstraction of the qualitative subjective experience of reality and existence, that is mind and consciousness. Equally, the fact is that you can’t prove sense data using sense data. You can’t prove empiricism using empiricism as logic, empiricism, “truth” and values such as morals and ethics are metaphysical presuppositions that is transcendental categories that can not be justified or grounded in the materialistic paradigm as materialism/atheism excludes metaphysical realities. You can’t empirically prove that the external world is providing an accurate picture of reality and existence. Hence the famous essay by W Quine (The Two Dogmas of Empiricism). However, Cartesian doubt demonstrates that whilst we can doubt the external world we still have good reason to believe that mind and consciousness is reliable and exists and is primary because of the mere act of doubting. Obviously abstractions help us in a pragmatic sense but they can also provide us with a very effective epistemological noose hence this disturbing quote from the prominent public intellectual and atheist Nietzsche. “The extinction of many types of people is just as desirable as any form of reproduction” and that “the tendency must be towards the rendering extinct of the wretched, the deformed, the degenerate”. This quote from Nietzsche and his misplaced belief in the concreteness of the materialistic paradigm speaks for itself as it could come from any work on racial cleansing. The danger is that materialists/atheists mistake “matter” for concrete reality but this is clearly a (fallacy of misplaced concreteness). According to Plato complete knowledge of this world is impossible as it is always changing and never stable unlike the eternal forms. This is why Christians set their standard of truth in something that is both immanent and also transcends this world. The fact is that reality and existence is process and becoming including being not just substance. Hence metaphysical presuppositions such as identity over time etc So the fact is that skeptics need to be more sceptical about their scepticism because what we know is our best approximation of “truth”. Even if we came to what we assume is a “true” conclusion regarding the materialistic paradigm it might change as science can’t prove anything as it is provisional and can only infer. There’s nothing wrong with saying that we just “don’t know” that reality and existence is nothing more than “matter” as this is the pragmatic, scientific and least costly epistemically. So materialists/atheists need to be mindful and less confident that their political, philosophical and theological apponents are irrational and don’t contain a large degree of truth and moral insight. You may be looking at a rose as nothing more than a pile of atoms and those who experience reality as a process of becoming and being experience a rose as a unbelievably beautiful, fragrant symbol of life, hope and love. “Matter” outside mind is not an empirical observation but rather an explanatory model so the epistemic symmetry between the two is broken. Consequently, matter and mind cannot reside in the same level of abstraction. The conclusion becomes clear that attempting to explain mind in terms of “matter” (abstractions) is epistemically more costly than attempting to explain matter in terms of mind. The fact is that the qualities of existence and experience that is mind and consciousness are not only epistemically and ontologically primary but are the same. So the belief in the fundamental nature of mind and consciousness/theism is just a default position a (non belief) in materialism/atheism until materialists/atheists can demonstrate that “matter” is all there is to reality and existence not mind and consciousness. First principles such as mind and consciousness clearly co exist within experience and existence and thus have the greatest explanatory power and are the most parsimonious hypothesis. “Matter” is clearly a theoretical abstraction of mind not vice versa. Because these issues demonstrate the primacy of perceptual constructs over explanatory abstractions (matter) on both epistemic and ontic levels. The fact is that “you cannot go on ‘explaining away’ forever: you will find that you have explained explanation itself away. You cannot go on ‘seeing through’ things forever. The whole point of seeing through something is to see something through it. It is good that the window should be transparent, because the street or garden beyond it is opaque. How if you saw through the garden too? It is no use trying to ‘see through’ first principles. If you see through everything then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To ‘see through’ all things is the same as not to see.” (C.S.Lewis) ❤️

"It seems to me that the idea of a personal god is an anthropological concept which I cannot take seriously. I also cannot imagine some will or goal outside the human sphere.... Science has been charged with undermining morality, but the charge is unjust. A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. You have been sadly taken in. No scientist was present to see chemicals come together and for living cells 5, 10, 50 billion years ago. It is all religious propaganda. The Masses are always taken in by Barabbas the thief and murderer. Dinosaurs Contemporary with Humans Dr Don Patton PhD in geology studied at Indiana State University, Cambridge U.K and finally finished at Queensland University Australia, after 15 years of work, he earned an accreditation which was withdrawn by Professor Wilson who was appointed Head of Department of Geology and Mineralogy at the Queensland University between 1960 to 1986; because they did not like giving degrees to Creationists. He had to work another two years before he finally got his accreditation for his PhD. He did excavations at Glen Rose Texas at the Paluxy River Bed, which yielded dinosaur footprints and human footprints in the same rock strata being Cretaceous lime stone that is supposed to be 140 million years old! Dinosaur bones can be eroded and redeposited, they can also be intrinsically buried and here is the difference, you cannot do that with dinosaur and human tracks that have formed from sedentary mud and have turned into hard rock. The Paluxy River bed contains dinosaur footprints that you can walk in alongside human footprints, destroying the myth that dinosaurs lived millions of years before man, they were contemporary. When sediment was washed out of the human footprints, you could see clearly 5 toes and relative heel prints in pristine condition. Human footprints, seen inside dinosaur tracks; which is conclusive evidence. There were 135 dinosaur tracks but 14 human tracks in a right to left direction, going from right to left through the dinosaur tracks, some beside and within, clear evidence for those of a sound mind. Evolutionists enjoy the term erosion, but it does not fit with the actual observed evidence. These have not been carved as they were excavated from under overbearing rocks. You cannot have erosion as an answer to pristine patterns of human footprints. These are desperate remarks from evolutionists who love to grasp at straw men. They were not carved, it is not logical; how do you get underneath overbearing rocks? The layers are about 6 feet of alternating clay and lime stone, and so the reasoning by evolutionists does not make any sense. Dr Don Patton presented his findings to the Tennessee State University to a group of senior geologists; he showed the tracks and explained the process of coming to his conclusion: dinosaurs and humans were contemporary. There were about 50 Grad Students of geology present, they could not argue with his findings, so they looked back to the Head of the Department for a response. His rely was ridiculous to say the least. He said, we do not know whether back then, that there were dinosaurs with human feet. Then Dr Patton replied and we do not know whether humans had dinosaur feet and he went on to say, if they were human tracks would they look any different than todays? The Head of the Department didn’t like that answer, so he just walked away. The Curator of the Dallas Museum of Natural History came down and so the evidence and went away upset, then he came again and went away upset. He came back the third time, having been thinking about the problem and said to Dr Patton, I know what these are, even though they look like human tracks, they really are not human tracks, they were made by aliens! He was as serious as he could be. They simply do not want to accept what is clear pristine evidence. Dr Patton replied, if they are aliens and more intelligent than us; being from a distant galaxy what are they doing walking about barefoot? He didn’t like that answer so he walked away. Dr Don Patton has presented his evidence to about 100 universities in America with no positive outcome in recognition of the facts. The Darwinian box is so hardly jammed upon their heads they cannot get it off and see sense. I have no respect for evolutionists who deliberately suppress, ignore and disregard any evidence against evolution.

@@pbfoley This makes sense Darwinian Evolutionary Religion is a back door to immoral behaviour. What you believe determines how you behave! Kind Regards Evolutionists do not have an honest bone in their bodies Dr Cabrera was sacked Dr Javier Cabrera was relieved of his position as Director of Cultural Affairs for ICA because he was preparing a case for official authorization to have systematic excavations in the archaeological zone of Ocaucaje. He was prepared to dig up some dirt to exonerate the ICA Stones by finding more of these genuine stones in the tombs. Dr. Cabrera was succeeded by the Director of the Museum in ICA when the authorities became aware of his intentions, he immediately under instructions shut down this proposal and enterprise. This newly appointed Director also refused to allow the institutions collection of engraved stones of dinosaurs and surgical operations to be put on public display. The powers that be knew that the ICA Stones were genuine artifacts that called Darwinian Evolutionary Religion into question. “The SAS had moved in.” Dr. Javier Cabrera forfeited his career in search of the truth; for what many wanted to believe were bogus andesite river rocks. These stones are valuable treasure left by the indigenous people for future generations, because many have also been found buried in farmer’s fields outside tombs. If allowed to be put on public display they would shake the foundations of evolutionary dogma and destroy the assumptions, presumptions and presuppositions of the invented evolutionary power of time invented by Charles Lyell a Scottish lawyer in 1830. There is no escaping the fact that antique pottery displaying dinosaurs as part of their molding process stood out in prominence on the surfaces of these artifacts, plus textiles with dinosaurs embroidered on them are genuine and that dinosaurs were indeed contemporary with the indigenous Indians of Peru. The back rooms of museums are used to store away anything that causes people to question evolution, out of sight, out of mind, out of harm’s way, away from public scrutiny and the media press. These are classed as enigmas. “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored by the evolutionary community around the world.” Dr. Cabrera had many stones with stegosauruses carved on them, some showing leaves within their mouths. On the stones was also depicted Indian or Mayan looking men with pointed noses. The warriors were attaching the stegosaurus, one of the warriors would be on the back of the stegosaurus with an axe over the head of the dinosaur and another warrior standing on the tail of the stegosaurus and attaching the pelvic ganglia. I can understand this because the majority of dinosaurs were discovered to be vegetarian in 2010 by examining fossilized dung from a number of dinosaurs including T.REX. If the indigenous Indians had planted crops you would not want dinosaurs making short work of them, so you would attach them. Communism is alive and well in America!

Sure if you read the bible, it's a mess with a seeming malevolent god. If a person wants to accept that there was a supreme being there is nothing in the cosmological argument to indicate that the being would have any of the properties of humans. Scientists and mathematicians have no evidence to show whether the universe began from something or from nothing. God could fall under the Big Bang Theory but then God doesn't in any way need to be moral or like us or even good or could be good or evil in combination. There are hundreds of questionable moralities and dogmas found in the Old and even New Testaments. Upholding slavery or condemning billions of moral people to eternal damnation seems like a horrible thing to do. We are not even close to proving there is any kind of god much less a Christian god and evidence that points to there being a god unless you just mean "the original creator or Big Bang creator". What is good about faith based on no scientific or good evidence? "I just believe in one less god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all other gods you'll begin to understand why I dismiss yours"

Personal spiritually intimacy with Jesus is what matters, keeping your eyes off others and keeping them on him who loved you unconditionally! The Miracle of the Atom The Laws of physics that exist are due to the activity within the atom, which is finely tuned in order for us to exist and as we know atoms are required for life. The main energy level occupied by an electron during orbit is dictated by its fixed distance from the nucleus of the atom. This is relative to electron and proton attraction. There are constants within the atom, like the size of the electric charge of the electron and the ratio of the masses of the protons relative to each other. All orbitals that have the same value “N” being the main energy level relates to the quantum number and are said to share the same shell level. Protons are subatomic particles which are charged in relation to the nucleus, electrons are attracted towards them because they have opposite electrical charges; this fine tuning keeps them in orbit around the nucleus making the development of life possible as we know it. The atom is a miracle of design not an accident waiting to happen. Everything is made up of atoms which are finely tuned for the building blocks of life and also they create the environment necessary for the existence of life. The conditions on our own earth in particular are finely tuned being described as biophilic in which life as we know it can flourish. If any of the fundamental constants like the speed of light or the strength of gravity were to change just a little, then life as we know it would cease to exist. This realization has led some physicists to argue that our universe is intelligently designed, made especially for us, no accident waiting to happen. We live in a finely tuned universe perfectly primed in order to support life. There is irreducible complexity within the atom never mine the cell as atoms make up cells and are responsible for life as we know it. Atoms are unique and their atomic number dictates what substance or chemical property they have. Carbon for instance has an atomic number of 6 positively charged protons in the nucleus. Atoms are essential building blocks of life, for example the body contains fat which is made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Carbon atoms because of their unique make-up also bond strongly to other elements such as hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen because they have branches or rings of various sizes that contain thousands of atoms, carbon is quite accommodating with other substances. These have unique atomic numbers that make life possible. Atoms suffer from irreducible complexity because all the electrons, protons and neutrons must be present at the same time in a particular number and order, for the atom to function as a designated substance. This knowledge dispenses with the idea of mutations and natural selection relating to chemical interactions. Life on the earth is based on carbon chemistry. Carbon is used in organic matter such as our bodies for instance in order to maintain life. They silently carry out important chemical reactions within our bodies and they are essential to life on the earth. Carbon atoms make up the sun, stars, comets and the atmosphere of most planets. Carbon is found in coal, oil, diamonds and natural gas deposits. The atom is clearly designed and many physicists now recognise this, but they won’t use the word God or Creator, they would sooner believe aliens were responsible, but the question is then begged who made the aliens? The term atom really means invisible unit or uncuttable, and for a long time it was thought that the atom could not be split, but when they did, it produced the atomic bomb. An infinite intelligence made the various atoms which are so small and are measured as being one tenth of a billionth of a metre across. They are so small that they cannot be seen under a powerful microscope. We are led to believe that all our sophisticated atoms are derived from an invented primordial complex soup of chemicals which then produced the first living cells. Remember each atom is unique due to its composition and arrangement of subatomic particles relative to the number of protons in the nucleus. This is no accident waiting to happen! A primordial soup is purely fictitious and based on fantasy and imagination because men do not want to retain God in their knowledge. Jesus did not lie to us concerning him being the Son of God and the Saviour of the world. He said that men shall give an account for every idle word spoken, except they repent of their sins!

What created God? What created energy? Apparently it is possible to exist without the need to be created. A little thought and you could have figured this out for yourself. Big Bang contained energy from which arose love, compassion, virtue, art, music, creativity, consciousness - all of which sounds like the hand of God to me. Hmmm. Lastly, consciousness has never been proven to originate within the brain. Therefore it is just as likely to originate outside the brain as within it making atheism, like Christianity faith based, and these are the ones you mock? BTW, I am not Christian. I believe that yes, if someone is going to base their opinions solely on evidence and facts (as atheists claim to do, relying on science as their only means of defining the world around them), then the burden of proof lies on them. Otherwise they have no means to support their claim and if it's unfounded their standpoint is hypocritical to begin with. Religious people have the privilege of not needing a proof, since faith by definition is based on assumptions, not knowledge. Having evidence of God's existence would defeat the purpose of supposed "test" our life is.

Patrick Collins That's right, religious Kooks are delusional, and unable to focus on Reality, which has no room for silly, magically-generated, whimsical man-made Dogmas that self-righteously bow down to fake "gods" and other imaginary characters. Take it from our acquaintance Professor Stephen Hawking, who said, "The Scientific account is complete, theology is unnecessary." The idea of "gods" is so childish and ignorant, nobody with a lick of sense pays the silly man-made fables any mind. religions should be relegated to the fiction section of libraries, and all children should be taught from their very first learning experiences, that all "gods" are fake, man-made and a complete and utter waste of time. The self-righteousness of the common religious Kook is unrivaled by even the craziest of mental asylum patients. In USA, Our religious Kooks are so disturbed, self-righteous and hypocritical, they allege they are "pro-life," yet each and every one of them is ardently in favor of Guns, Wars and The Death Penalty. They are quite insane, and programmed to believe their hypocrisy is normal. Being religious is a mental disorder, and dangerous to Our whole planet, and all its inhabitants. Be Well!

Maybe you read in a previous thread - I am not sure if I even mentioned it though, but I had the pleasure of spending a little time with Stephen Hawking as an undergraduate when he went to lunch every Friday at the Graduate Center in Cambridge. I used to sneak in as the food there was really good compared to standard college fare. He had the same voice mechanism and really just looked like a younger version of himself now - he has aged rather well. I saw him a few years ago ambling down Kings Parade.....anyway you mentioned him as an acquaintance and so I wondered if you had a connection there....? I would not agree that being religious is a mental disorder.....there are millions of kind, caring individuals who are sane, but religious. They are just brain washed and never think the whole thing through. Personally I think in the US they should teach atheism in schools and let the kids make up their own minds. It is frightening to think that in some schools (perhaps even actual states...?) they don't teach evolution..... It is truly astonishing that such ignorance can arise and be tolerated in the modern western world, but then America is a very odd place. I should know, I have spend several years of my life there. Wonderful country though....and for the most part, good positive friendly folks....it is just the poison of religion that lets it down IMHO....

I just disagree that many things we take for granted as distinct good and bad are not self evident and were instead taught to us at a very young age and that this code of morality (as opposed to ethics) has developed over a very long time and is relative to history, culture and context. I think Hitchkins assertion that at least the important parts of ethics are self evident is just wrong and can be proven wrong through anthropology. I am not christian, I was not even raised christian, both my parents are very secular but the reality is that enlightenment values developed OUT OF christianity, not opposed to it...thus this model of western atheism that was so popular 10 years ago and less now, of a "pure" mind liberated from religion into a state of objectivism... is fantasy. Its obviously very politically incorrect to say that certain immoral actions are not self evidently immoral but that is just the case, since all morality is learned.

@@2Uahojthere is only one assertion here. That some kind of god exist. The burden of proof lies on THAT. Hitchens position was VERY clear. He stated that he cannot be certain, but that the evidence for a god is insufficient as it doesn’t disprove other hypotheses.
@starfishsystems11 ай бұрын
@@joemiller7082 Exactly. And this becomes especially clear if we imagine the range of possible discussions that would ensue if the god definition were removed. Atheism is a response to the claim that a god exists. Without a definition, the claim is either absent or meaningless, and the position of atheism has no potential to be activated as a specific response. But note that it is still a valid position. I mean, an atheist could continue to say "I'm not convinced that a god exists" and this would be logically coherent even if what is meant by god has never been defined. No one should be convinced that an undefined ANYTHING exists. Either way, the position of not being convinced makes no existential claims, has no definitions, and carries no burden of proof. The only point at which a burden of proof emerges is either when a god is claimed to exist, or when a claim is made that a god does not exist. And both of these claims must first introduce some definition for what is meant by a "god." That task usually falls to the theist, who often produces something unworkable or silly, but an atheist who makes a positive claim that "there is no god" had better be prepared to define what "god" means.
