Probably one of my favourite clips of Christopher. if you look at the faces of those in the audience that chose not to clap they looked very very uncomfortable......perhaps with good reason.

They’re just letting it gloss over them and pretending it’s not really being said. They know a higher power so no matter what reasonable argument is presented to them it doesn’t matter. It’s laughable and yet so very sad. It’s the ultimate “I’m alright Jack” attitude: they KNOW they are going to heaven and they KNOW that the people who don’t align with their beliefs are going to hell and the reality is they don’t care, because in their mind they will be alright.

​@@HibiscusHonee he said a lot, i'd say check out the book bearing false witness by rodney stark the list of chapters is basically a list of falsehoods hitchens said. basically he just has a very surface level and stereotypical understanding of most things. i stopped and made this comment because it's hilarious that he thought the church was pro-nazi. that's literally just old soviet propaganda lol the pope was a great anti-nazi, even the chief rabbi of rome converted to catholicism after the war. the catholic church resisted the nazis all over europe, hitchens make it sound like they welcomed nazism as a triumph of their values. but yes he really just misrepresented everything he mentioned some by a little bit some by a lot. i don't think he was being malicious, I think hitchens is poorly informed. but this video is a monologue so it's a dramatic speech like in a movie with all this thundering condemnation, i like that and it's why it's so entertaining. but hitch had a surface level understanding of all these things and while he mentioned a lot of interesting issues, you won't get an accurate impression of any of them from him. pick out any issue he mentioned from aids in africa to the crusades, go research that subject and you'll see it's a lot more complicated than the big bad catholics being evil proto-nazis for 2,000 years. the church has definitely been for a force for good in the world.
