Well, that's a relief. Christopher Nolan's bank account is foremost in my mind!

The more money he has, the more risks he can take with his films!

What Tenet is doing is both very risky and brave. If it fails, due to it's enormous budget it will probably mean the downfall of theathers and huge blockbuster movies with budgets over 200 million dollars. I hope to my dear life that this won't happen, and that Tenet will get its money back in the box-office. Tenet is really the deciding movie for the future of cinema. It cannot be the next Blade Runner 2049 in the box office.

everyone's gonna watch it if they can, it's christopher nolan, I don't think people care that much about the pandemic anymore, people have gotten used to it, the problem is if theaters stay shut, let's pray that doesn't happen

Knurdyob I might be speculating, but what gives the Big Blockbuster movies so much money is that general audience get attracted to the movie and want to see it. Ofcourse movie lovers will see a new Christopher Nolan movie, however its the general audience that dont go to the cinema that often (like once or twice a year) its dose people who contribute most to the Box Office success. And due to the pandemic I feel less ”general” audience will see the movie, older people and such

@@danieltuben If Tenet is the only movie playing by then, a lot of people will probably go since the theatres have been shut down for months and want to see something at the theatres in the summer. This could actually potentially make the film even more than it would have, but it could go either way. Considering people are starting to casually go to restaurants, maybe theyd be willing to go to he theatre in over a month from now.

I wander if Unreal Engine 5 will help Hollywood to produce top quality films, but with much smaller budgets. The potential is there, and the technology was used to make The Mandolorian.

Tenet isn't the deciding movie in anything. There have been a million box office flops in the past and there will be more in the future. If Tenet fails, all it will mean is that Christopher Nolan's style has grown out of fashion, which happens to almost any filmmaker.

I wonder how these deals work in real life. Because there were similar deals in the past - Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2 for example. But I can't imagine the studio giving as much as 20 percent of the gross to the director. Suppose Tenet makes 1 billion at the box office (which it won't and the studio must know that). Roughly 55 percent of that goes to the theaters, distributors, etc. So we're at 450 million for the studio and we still have to deduct the 200 million production budget and at least another 100 million for marketing. Now if Nolan is supposed to get 20 percent of the actual gross (as in whatever the customers pay for the tickets prior to any deductions) from one billion dollars, that would be 200 million. Not a chance Nolan gets that, the studio would end in red numbers. I'm sure he has a sweet deal, but these kind of numbers are mainly for PR IMO, the reality must be something different.

That's a great logical assessment of it.
