Legitimate question-how do you rationalize the comment about not following trends to grow your following but specifically recommending musicians make music that can fit into things like popular memes and trending topics?

This is a great question. Difficult to dive deep in a 17 min video. But I would say there's a difference in following flash in the pan social media trends, vs trending topics. For example - using trending sounds and doing your own version of something that's popular for a week isn't a viable strategy. As a musician or anything else when it comes to growing organically on social. HOWEVER... If you (as a musician or anything else) are able to tap into trends and themes that are trending socially, politically, economically, culturally etc. you have the ability to tap into something very powerful. Oliver Anthony's song, "Rich Men North of Richmond" is a good example of this. His song tapped into a trending theme within the economy and culture of the United States. But he wasn't doing a stupid internet trend. There's another song that's a slight re-write of Lorde's "Team" that was repurposed based on what's happening in the Mid-East, which tapped into something that is in the public consciousness. So when I talk about musicians using trending topics - or memes. That's what I mean. It's a deeper use of trends than the superficial "trending sound" that we think of as "trends".

I have been on tiktok posting regularly every day 5 days a week for around 4 months now and I have grown from 1k to 5k followers. I have ticked all of the boxes you have stated...
