BASICS OF THE BIBLE NOTES ON 2 TIMOTHY
-One Word Description: "Mentoring"
-Big Idea: Live a holy life in a fallen world and teach others to live a holy life.
-Key Verse: 2 Tim 2:2
-Author: Paul (1:1), a preacher and apostle (1:11) who was in prison (1:8, 12, 16-17, 2:9).
-Date: Late in Paul's life when he was near death (4:6-8). This was about the mid AD 60s (AD 63-67).
-Audience: Timothy (1:2, 3; 2:1; 3:1, 10; 4:9) who was a dear son to Paul and had a genuine faith (1:5).
-Themes:
1. Team ministry. Paul always did ministry with other men and women. In this letter he names twenty-one different people.
2. Suffering. Paul shares about the suffering that he has experienced (1:12, 16; 2:9-10; 3:11). He also tells Timothy and other Christians that they should be ready to suffer (1:8; 2:3; 3:12).
3. Christ's return. Paul refers to "Christ's return" (1:18; 4:8), "the last days" (3:1-5), and "when [Christ] comes (4:1, 3-4).

-Applications
1. Hold on to sound doctrine and teaching. There is a natural "drift" that can occur in lives and churches if they don't stay committed to God's Word. Because of that Christians need to regularly study God's Word.
2. Return from ungodly behavior. As a young man you can get pulled into immorality, lust, and evil. When these struggles arise you need to run from them.
