This is the spiritual successor to Ogre Battle I've wanted for decades and I loved the demo. Only FFVII rebirth is first in line for me. After that it's this.

Growing up, Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen and Ogre Battle 64 were two of my all time favorite games still today. Love seeing a modern take on those games here! Now if we can just get this on PC

Plus PC games still don't sell a ton in Japan. Look how long it took Atlus to start paying more attention to PC for SMT/Persona games

Final fantasy 7 rebirth by any chance soon? Even though ff7 remake is on this channel since I watched it. but spiderman 2 was also missed despite spiderman 1 being a thorough playthrough too. So I am guessing previous series doesnt guarantee a follow up

Looks a lot like one of my childhood favorites: Ogre Battle / Ogre Battle 64 untold hundreds of hours went into those games. Very similar setup with overworld/units/groups/esthetics. Def going to buy this just to support a company that is rebirthing one of my childhood loves

I think my top two series in the genre are Fire Emblem & Valkyria Chronicles.. But there have been phenomenal other titles too like what you mentioned, Jeanne DArc and also Stella Glow

If the story will be only half as good as Vanillaware’s last game, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim than it will be absolutely amazing 13 Sentinels has one of the best story in gaming Absolutely want to see a full Unicorn Overlord playthrough And i would love to see 13 Sentinels too, that game is a one in a million experience that i think you would enjoy

They really accomplished something with this game it seems. It is super easy to pick up and understand but still has a ton of depth and looks gorgeous. I hope the full game has enough variety and content to keep the momentum going because the demo alone is so much fun. Finally a really promising looking strategy game from start to finish. I wanted to love Triangle Strategy for example but the content felt quickly very shallow and the scope of the story was just ridiculous (it's just one tiny territory with somehow 4 armies at play? made 0 sense).

I have played the demo for four hours so far and enjoy most of what it has to offer. The one thing I really don't like is that the "battle stages" are timed. This makes the game feel rushed for me. I don't like timed battles in any game, so this isn't confined to "Unicorn Overlord", and I realize some players may like this feature. If that time limit was eliminated (or could be turned off in options), this would be a day one purchase for me. As is, I'm on the fence...

I think this game clicked for you precisely because other "gems" didn't. The story. I'm a huge fan of Tactics Ogre (as one might guess from the avatar). Been playing since the original on sfc, so that's close to 30 years. Absolutely love the latest remake, btw. It was always the story for me. The grim political shenanigans. That said, Triangle Strategy failed spectacularly to deliver what it promised. Story is ultra weak and irritating. I can write an essay, but I won't lol Unicorn Overlord though, it went back to the roots, so to speak. Good old classic high fantasy Tolkien style. Enemy is vile and evil, maidens are beautiful (in a way lol), men are brave and you got ancient evil to defeat. So there's no worry about story trying edgy stuff just to fall on its face later on. It's not Game of Thrones, and thus have the cozy feel to it. You know what to expect and can focus on fun mechanics. That's what I think.

I dunno.. I played a little of 13 Sentinels last year or whatever and I knew it was good but I kinda forgot about it for awhile.. Picked it up again a few days ago and it totally clicked! I’m now obsessed with SRPGs again.. Been flip flopping through my collection the last couple of days to see what game I’m rusty with and which I’m not.. Tactics Ogre I resumed a boss fight I thought I’d fail previously yet nailed it! Went back to FFT too and having better success with the PSX version.. Getting totally slaughtered with the PSP version.. Ah maybe I’ll just save it for last being it has a rep for being the most challenging.. In the meantime I’ll work on getting my hands on UO somehow even being broke at this particular time!!

I heard this game through Ratatoskrs most anticipated games of 2024 video, and wasnt even planning on playing it, I dont play strategy games and I dont typically play anime styled games too often, so i didnt think I would enjoy this game. However, this game is easily my GOTY, was some of the most fun ive had in a while, after finishing the tutorial I switched to Expert difficulty and 100%'d the entire game, and loved it from start to finish.

As much as I wanted to like this, I'm just not a fan of games where you "script" actions. I had the same problem with FF 12's gambit system. Maybe it's because I'm a sys admin, and I spend a lot of time scripting, so it feels like work. As you might expect, I'm pretty good at it; I just don't care to do it while gaming.

You should try out Brigandine: Legend of Runersia. Fits a similar vibe. Also, I suspect that you never got into these games simply because most of them have an anime aesthetic, and you've never seemed the type of person to vibe with that. It's a very surface level reasoning that you probably don't want to admit to yourself, lol.

Game looks like it has some interesting elements, and I *love* Tactics Ogre and some other similar titles. But I don't like the character design in these Vanillaware games - the enormous jiggling breasts and other embarrassing details. I would rather pass than support that. But I'd definitely watch your videos if you play it on the channel.

I'm a long time Fire Emblem fan and I feel embarrassed playing Unicorn Overlord. The amount of depth and flexibility that allows for creativity and player expression here is unparalleled and as much as I love Fire Emblem the gameplay there feels simplistic and almost one-dimensional in comparison

I always had a similar problem like you that games like Triangle etc. never sticked with me. I would play them for a couple hours and get not necessarily bored but uninterested. I never felt the urge of needing to finish work so I can play more. So when hearing you having a similar thing going on with these types of games but loving UO I was convinced. Let´s see how it goes

It sounds like they took t he Gambit's idea from Final Fantasy 12. I spent hours tuning those gambits so that as I run through an area my whole squad just automatically did everything the most efficient way possible without me having to tell them to do it. I bet I'd like this game.
