I have never seen Barry angry. In Spain, he was considered a national héroe...paartly because in early '70's, he had fought against Angel Nieto, Who admired him a lot

Love these videos so much more exciting than today's MotoGP ..not that it's bad but those days were on smaller tighter circuits making it more competitive and great to watch.

I remember this era of UK dominance, then by the early 1980's Spencer and Mamola turned up and destroyed the UK opposition. As far as I recall, this was ascribed to a change in tire technology favouring the tail-sliding late-in/drift-out technique of those raised on dirt racing.

My local circuit. Always great viewing whether it was coppice, redgate or craner curves. Went many times in those days, always remember the smell of Castrol 'R' as you got in the parking area and walked towards the entrance. Great days when racing was racing not like the drab stuff these days where the bikes are virtually identical and on control tyres.

Donington Park looked rather nice with all those trees around. Slight echoes still of the original pre-war parkland circuit. It's not really clear whether these riders were using knee sliders but they didn't seem to be hugely necessary for the lean angles involved. And now you need elbow sliders too.
@bretloyd80973 жыл бұрын
No knee sliders
@topcat47592 жыл бұрын
Back in those days there were no purpose made knee sliders, always remember Kenny Roberts used gaffer tape on the knees of his leathers. Not until the '80's were there knee sliders specially made by Dainese etc.

Man, that was a boring commentator back then, compared today , it’s exciting, and commentators are more motivated , and into the sport especially when it’s DIVISIOSO, ROSSI, OR MARC MARQUEZ!!!! Both racers and commentators were dull !!! BORING !!! When i look at this, it looks like the BENNY HILL SHOW !!!
@SteeeveO4 жыл бұрын
you obviously didn't see these races back in the day then. When many died as circuit safety was crap, no air bag suits, bikes could seize at any second, tyres & brakes were awful, & it was more about grit & bravery than Dorna's modern day circus show where Marquez always wins when he's fit. Benny Hill show would only happen at the end when Barry would be chasing girls in suspenders. Nowadays Marc goes home for his early night's sleep & Valentino to his boyfriend.

That's a hell of a quick bandit. An RG500 would blow it into the weeds, power to weight ratio far exceeds anything on the roads these days and handling wise you would not stand a chance of keeping up with one of these guys. Bandits are a great bike but not that great.

@@topcat4759 My 05 650i. Bandit, one very careful, cautious owner, who basically ran it in for 15,000 miles, and was 58, 59 times more biking joy, than in 84, my nearly new Kawasaki 750turbo, that was first production bike any size, to do the standing quarter mile in 10 seconds, went on to 161 mph, at least. My late beloved 05 Bandit, capable of doing, a little over 80mph, before the red line, in 2nd gear. Best bike ever, and I ain't even lying. Remember EVERY ride ???, Remember EVERY TWIST OF THE THROTTLE. Prof. Bandit 650i.B.T.E. out.

@Scott Lochans agree with you about the 600 bandit, a mate of mine had one about 1995, great looking bike, bright red. I used to own a GPZ 1000 RX about 1986 - 1991, quick in a straight line but handled like a tank on crack, another mate owned a 750 Turbo and it was as quick as my 1000 and a far better looking bike. He then moved onto a GPZ 900 R with a 1000RX motor in it which handled far better than mine. I eventually bout an FZR1000 Exup and a Kawasaki ZX9 R. Although quick road bikes doubt they would keep up with an RG500 or a TZ500 no matter how good a rider. Another one of our gang had a 350LC in a Spondon frame, a Harris Magnum with a 1000cc Kwak motor and an RC30, quick in their day but the latest stuff would give them a tough run for their money. Great memories and luckily we all survived to relive the stories of racing each other from Whitby and down to Lands End. Sat next to Bazza at Donington in the pit lane at the 1984 transatlantic, a great bloke and absolute legend, never to be forgotten. Two mates who were marshalls had to rescue Freddie Spencer out of the gravel at Redgate at the same meeting.
