That is a nice amount of money from KZbin as well. Now I understand how many youtubers can handle either visiting cruises nonstop for reviews, or going to amusement parks almost daily. Sadly I was finally refused on my medical to work in a ship. So no adventure for me. In the other hand, I can still enjoy your videos to see the background and information on whats like working there.

It's not all a bed of roses on a cruise ship, and not everyone can toggle making KZbin videos. I work on one, so the average payroll every 2 weeks, is pretty precise. However, it's substantially below the average median in the US.

Thank you for posting this. I think many passengers need to see this and get an idea of the salary you are making, I honestly thought it was higher for positions such as yours. I am always a good tipper on top of regular gratuities, and now feel badly for those I am unable to hand an extra tip to. You all work so very hard! Out for dinner with 2 other couples...6 of us. One of the ladies with us was going on about tipping and how servers make below min wage. I sat with her and counted the tables our server was taking care of. Showed her the math based on her tipping formula and what aprox bills each of the tables received for what they ordered. It worked out our server was making $160 cash per hour not including her wage. I pointed out that was 4 times more than what she made and our server didn't have to pay back a 200k student loan!!

Something worth mentioning is that working on a cruise ship isn't a typical 9-5 job. You don't have rent and food is free. Salary is monthly because contract varies from 5-8 months roughly. The cost of internet is really expensive. A friend of mine works on a cruise ship and he's paying so much for internet especially during sea days when he needs to talk to his family. So next time you're cruising, tip your waiter or whoever provides you with good service.

Chris, there is no mention of the value of food and shelter + no cost for travel for work every day, which is quite a lot of money that would be a considerable added cost if you were doing the same work without being on board the ship. It is impossible to put an exact number on this. So let's suppose you are sharing an apartment like going to college and joining together to buy food. ,,, ,,, estimate food? $10/day x 300 days onboard = $3000 + sharing an apartment + utilities, other things such as laundry and travel to work for 10 months ,,,? estimate, $400 x 10 months = $4000. Or this value-added of $7000 is about 20% value-added to your Salary ,,,, many people tend to not think of that + 20% and think they're not being paid properly.

Chris, I have a question I’m sure many others have thought about but never asked. When I sail with my family I ALWAYS remove the automatic gratuities from my account because I prefer to give cash directly to the staff. (Ex. Room attendant, Dining room waiters). There’s a rumor going around that the crew has a list of people that remove their gratuities during the sailing. Is that true ? Or is there no such list?
