it makes me sick to hear the announcer say "..trained really really hard, lost quite a bit of weight and added some difficulty"

My thoughts exactly! As a former elite gymnast/ power tumbler who struggled with an eating disorder for many years, I sympathize & empathize with Christy! My heart goes out to her loved ones!

She lost like 5 lbs which on her tiny self was a lot. They are obsessed. All that does is encourage her to keep going. And she did.

Yeh they used to put the gymnasts weight on the tv profile live. Like is it accurate but it seemed like violation of privacy.

My older sister was a gymnast for many years only got to high school gymnastics, me i did some recreational summer programs gymnastics, but never got in deep as her but yeh was sort of the gym rat sister we spent saturdays hanging at the gym watching workouts parents bring books for me to read or my dad would take me to HOJOS for breakfast while they did workouts. Yeh its very disciplined sport in eating. My sister would like for dinner odd eating habits she would request my mom put her speghetti sauce of to the side on the plate not allow it to mingle with her pasta. Scrape the corn of the cob. Requesting too have salads all the time though my parents did not go for that all the time lol they like well ya eat what we put in front of you or you can just not eat shrugs.

@@heidisnider6155 As a former elite swimmer who was told she had an "ass as big as a barn door" when I was 5'10.5" and 142, I lost about 6 pounds and went much faster. Very glad my coach said that, he was right and I made the appropriate adjustments and was much more successful b/c of it. For every, very public story like this, there are dozens of athletes who dealt w/this kind of statement just fine. Now, b/f anyone says how thin I already was, every body has an "ideal weight" for competition and every elite athlete knows for themselves what that weight is.

why oh why did anyone ever think it was a good idea to put a gymnasts weight up on the screen along with their name? so glad those days are over.

So, she was already having eating disorders there?? When did it start? Is there a video on youtube of when she talks about what that judge said to her???
@dcdddddd14 жыл бұрын
Yes, there's some videos on KZbin about when she mentioned that a judge told her she was too fat to make the Olympic team. I just wish that Christy would've ignored that judge because she wasn't fat at all for her height.

Notice the yellow “safety zone” around the vault? That’s because the year before her friend/teammate Julissa Gomez’s foot missed the vault and she ended up crashing head first into the horse and snapping her neck, becoming completely paralyzed and ending up in a vegetative state.

Kinda sad that when they display the gymnast's name across the screen they feel obliged to include height and weight
@laurad3243 жыл бұрын
Thankfully they stopped doing that after her death. Sad it took that!

@@laurad324 why sad ? in many sport weight and height is shown. you can stay in shape without starving yourself to death
@misstekhead Жыл бұрын
I’m shocked at Kathy Johnson who of all people has been vocal about starving herself to stave off puberty made a comment concerning weight. This isn’t the only time. She’s always praised gymnasts with (skinny) long lines. Thankfully she did learn from her early commentator years.
@amrose42146 жыл бұрын
Wow have watched these competions for years never paid attention to the height and weight thing before. Now look at it what happened to her shes 93 pounds they praise her for it.
@laurad3244 жыл бұрын
Which at 4 ft 11 isn’t yet dangerous weight but she was already starving herself.

she was my tae kwon do teachers sister and she died because she through up because the judge said she was fat and she threw up everything she ate and she threw up alot of blood and thats how she died
@Janellabelle5 жыл бұрын
She died because of multiple organ failure. Not "throughing" up blood...which would suggest a common ulcer. She had anorexia.

Makes me sick also: she’s trimmed down etc.... uhm. There are NO fat or overweight gymnasts at this level. Some are naturally more slender and some are naturally more muscular but I have never seen one fat gymnast. Not one. In fact, Christy is perfectly proportionate.
