Today on Vulnerable, I get to chat with the one and only Anneliese van der Pol! Anneliese is an actress and singer best known for her role as Chelsea Daniels on “That’s So Raven” and “Raven’s Home,” as well as her time as Belle on Broadway’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
She opens up about her experiences on “That’s So Raven” and shares what it was like reprising her role for “Ravens Home.” She also talks about her relationship with Raven-Symoné, her Hollywood hookups, and why child actors are such easy targets for substance abuse.
What role in “That’s So Raven” did Anneliese initially audition for? Which Disney star taught Anneliese about sex? Join us to find out!
You can follow Anneliese van der Pol on Instagram at @anneliesevanderpol.

@diamondkrissy101 honestly highly recommend looking up some videos about it. It's actually super sad. He's said some very incoherent things on Dr Phil, like said his wife was still pregnant with their 2 year old. He's struggled real bad with drugs, and posted many rants while under the influence. The reason Raven doesn't really talk about him is because he said publicly that they dated on set of the show and he has a tattoo of her face, everyone started asking her about him in interviews, especially when he really started going down hill, and I'm guessing her management was like "redirect the conversation if he comes up" because she avoids it well. I just hope he gets better, he and his kids deserve that

Its always hard thinking about who isn't with us today, or who is still struggling with getting help. I'd always thought of Christy as someone who "survived" the industry, but its clear that it takes something out of everyone. I'm very glad she's doing these shows and connecting with people who went through all the same stuff. There's a lot of "protect the kids" terminology being thrown around by people who don't mean it, so I'm glad Christy working with others to try and protect future child actors. Y'all are lovely people offering great insight into struggles that are so often hidden until they become tabloids, but still demystify viewer's nostalgia in a fun and thought provoking way. Probably my most favorite guests Christy had so far. Bravo. Love how realistic to many ways child actors fail. It isn't always just with the parents but the expectaction after the show is done. Must be a lot of pressure from being adored to becoming just a normal person. No wonder almost all of then turns into depression. Love how they cover the forgotten and former childhood like Orlando Brown on turns to drugs. Very impressed from the begginning to the end!

oh my goodness, this was so therapeutic and beautiful to witness. 2 people I absolutely loved watching grow up gab about theatre and uplift each other. This was a great discussion and yall sounded AMAZING singing the iconic Circle of Life song that me and all my cousins were so excited for when it premiered back in 2003. This was magical

Christy, this is the second time I heard you bring up the Circle of Life wardrobe options and I just want to say: I remember watching as a kid and thinking it did fit the image the audience had formed of you. The image was smart, cool + collected, slightly preppy because of the ruffles on the blouse but also laidback cause of the skirt.

I really enjoyed this sit down and how positive and genuine you two are. I especially appreciate Annalise for being honest and vocal about the systemic racism at the time even now. Honestly. These interviews have been really healing for me. I'm in the transition out of entertainment right now, and I'm having to process a lot of the feelings y'all talk about. Also I aaaalllways wanted to be a Disney kid, and I think its really healing to my inner child to hear all these people who I looked up to and wanted to emulate talk about how hard it was. I'm forced to realize that; knowing the level of anxiety that I have to deal with in my adult life; me as a 6-16 year old kid, would have *absolutely* fallen the Fuck apart in that environment. I don't think I would have made it, and yet there has always been this part of me that has thought it was just because I wasn't "good enough." It's not that I'm glad those things happened to all of you, but these conversations have really helped me to undo a lot of the feelings of not being good enough that have been stuffed deep down since I was a child. It's helping me with my transition to stepping away and prioritizing my healing. Disney kid live wasn't for me, and I feel protected from it actually, protected by the rejections. People talk about all the alarmist stuff, the Abuse with a capital A (ew), but y'all talk about the practical problems, and Those are what I know would have messed me up; they already have in my adult life. It's so refreshing to hear you talk about all the complex emotions of those times that are more a kind of systematic abuse/neglect, which is less flashy, but just as much Real and has to be treated as such. Thank you for helping me realize these things. Love y'all, keep being vulnerable. The world neeeeeeeds it.

I had your greatest hits disney album. Christy, Anneliese is right. You always had a huge huge talented voice. One of the most developed disney voices of the time and never ever say that you can’t sing because the snippet that you sang at the end with her was absolutely incredible, and sounded like not a day went by. That’s the theatre training. Love Anneliese too. Hearing you guys just took me back to my childhood. Please bring her back soon.
