I have to respond here. I had the EXACT same thing happen 3 times!. It's the sunblock. Trust me! My last episode was after lathering coppertone on my face and spending hours in the sun kayaking. The oxybenzone with the sun caused a horrible reaction. I had to lather my face in coconut oil cause it was so stiff and leathery. I had a fat potato face and swollen eyes but it never affected my breathing. I'm a nurse and had a patient come in with it and the doctors were clueless. I asked the mom if she put sunscreen on the kid and she said yes!. I knew it right away. Test spot an arm and see, although the face seems to be more affected. I'm 100% convinced it's the sunscreen. My mom made me a homemade sunscreen by whipping coconut oil and zinc oxide and that's what I use now. Glad hes better

As someone who is very pale and burns looking at the sun but is now living in south India , I never wear sun block. The chemicals used are far more dangerous than being in the sun. I just cover up and put a hat on and limit my outside time in the lunchtime period. What I do use is pure natural Shea butter it’s a natural SPF.

Hi Christy, if the allergy results don't show anything significant, You should start asking about the possibility that this could be caused by an autoimmune condition. Could this be a rash cause by lupus? Could this be an anemic rash? What other differential diagnosis did they think of BESIDES allergies? I'd ask all those questions

I have Lupus and R.A. So if he was given a steroid it would have helped. I have to take them when my medication needs to be adjusted from time to time. Just so that I feel better and can function.

I had these reactions for years. I just thought I had allergies. Years later I am diagnosed with autoimmune disorders and anemia. Seeing the same symptoms with my daughter and other family members.

Take him to a rheumatologist and see if he has an autoimmune disease.🙏

I'm so sorry!! My 20 month old had an anaphylactic allergic reaction about 3 weeks ago and was rushed to the hospital in the ambulance and by the time we got there, he was barely breathing. He needed epinephrine, breathing treatment, steroids, and they gave him something else.. we did benadryl at home and it basically did nothing. They sent us home with an epi pen. We stayed in the observations unit all night after it happened.. we still aren't sure what happened either. It was SO scary! I totally get it and now I'm on edge 24/7!! Talk about anxiety! I get it, I'm sorry! 😔

My son had the same reaction and years layer it happened again and he's allergic to the dye in children's medication. Who would even think of that.

My son had an allergic reaction to me spraying the sunblock on his face. The next day, his face turned scaly bumpy super dry. The doctor gave him a steroid shot & some cream to put on his face. And she told me to give him Benadryl. It started clearing up within a week.

Christy.... I live here in Vegas too... my son had the same kind of reaction, and after searching and looking for the cause, we found out that he's allergic to feather pillows and soaps; now he's using an hypoallergenic pillow and baby soap, I hope your baby gets better... hugs and kisses 💋

When my brother was younger my mom had him in the hospital because his skin was dry peeling and for the longest they couldn’t figure out why. It was Kawasaki’s disease which also causes inflammation in the body. He shortly got over it and was fine after it was treated. This could be something you all look into as well. Sorry you all have had to experience this! Hope everything stays okay🫶🏼

Thank you for sharing, this happened to my daughter a few weeks ago also. Her face and eyes were so swollen she could not open them for days. The doctor put her on a liquid steroid and Zyrtec, and it went away slowly after a week or so. Her skin around her eyes and mouth were dark and scaly and she developed eczema like skin all over her body. We are also getting allergy testing. The doctor's just couldn't figure out what it was, they thought that the severe pollen was the case. Praying for your son and family.🥰

I don't know if this will help but the same thing happened to me several years ago. My panels came back I wasn't allergic to anything except seasonal stuff. My face, hands, feet would swell up daily. I was diagnosed with idiopathic angiodema and was told they had no reason why it was happening. After several years of going through it and Dr's and research it was my hormones causing it! The only drug that helped was taking 1 Allegra every day. I don't know if ace is old enough but maybe try Allegra to prevent the swelling. Prayers for ace!

My heart goes out to you/Ace, my son broke out when he was young. At 1st no answers than when the test came back it stated he was allergic to grass. I had this same experience with my son had a respiratory infection when he was 2. then 2 months later my baby girl had thrash. then 1yr later my son had hands, feet and mouth virus so because he had it my daughter caught it. it was a new experience for me being just 26 with two tiny people. I feel your level of stress 100 percent.

This is so scary! Had he recently eaten anything that he's never had before? How difficult and frightening for all of you! I'm wondering whether he may have developed an intolerance to gluten because it can result in skin problems due to triggering an autoimmune reaction.

You can’t do allergy test unless ordered by the Doctor or there’s a referral or necessity with most insurances unfortunately. So glad he’s doing better. I can feel the fear but we would do anything for our babies. Love you guys.

@JC My first thought was autoimmune as well. @Christy Gior...please, please, please be an advocate for Ace and his care. I am assuming because you live in Nevada, the doctors tested Ace for Valley Fever but his reaction really sounds like something autoimmune. Not sure how much of his bio family health history you have but continue to seek answers on what may have caused this. Sending prayers of healthy healing!

After many tests and 3 different hospitals we found out she's allergic to tropical fruits. She had drank a fruit punch before bed and it worked its magic throughout the night.

Cristy, when you said what happened to Ace.... Oh my goodness it brought back memory of my great grandson London, His face and eyes were very swollen. We found out after an extensive food allergy testing, that he was allergic to Kiwi. We will be in prayer for his speedy recovery.🙏❤

Prayers your way. I know the feeling, my daughter got stung by a bee when I was at work and she was at home and said she was getting bumps on her face. I rushed home and in 12 minutes she was covered in huge bumps and swollen. I rushed to the ER pulled in they said I couldn't leave my car told them to tow it cause my daughters tounge is swelling. They saw her get out the car and immediately took her into the hospital and put her ahead off everyone. I was terrified.

My family uses coconut oil for the sun. 20 mins in the sun and then a break. As a special needs mom I’d fire that allergist! Stick with natural things ONLY for the skin. Aloe is amazing for healing skin conditions and irritations. Be well, mama 🙏

I'm sorry that you and Ace had to go through this. Reminds me of going through something similar when I was a kid. I broke out in a rash and every time I moved it felt like my head was about to explode. My mom thought I had finally contracted measles. Took me to the doctor. My doctor said, I don't know what it is but it's not measles, chicken poxes are anything like that. Had a somewhat similar episode in college, without the massive headache. To this day (I'm 61 now), can't tell you what happened either time. Praying that Ace will be okay and that he doesn't have to suffer through this again.

When I was a kid I randomly broke out in hives one night. Went to bed and woke up COVERED in them. My dad took me to the Dr and they had no idea what it was. They said maybe an allergic reaction to a virus and gave me some meds. They worked and it went away, thank goodness nothing crazy like with your baby! I remember them asking if there was any new change in laundry detergent, soap, medication (vitamins etc) foods or anything and we couldn’t think of a single thing. I hope you find some answers and praying that Ace continues to heal and get better every day!

My second granddaughter was born in Vegas with mystery things wrong with her. Each doctor gave a different diagnosis. The pediatrician got mad at the neurologist telling the parents to do what they wanted to do and she was done. Two years later after special formula and a feeding tube, she seems fine. I’m glad Ace is better and I hope they find out what happened so that the condition won’t be repeated. And you take care of yourself, too.

My husband had something like that happen when he went to the desert for work. It was a bug bite and his skin turned leathery as well. For about a year, anytime he ate anything, he broke out all over, no more leathery skin but somehow it developed into a reaction to any food he ate. My point is it went away although it lasted a year. Sorry that it’s not comforting however it’s basically to assure you that the doctors couldn’t peg the actual cause or triggers, it did go away.
