To clarify a bit on Nyarlathotep, he's not really the only "intelligent" outer god, rather the minds of the Gods are vast and incomprehensible to humans. Nyarlathotep just happens to have a unique fascination with Humanity for some reason, and so he presents himself in a way we can more easily wrap our heads around. In reality it's more comparable to a human messing around with an ant farm.

The flute players are the creatures that keep Azathoth sleeping, if he wakes he will just consume everything in the void as most "Other Gods" (Outer Gods is the wrong terminology, that was only brought up in the Call of Cthulu game not by Lovecraft.) are mindless creatures that consume. It was only stated that very few Other Gods have intelligence, Nyarlathotep does, Shrub does and Cthulu does. Azathoth is known as the Blind Idiot God, because he is just mindless.

Great video, a couple of issues: 1: Big John isn't really a "character", he's been in most of New Blood's games, he first appeared in RotT 2013 remake, and they just like him so much they add him in almost all of their games. (Hes also voiced by New Blood's CEO fun fact!) 2: Escher is pronounced "eh-sure" 3: The Faith note is just an easter egg, the character on the right comes from one if their newer games they are working on (Fallen Aces), where Big John exists as an action figure, and takes place somewhere in the 50s. If the games were all connected (even just being in the same universe, but different locations) the timeline wouldnt add up for this.

Big John actually predates both of these games. First appearing in the remake of the old DOS game "Rise of the Triad". He's been a reoccurring reference in boomer shooters ever since. Kind of like putting the Konami Code in your game or devs sneaking in Graffiti of Dopefish.

Great video! Though I'm not sure if Dusk and Faith are actually connected, the letter might just have been meant as a non-canon reference. Given HP Lovecraft's mythos doesn't include God or Satan but instead just the outer gods. Still, cool video and timeline!

When dusk came out I got a little confused about how people have compared it to Doom rather than Quake 1, all three games have a very similar beginning with like the whole "we doin' some whack experiment oh no now evil is everywhere aaaaaaa" but Dusk and Quake have both have a lovecraftian theme while Doom has religious themes, I'm sure there's probably some lovecraftian elements. Even gameplay wise its closer to Quake, but at the end of the day they're all great boomer shooters. I will say tho that Dusk Dude is closer To DoomGuy than Ranger

This would make a great remake with The Dusker/Dude as both Third and First person perspective and the whole thing being a journey of your unravelling and corruption. You can even work in The Colour From Out of Space initially with The Government investigating the phenomena and you returning from out of town on a supply/seed run to find it gradually changed almost overnight.

Did not realize dusk is set in the same universe as faith, admittedly I kinda got turned off from faith just for how it portrays the satanic panic as real and the Catholic church as heroic lol. Might have to go back and finish it.

In Faith's defense it mainly take's inspiration from the panic, with weird documentary's on specific random thing's being satanic being specified in the interview between Faith's dev and Wemdigoon, but other than Gary's look's being inspired by Anton Szandor LaVey, it doesn't try to actually demonize a real group of people like, say media that actually tries to demonize a group of people usually do, and in the previously mentioned interview, and honestly in general Airdorf doesn't seem to intend to demonize people, he's just making a story. also i'm gonna be honest the church itself isn't really involved in Faith's story and it honestly screw's people over more than it does directly help, hell the infamous quote at the beginning, "what i'm about to do has not been approved by the Vatican", paint's the games event's as happening in spite of whatever the Church think's.

@@tannerbruning868 i'm assuming this is about Garcia, and well to my knowledge he was given legally, Garcia just didn't want to give Michael back because he was still possessed, this turned it into kidnapping but it didn't start as that, but yeah it is kinda strange and i see why it leave's a bad taste in your mouth. but to be honest, writing this i realize how weird Michael is as part of the world, like he's possessed as badly as Amy is which makes very little sense too me given Amy is a very special case, there was a silent-hill's inspired spin-off planned which probably would have cleared this up but that wasn't made in the end.
