Just got an old chromatic gifted to me, allthough im a beginner i think it sounds alright but it is greasy and gunky big time and it was disqusting to play but still could not resist tryin it out some... i was wondering how to clean and service it properly, and i thank you for showing this nicely and simple, also small tips like the tubing is much appriciated as my finances are very low atm. Tomorrow morning ill take mine apartfor cleaning and see if it has any problems you pointed out. Then im on my journey to learn how to play it. Thanks alot and greetings from Sweden!

Excellent video! Thank you. I've used the paper method for years. Works well. I usually never need to remove the reed plates to do this. Thank for the tips on bumper options! Going to try your preference. Do you have a retailer you prefer?

What is the size of new Philips head reed plate screws, that are on my new Seydel 1847 Silver harmonicas?

Thanks for the good advice. One question though: some suggest running warm water through the chromatic harmonica while pumping the slider so that all chambers can be washed through; and then bathing the entire harmonica for a short while in warm water, after which the instrument is tapped vigorously, slide open, then shut before being set face down for a few hours to allow it to dry in the air. Naturally, this procedure is only recommended for chromatic harmonics without wooden combs. Since all other harmonicas are constructed entirely of watertight parts, it seems logical that they cannot suffer any harm from this method. Seydel seems to allow for a brief water bath for the mouth piece - even when it is attached to the comb - but warns against a full bath. What is your opinion?

Valves are hard to dry and will curl if kept wet. I don’t like the chromatic bath idea.

@@gastonpiget1034 above all- warmup before play (warming blanket or underarm 5-10 min, ) and leave open to cool afterwards.

@@nadlerus88 Thanks. Did just that. Nice sound. Then, after putting it down for 30 minutes, the E (8th hole blow) stuffed up. Not a sound after that. Took off the cover and carefully moved the reed and valve. No dice. The instrument goes back to Seydel. A little fussy is okay. Chroms are like that. But not too fussy. Will go back to my Seydel nonslider and my Eaststop Forerunner - both without valves. They are both very forgiving.

@@gastonpiget1034 Its rare that there is a 'bad' reed, so I would follow the instructions for cleaning the valve with paper, and plinking the reed a few times. If that doesnt work then Greg@Seydel will take care of it.

‘Breathy’ means lots of air pressure but weak reed response.
