Been a long time Chrome OS fan. After using it and then going back to Windows, Mac, or a Linux distro I quickly miss it and come back to it every time. It's so simple and snappy, its clean and out of the way. I think every computer user should use it and see if there's actually something they can't do on it. It also gets people in the good habit of using cloud storage and not local storage which is prone to drive failures and data loss. I've never lost a file since using it.

Total storage of my laptop 120 gb SSD + 1 TB. But in some footages I was in a live session. The download file is 1gb I think.

I heard steam will support chrome OS, so this can be an ultimate os for old laptops, faster than windows, more simple than most linux distribution, and can play old/indie games/VNs, also cloud gaming are more and more a thing. If you trust google.

@@hello-qn8xy nah command line need specific knowledge to execute a simple function while in UI u can just click your way through with common sense i remember my early days with linux it sucks so badly that even when i'm just copying command line from tutorials on the internet, it NEVER worked, after hours of researching i finally found out that the command line was never correspond to what software i have on my distributions despite being the same damn distribution but they changed something in new release so many portion of the command line should be replaced with something different for example the fkin notepad that doesnt even sound like a notepad lmfao there is a reason why Android dominated the market while desktop Linux still stuck at 1% in consumer market, as much as people try to use it, more will uninstall to install back Windows because shit just dont work by simply pointing and clicking with common sense as things should be. Imagine if we have to type command line on smartphone running Android we will all be using Windows Phones OS in 2022 lmfao or even that old ass Nokia/Samsung java thing Google knows what consumer wants and got them right. The only reason you say command line is easier because you already learnt and practiced it, likewise a surgeon can talk shit like doing surgery is easier than painting too but then again there is only 1% of them in the world so does Linux users

Been using it for work - school administration - for a month now, makes Windows 11 (on a 1 yr old laptop) look absolute junk, the speed difference is amazing, Chrome OS Flex is so much faster and simpler. Running it from a USB stick. I knew Windows was clunky but until Flex I didn't realize how clunky.

windows 11 is smooth, your pc might just be old, windows isnt made from low spec pcs, thats why if your going to spend money on a pc you have to go big, i spent 1700 on my desktop and 1k on my lpatop and they run fine for me.

Here is a tip, try to enable ABD in the Linux terminal then you can install any apk you want with the terminal, hope this helps!

Simplicity and popularity. Chrome OS itself is popular, so many are likely to try Flex if they want something other than Windows. Linux isn't as widely known, and isn't sold on anywhere near as many machines. Chrome OS and Chrome OS Flex are indeed different a number of ways, but for the less tech savvy people it doesn't matter. Ironically though, Chrome OS Flex is built on Gentoo. However, despite it being based on Gentoo Linux it's not really considered a Linux distribution. More or less something else entirely.

I absolutely love ChromeOS, ChromiumOS and it's forks, don't get me wrong but I have to say: 1. that the "since chrome os is based on the Linux Kernel, you can install linux apps" does not hold anymore cause Windows Subsystem for Linux exists. 2. you can install some Windows apps on chrome os but it's not great. you just have to install wine, playonlinux. now, the reasons why it's not great is that Wine does not support a large library of apps and you are running windows apps in linux in chromeos.

Been dealing with the same problem for years in Linux systems, the only two distros that ran stable with Wine were YLMF OS and Zorin OS with Ubuntu as a runner up.

I see a lot of people saying how much better Linux is than this. I honestly like Linux. I want it to do well. But... let's face it. It will never be as popular as the other major OS out there until it becomes equally as user friendly. The sheer amount of things the command window is needed for in Linux is kinda insane. I don't have time to learn all of that, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I just want to start my computer, install my program, and go. Seriously... someone out there make it where your average user never has to think about the command window for their favorite games and programs, and that would help a ton. And Lutris/ PlayOnLinux could stand to be a little easier too. Thankfully, Steam games work amazingly well, even the Windows only ones, because of Proton. We need more apps that good and that easy to use.

I’ve just installed Flex on a Mac Mini from 2014 and it seems to function well enough, but I haven’t found how to automatically boot to Chrome OS. Now I have to press the Option Key during the startup sequence and then choose the right drive, which is strange since the installation should wipe everything else.

It is fast, it is a clean os but it has no drivers for an external dvd drive to watch a dvd that one has bought and paid for. Disqulifies it as a daily driver. Then there is the question of data skimming of course.

I'd like a simple solution for backing up photos from SD cards on journeys and don't want to bring my productivity laptop or Macbook along. Currently there's no android support (and no mention of planning it), Linux support is not available for all hardware. It also won't run or install on many devices (including my old AMD laptop). I would use it if those problems are addressed in the stable release. But I highly doubt android support will be added though. Might try getting a real Chromebook instead lol.

Isn't it possible to install play store on Linux, if that is possible then you can technically install it on Chrome OS. Also i think it makes sense for Google to add it since the more apps you use the more ads they will serve (and make money of course).

@@ristekostadinov2820 It's possible to install Play Store in Waydroid. But Waydroid is like a full Android inside a container, not a compatibility layer like the Wine project. So there might be usability issues. I think it's possible they won't give android support. Either because it'd be hard to maintain so much hardware support for it; or to incentivize the user to buy Chromebook instead.

linux runs on basically everything lol. a team have reverse engineered apple silicon to support linux so i doubt that theres any amd devices that arent supported given that it is x86 so if chrome os doesnt support it right now, it might in the future

After receiving flex os auto-update on my ioxo cloudready chrome book, the touch pad quit working. Now I have to use external usb mouse, and the chrome book only allows one plug in device at a time. Remarkably simple - Looks at the recovery utility - I doubt that, simple would have been an supplying an ISO like everyone else. If you look at the reviews of the recovery utility many people are reporting the linked software to not work and being a fake.
