The team hope to find the home of the Knights Templar, a major power in the 12th and 13th-centuries who protected pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. Templecombe in Somerset is the site of a priory, home to an order of fighting monks, that dates back to the 12th-century. The exact location of the original building has been confused by later construction. The Time Team set themselves the task of untangling the ruins and coming to grips with the history of the location.

As an American, student digger, back in University, I LOVE these episodes. Laymen have NO IDEA how tedious and boring these digs are. It's 99% digging in bad weather, mud and dirt, finding nothing and 1% pure adrenaline dump when you do. I did a few Viking digs in Ireland as an undergrad. I really love how these episodes edit out the monotony and get to the good stuff. I wish we had this show in the US.

I just love these Time Team's were Mick spends the 1st part of the show gathering evidence for what will happen later on in the show, it appears Mick does not do anything in a hurry or a rush.

in these earlier episodes you see what the real Time Team was about;Mick is the person who co-ordinates the whole dig,and seems much more hands on involved than later series and more enthusiastic, everybody gathers evidence,Tony seems to be actually learning instead of just being sarcastic,it has a much more 'Time Signs' feel to it,which I think is how Mick intended it to be.

I couldn't agree more. These episodes make me feel so nostalgic. I always lived watching these types of shows, and it was my dream to be another Phil when is was a wee one. Just imagine being there in person, truly experiencing history first hand. This is the closest we will come to a time machine. At least in my opinion, but who knows?

Time signs was how he intended it to be alright but the work product seems to have evolved along a life path all its own over it's Initial run. Now the KZbin reboot is really nice. They've got a handful of new production episodes on the channel "time team official" it's amazing what geophys gets up to anymore. Jimmy's now driving a rig instead of pushing it, they use lidar and drones instead of helis. It's amazing

The Knights Templar were distroyed by the french king at the time(forget which one). He was deeply in debt and the coffers were totally empty. So he took the templers money and property. Oh and I might mention he was in debt to the templars so when he distroyed/disbanded the templars he no longer had to pay the debt.

yup - a 'hot box'. also used in soap making to insulate the soap to slow down the cooling process so it doesn't crack. I have used the hot box method, using a cooler & towels. It will roast a chicken to perfect tenderness.

Everybody makes videos about the Templars but we knew that they were absolute scoundrels. It would be awesome if there could be more videos about the Knights Hospitaller, which was a much more noble group of martial monks.

🤔 what makes them think that “severed head” is Jesus? IMO it’s John the Baptist, who was not only Jesus cousin but was executed by beheading. Jesus was crucified on the cross. John was also believed to be an Essene. A secret group linke the templars. Tony said the pic looks like the shroud of Turin? 😂 The man in the shroud (Jesus imo) had his eyes closed, and mouth too.
