When the trap element actives and steals the element and their turn is lost has got to be one of the best “Screw you” moments of Chrono Cross. Now it sucks when it’s used on you but I just don’t cast any elements and I just beat the enemy down with physical attacks 😂

So I actually never did a lot of this stuff before I started learning how to speerun; therefore, although I know a lot about battle machanics or damage formulas, etc., I get to experience these videos the same way new people to the game do! However if you MISS Frog Prince and are on a NG+ run despite that a Frog Prince Trap does exist NOTHING with actually use it not even Aquator the Blue Tower of Terra Doll boss end of game will ever use it. On the remaster Bunyip Red innate form no longer uses Volcanno the games AI replaced that turn with Magma Burst instead so that it never uses Volcano while you can trap the lv 7 summons off all but Frog Prince off of Aquator the Tower of Terra is the final dungeon so I'd rather trap the lv 7 summons off of the normal enemies. However on NG+ runs NO normal enemy will ever use Frog Prince so its still the only missable summon.

You can also simply steal Earthquake from those same Centaurpede's as their rare steal. This is THE earliest way to get a Level 5 Element in the game as far as I'm aware, and you can get tons of them if you're patient & want to keep trying for the rare steal.

I used the trap alot in CC in the ps1 version from minute 1 and now in the remaster to trap all elements now and yes you can get ultranova from the white dragon but its hard to get it to use it.

you can also use the built-in empower cheat (press the right analog button) to instantly get max elements levels so you don't need to use physical attacks at all to build them (so you don't risk killing the enemies). I shamelessly used it to farm a few "shiny" materials to forge the best armors & weapons since they only drop if you kill enemies with summons.

@@JRPG-Mickey A Drop/Steal guide, I looked at an old Chrono Cross guide for stealing and it didn't seem accurate. Hard to find good info. Most "guides" list boss fights but I am sure there are some good trash mobs, especially early on worth stealing from, or farming for drops.

For level 7 summoning, you can trap (characters with few elemental grid maw have the lvl 7 space earlier). he field must be the color of element: Sonja from Bulb (Shadow Forest Home) Red Wolf (hottdogity on Mount Pyre Home) Mothership (shadow cat on Fossil Valley Another) Golem (centarupede on Hydra Marshes Another) Unicorn (Dodo on fossil valley home)

IMHO Sprigg SUCKS as is NEVER in my party ever upon getting Norris to join besides the Cuscus's CAN'T COUNTER with Black Hole the only element worth trapping off of them IF it kills them instantly with it and it CAN. I had The STINGERS on the way to the Green Dragon battle Home world only use Sonja the Bulbs don't really have enough HP to survive your physical hits before you can trap it.

Element traps reminds me a bit of Final Fantasy VIII Draw command to get magics, back when I played the game for the 1st time I barely used a lot of the stuff the game has to offer, maybe this time I'll be able to actually exploit all the mechanics properly.

Is there a complete list that says what enemies are trapable? This mechanic seems very complicated/convoluted sadly I might skip this if you can buy or find these elements somewhere else in the game. Excellent videos though man

That's just it, the level 7 and 8 elements can generally ONLY be obtained by Trapping them.

Do a character tier list. So far I have looked at a few and they are quite different. For example some lists have the alien on the top and some on the bottom which is confusion. Bte I like him more because he looks cool

Serge, Glenn, and Harley are like the top 3. Leena, Guile, Riddle and Razzly are great magic users. Leena is good in general, Razzly can do a lot of dmg when you get her and her fierce attack can hit all enemies, and Guile just has tons of magic dmg when you get him (but his grid starts off really slow but gets way better later) Pierre is also good late game when you get his gear (Serge, Glenn and Pierre for lots of critical hits) But the problem with tier lists is the RNG factor on level ups characters missing out on stat gains, so they'll probably have to catch up to early game characters. But any tier list that doesn't have Glenn and Serge at the top is questionable. Their X-Strike dual tech will kill EVERYTHING with ease, and they get the best weapons in the game. Dual Einlazers and Mastermune gets like 100% crit rate or something. Harley is the best magic user and has great techs, but you have to beat the game 3 times to use her for more than just the Lynx section.

I saw in another vid that supposedly the Centaurpede will also use Golem when the field is all Yellow?? Has that been verified?

You can actually trap Inferno and Free Fall from Bunyip in Fort Dragonia after SunOfAGun. Use Inferno Trap on phase 1 bunyip then use Free Fall trap on his phase 2. Run, rinse and repeat.

Also the water boss in fort he will case iceberg if you used two fire elements in row

bunyip can also cast Volcano so make sure to trap it as well, it begins using inferno although it could start by casting volcano know the spells before either one is used for the correct trap.

You can get carnivore from fargo in NG+ with the carnivore trap he will use it once, but only in NG+ since trap elements are not available till after the pirate ship event. THe earliest you can trap is in fort dragonia iceburg off of the gloop boss using two fire skills.

Oof. The only way I know to get the Black Hole trap was from Marbule! Fortunately you can still learn Black Hole from the Tragedienne's or Doppelgang Total Chaos when you GET the Trap!

Except if you don't have any Black Hole traps you can't buy any until AFTER you beat Miguel so that leaves only the Total Chaos Dopplegang method and ONLY if the Cuscus enemies SURVIVE it Black Holes instant kill effect CAN work on Cuscus but I'll never use Sprigg for the entire game anyways just so fight the Undead Hydra boss Another World only requires full Black Field.

I don't understand why total chaos is necessary to cast black hole, couldn't you use another character to do this, or is total chaos extremely weak in magic?

Kinda late but at that point in the game no one else in the party has Black Hole. Transforming into Total Chaos lets you use black hole even if you don't actually own the element.

Hi don’t buy multiple of summon traps you can only get one per game I think and don’t buy frog blue element. The five summon are yellow Another world marsh centipede Green summon Green dragon island pray mantis needs to be two forget which world Red home world dog enemies forget there names need to be only one Black shadow enemies valley over looking the path two of them only Another World White bird valley overlooking the path home world Blue you will get in the story Traps some of the bosses will used them some have attack patterns. Blue boss will you used level six blue attack only after you used two red elements in row. Need Glenn or the Wrestler and you may beat the green boss first. Holy light sun of gun Fire and black can be used the next boss. Level white magic can be used by alien and sky dragon. Level six white As well as sage and M

hm... 17 seconds on the video and you're already wrong, but meh. the game has a few tutorials, one of them, really at the begining, is how traps work. and then, there's the summoning tutorial. then you reach the water dragon island and the dragon gives you frog prince and says "take my subordinate" , then you add 1+1+1 and voilá, you know what's a trap and what's good for. it is however quite true that finding the summons by yourself is a feat like no one... but the trap tutorial covers everything you need to know about traps.

I disagree, forcing you to choose pathways that will lead you to some but not all locations/characters gives it an enormous replay value, especially on new game+ where you can then go back and make all of the choices you didn’t pick the first time through, it’s almost like 1.5 games in 1

I just finished once , i too, me 45 hours, if you want all in the game , you really can't without a guide. Just broing to repolay same game for littles add. The game is very good , but the story is a really bad point for me its incomprehensible... i have to read things on the internet A game must make you understand the story, going to see the explanations of the story spoils the flow of the game when you discover it, you arrive at the end without really understanding the purpose because they got lost in the explanations, the game tells you balances a lot of information only at the end of the game it's just undrinkable@@samsonhaze6595
