Despite this and Boss 1 both being boss themes, I feel this one is much different. It’s much more serious. It’s not a chaotic little scuffle between your team and a strong enemy. No, this is a battle that’s been long awaited, against a powerful foe. And you portrayed that contrast perfectly. The brass is more prominent, and the secondary melody is less random feeling and more supporting. It’s go time.

Awesome way to describe it @TheAdvertisement! I can still remember this feeling when you finally confront Zeal after her evil doings and treading through the long corridors of the Black Omen you think to yourself "At long last, we're ending this!" and this music comes on. It was so perfect.

I like to think of the tone of the boss themes like this: Boss theme 1 is "Alright! Time for a boss fight! This is going to be so fun!" And boss theme 2 is "You're screwed if you didn't prepare for this..." Thats how they sound in tone to me.

This was probably one of the very last tracks added to Chrono Trigger, as a prototype dating back to about 4 months before the game's final release instead uses a slower, more dramatic orchestral mix of Uematsu and Noriko Matsueda's Boss Battle BGM for the one (unfinished) major boss battle coded in, the fight with Azala and the Black Tyranno.

Why are people saying Masamune was hard? Or is using potions considered cheesing it? There were some bosses that took me multiple tries and Masamune was not one of them, but I do admit that I had to heal so maybe that's why it felt easy.

Just finished listening to all of your game orchestral remixes, and wow, just wow. I absolutely love your approach--faithful to the original work, yet elevating the whole experience to a new level that takes the listener not only back in time to nostalgia, but also into the unwritten future to imagine the ways in which these epic titles could be remade and re-imagined. True to Chono Trigger's motifs, these past/present/future time streams become intertwined and I find myself experiencing the track anew with 10-year-old wonder and awe.

Thanks! Yes, the instrument in the original was some kind of woodwind, but I changed it to strings because woodwinds need breathing spaces and can't actually be played continuously like that. Anyway, I'm going to make an album version of this track soon using newer libraries and better orchestration, so I might end up changing the instrument again.

Amazing but without the smashing hit your ears so we are gonna die we're in trouble because the boss is looming over us. You have a beautiful piece of music. Truly.
