Theorize a few things. One, Sombra is still evil in this new world and Celestia is being lied to. Two, he sacrifices himself at the end of the comic, so he can save the day and his lover. Lastly, Celestia realizes she can't be with Sombra due to the dimensional rift, or somepony else does, and either she or the other one does it so they can't cross worlds anymore. Why? Because Celestia can't have nice things...

Okay, whoever writes the dialog for the comics needs to write episodes of the show. Especially Luna's lines. She is amazing in these books. And I think they're trying to make us like Sombra more by giving us this studly 'Mirror Universe' version to be Celestia's love interest. ;} Perhaps it'll also give us some more insight into Sombra-prime. Dem windows--! Chrysalis represents love, Alicorn princess Trixie humility, Flim & Flam fairness, and Derpy wisdom. Brilliant. Hmm. I'm kinda liking Fauxlestia and Dupluna, although Twona is just hilarious. Evil!Luna (wow, is she evil!) and regular Celestia together would remind me of Annabelle and Belladonna from All Dogs Go to Heaven. Pinkie refers to Celestia as a "character"...aaaannnnd, the fourth wall (if there is a wall with books) is blasted to smithereens. Hee, I always thought Horsefeathers would be a good Pegasus name. And I like AJ's outlaw-ish mugshot on the phony poster. Twilight, I have many times pondered the possibility of infinite universes and selves...good gracious, the Star Trekkiness continues. And watch out insulting earth ponies, there, Rainbow. You racist. ;P "You and your 'offer' can go..." CAN GO WHAT, SOMBRA?? :33 Hrm. Well, setting sail in a bathtub, and then getting swallowed by a whale, daring to choose a jingly wizard hat over a helmet, and being shot out of the whale's blowhole is much more badass than stealing a hat from a hobo. He's very Merlinesque. x] For a moment I thought he was going to meet Pinocchio or Geppetto or a clownfish and a tang inside the whale!

How is Sombra alive right now? Sombra was alive over a thousand years ago and in the alternate universe the guy is still alive and hasn't aged a bit. In the original universe he is alive probably because he was stuck in the Shadow World by the princesses. But he wasn't banished to some nether world or anything like that here, so how is he still alive?

Don't you remember the season 4 premiere, When Twilight was asked to use alicorn magic, she USED THE SAME MAGIC AS KING SOMBRA. Don't you think that sombra may have reached alicorn magic level at some point, if only on the other end of the magical spectrum.

All that can be considered a possibility in the original universe, but here he is not altered in anyway, he is a perfectly normal unicorn by all account. If he knew any Alicorn magic or Dark Magic then I doubt he would have a problem. The fact that he has nothing that Original Sombra had makes it even more confusing. He's not powerful, he's not evil, he is barely a king, and he is (somehow) a Unicorn that has apparently gained eternal life, because he is over a THOUSAND years old and still young looking.

This comic gives the official backstory but it hasn't told us everything, it only told us what he was like before not how he became the Sombra we all know.
