Since I was a kid, I've been drawn to "liminal spaces", of course, that term wasn't used back then. But I've always known, it's a feeling, and I will always enjoy it. Places I've seen in my dreams, seemingly unprompted, dreams I never wanted to wake up from. Thank you for capturing it. That's why I follow this channel.

I always thought that whenever we dreamed of nature, we never questioned the surreal and random aspects of the worlds around us due to how unorganized nature is in real life. Whenever we dream of manmade structures, however, we automatically try to recognize uniformity and purpose in those structures, but in our dreams, we just can't do that. Something about these structures will always have something off because our brains will always try to give it the random aspects nature is naturally given.

Plus these buildings and such are part of nature to a lot of us. Not jungle-y nature, but that they are natural in our everyday environment. So perhaps that's why we add more nature-y elements to them?

Brains aren't powerful enough nor consistent enough to define and project rigid objects like you'll see coming from graphics computers. It's just the brain hallucinating what it thinks the world looks like to the best of its ability.

Was always pretty upset that the whole "Liminal Space" trend died down but that's how the internet goes with all trends. Thanks for making this video! I'm glad that one of my favorite KZbinrs made a video about this regardless of the fact that its been a good while since the trend was popular 😃

I think it's good that the trend is dying because it can return to being a niche topic.

I liked the aesthetic, the visuals, the feeling, way before that. Mostly in real life, back when it wasn't on the internet. I probably will still have a strange obsession with it until I die. Don't be too concerned with trends. Although I'm very glad to know other people resonate with the concept. Strangely many, it seems like.

i just found this channel a few days ago and iam in love with it. i cant put my finger on the why, but watching these videos, calms me down and puts me in a certain state. maybe its the silent hill esque music, but watching these videos puts me back into a mood and feelings, that i last felt when i was 22/23 years old, late at night, on weekends, when work was done, i had the weekend off and browsed through youtube, 4chan, css mod pages etc..i was very much into conspiracy theories back then and watched alot of docus about it. iam 38 now and glad to have found this, tho i gotta be honest here, i wish i could go back to that time. for me and in my pov, everything was better in 2008 for me, compared to all the years that came after

Surrealism is as still popular today: -Luis Buñuel's surrealist films, Rose Hobart, Maya Deren's dreamlike films, David Lynch films, Charlie Kaufman films, and other surrealist filmmakers (Ari Aster, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Fernando Arrabal and Wojciech Has) are still studied, reevaluated by film critics and film students alike too today, incorporating some of their ideas for the modern day avant-garde -It influenced to an extent Magic Realism, Postmodernism, Absurdist Art, and any Psychological art which are still popular today -When the Wild West of the Internet was still in force, theres a lot more surrealist art due to the low regulstory rules that enforces the Internet (YTPs which has fizzled iut due to copyright, Animutations by Neil Cicieriega, all the creepy videos that scared the early Gen-Z like Obey the Walrus, and stuff like that) -Postmodernism which has been greatly influenced by the Surrealists is the dominant worldview from the early 60s to the current era, influencing everything we know. -60s counterculture and their psychedelic art movement is inspired by Surrealist art. -Dali and Magritte being popular around their own social circles -Surreal humor whos precursors are Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll, mixing with the popular nonsense fantasy writers like Roald Dahl and Dr. Seuss have influenced 21st century humor -Vaporwave uses surrealist and nostalgic art to criticize consumerism -The avant-garde today is basically half-experimental with surreal elements, and half-surrealism with realistic elements in the style of maybe David Lynch or other popular film directors. -Psychological films today (Psychological thriller, horror, drama) has basically mildly surreal elements -Acceptance of indie surrealist movies into mainstream media -Basically the culture of the 2010s and 2020s trying to be as absurd and surreal as possible as a form of escapism.

dreams fascinate me so much. I think of them very often and sometimes get excited to go sleep so I could see where I will appear next. I often think they are much more than just something imagined by your mind but instead a whole world which is only connected to ours through or unconcious mind. Also took some drugs in the past that really reminded me of dreaming, like it was trying to replicate what dreaming feels like but not quite there. i think there are so many worlds that we are only aware of when asleep

Taking L-Tryptophan made my dreams a lot more vivid, induced some lucid dreams. It wasn't even intentional, I think it was included in a mild, over-the-counter sleep aid. Anyway, I've had some unforgettable dreams over the years. Just feelings, rarely anything concrete at all. I always wish I could remember more. It seems the concept of "liminality" and dreams are connected. Probably some nostalgia as well. But I've always been drawn to that feeling. I remember at one point when I was younger I had the strange urge to stay in a certain hallway, its architecture, design, could be described as "liminal" nowadays. I thought I was weird at the time. Does this make sense to anyone else?

This video made me realize why dreamcore and weirdcore aesthetics is so popular today: as you said, 2000s were times of excitement about the future. Today this excitement turned into a fear. Dreamcore and weirdcore are something more, than just nostalgia: these images are windows to a world, that never actually existed, but feels familiar

So you don't like the naming conventions, but what does "something that doesn't need a name" even mean beyond "you personally don't care to identify THAT particular feeling" which people who do quite clearly form a community around and get to unpack those feelings more precisely rather than stew in psychological/emotional alienation. And that's what naming such feelings/things comes down to in the end: forming community. Reducing alienation.
