Very sad too on hearing the news 10 minutes ago. Terry Hall was a very, very brave guy. By being open about his past, he must have helped thousands of adults deal with mental health problems stemming from childhood 'experiences'. I was slightly too young for the Specials but I bought everything by the Fun Boy 3 and I played the first Colourfield LP to death. I can't think of anyone else in music remotely like him. 63 is no age at all. Very sad.

The singer in my old band met Terry once in a Coventry pub. They'd been talking for a few hours when he finally mentioned that he was a musician and had been in a few bands. My friend had no idea who Terry was until a mate of hers walked into the pub n said, fucking hell you're sat talking to Terry Hall. My friend knew a few Specials songs but didn't know them to look at. She said Terry was great company n he listened more than he talked. A very humble and sweet man. Missed greatly. Cov legend. x

Over the last half-a-dozen years or so, our generation - those of us born in the Sixties - has lost so much dearly-loved talent in the music industry. The news of Terry's sudden passing has hit me surprisingly hard: I've actually been quite emotional and at first, I was at a loss for a reason for the unexpected flood of tears. Speaking to my peers I realised why: The Specials were there for me when I became more seriously interested in music as an eleven year-old and then as a teenager I loved Fun Boy Three and Colourfield. Am I also grieving for the loss of youth? For that fading world of forty years ago, seemingly simpler times - yet with as many hardships and injustices as the present? Much empathy with all of you feeling as gutted as I do: keep singing along to this - I've not stopped singing all week ❤️ Timeless classic.
@katethomas57122 жыл бұрын
I'm younger than you, born in 1978 but I feel the same. I was surprised by how sad I've felt. I've sang along with his music in its various iterations for years, watched his interviews, have always felt quite drawn to him for reasons I only found out the answer to when he passed. Ghost Town is so atmospheric and immediately takes me back to growing up in the 1980's. He's always been there, somewhere all my life, and now he's not. Always came across as a lovely, honest, kind and gentle man. And yes, I would agree that there is something in the grief for our lost youth, and we can physically see that time is passing and the endlessness of all our childhood summers is not there anymore
