What really gets me excited is the sound of that hemi as it's revving up. Engines don't sound like that anymore.
@jjentertainment60112 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah the hemi sounds amazing!! Yeah cars today just sound boring compared to old relics like these!

How fitting that the Trumpet to herald in the death of half of mankind and the end of civilization in a brilliant flash of light was Hemi powered. HimEee

@@jjentertainment6011 There used to be a video that had a recording where you could hear one of these and the audio picked up a distinct echo of the sound reflecting back. That or there were two of these set close together and both throttled up at the same time but the sound lag made it seem an echo. Haunting and emotionally powerful to people who lived through and understood the ramifications of what that sound could portend. Nice history on these.

FYI, Hemi is pronounced "Hem-E", not "Hem-I"

In the audio recording when the tone of the siren changes from RRRRRR to UUUUUUU it's because the dynamic range of the recording device has been exceeded and the recording is saturated with distortion. There aren't a lot of microphones that can record normally in close proximity to something that loud, especially the type of mics you find built into cameras. You have to get at least a few hundred feet away from that thing to record it when it wails at full speed. I have seen only one video on YT where a guy took one out to a remote area and ran it up to full speed, then got back away from it to give an idea of what it really sounds like. It's an older video with a camera from the day but the best one I have heard. LINK --- kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2bWgZdvpMeqe7c

I wonder when the last time that siren ran, it looks like at some point it had been repainted but it looks like it was done 20years ago, the Chrysler's had the ability to be remote operated but a person would regularly inspect and test the siren manually, some were manual control only but some had a switch that would allow it to be selected between manual and remote control, the siren in California at the top of the hill at cerro negro still has the remote control power boxes still in place under the siren, lots of these units were removed and scrapped in the 90s and early 2000s. They were too costly to keep running and were very high maintanance. They also could be optioned to run on propane or gasoline, which depending on where the unit was place was very important, also in cold climates they had a battery warmer and a block heater so they will be ready to start at anytime, these things are very cool and quite impressive for the time they were made, I would love to see this siren run again. There is a chrysler museum that has the best example of one of these units, their unit came from a town called Trenton and was pulled off a tower in the late 90s and has been perfectly restored and this siren had the remote control ability as well. There is another one located in a neighborhood in california that got a cosmetic restoration and still stands today but it is mechanically too far gone to run anymore and there is another one in park in California that is totally abandoned and even has a tree growing through the engine cowling.

I used to hear Cerro Negro from Apperson St and Hillhaven in Tujunga when I was a kid. The siren at Pinewood school would finish its test and would shut down, then you could still hear the Chrysler Bell at Cerro Negro for another minute before it shut down. That was in the mid 1960's. If I hit the Lotto, I will build a scaled up version and power it with a Big Block Chevy engine.

We don't get tornados in NY. But we do have a Nuclear plant about 15 minutes away from this and this would be a cool backup if it was rebuilt!

Wow so cool 😎. Live in New York state all of my life and never knew that was a crystler air raid siren. The city of Rochester should try to fire up the old crystler siren see if it still works.
