Chrysler was the first of the Big Three in Australia to offer a V8 out of the Valiant, Falcon, Holden trio. Fitted with a 273 V8 and floor shifted automatic transmission with bucket seats, the Valiant AP6 (AP meaning Australian Production) was a great package. Very nice example of a rare and desirable Aussie V8 classic. The VC model which followed the AP6 won its class at the 1966 Bathurst 500. In fact the two entered finished first and second - a little known Bathurst 1-2 for these mighty V8 Mopars!

Thanks Mark. I love those VC V8 Valiants too. The black vinyl roof, nice interiors and all the V8 badges everywhere. Cool cars.

Absolutely Mark. Australian cars that were underestimated and never received enough publicity. Same could be said for a 1977 XC Fairmont GXL for example...what happen to those? or the Marquis Fairlanes? I know I am talking Fords, and cars that didn't race, but prime examples in my opinion. Cheers Mark. Fletch.

My AP6 back in the 70's was the start of a Mopar life. Moving to the US in the late 80's put me in Mopar hog heaven & I lost count of how many I bought & sold when they were everywhere but I still have a 65 Barracuda, a 70 Plumb Crazy R/T Challenger, a 70 Plumb Crazy Deputy Challenger, a 70 Sublime R/T Coronet & a heap of engines.

@@markbehr88I lived in Sydney for nine years before coming over here & had an XP hardtop that I put a turbo'd 2V-250 in, the last Ozzy built AMC Javelin & a VJ Charger, I'd sure like to have that one over here. No such thing as too many cool cars Mate!😎

@@nzsaltflatsracer8054 Very cool. A friend of mine (since passed away) used to have an ex police VK 360 Charger. That thing went! Your Javelin would have been the Hump guard model built by AMI.That same friend had a very cool 343 1968 Javelin. He used the thrash that thing but it kept coming back for more. RIP Pete - you are missed 😢

Real nice. Love that little Pentastar on the bottom of the front guard and that beautiful V8 bonnet emblem. Remember them well.

Yes that was a nice touch wasn’t it. I always wondered why it was only on one side though? Maybe someone knows?

Had one, in white, I cried when it got stolen and torched. Ap6 had drums all round, Vc had front discs. The Wog chariot also had torsion bar front end, leaf springs on rear. Tow bar tongue on the Ap6 was different, was a V shape solid bolt on .

Yes. For sure John. It is basically identical and I imagine some of the parts for the grille were actually made in USA rather than tooled up in Australia.

Really cool car. I still remember seeing these sedans driving around as a child, most likely hemi sixes, but the wagon I don't believe I have ever seen. I doubt many wagons still exist.

Yes, class car here. Back when an "8" up on the centre of the hood meant something. A real transition period here for Chrysler in Australia - combining the United States Detroit mainframe - combined with Australian styling from our boys @ Tonsley Park South Australia. The 273 V8 is sort after these days as well, as they were the only Chrysler small block that had adjustable rocker gear...and to think I took one to the tip back in 2005 !! what was I thinking?? Cool car Mark - and the white VIP's with the black vinyl roof is also a very cool & collectable car today. Cheers Fletch.

Wow. Jim. That would have been a very cool car back in the day, regardless of whether they thought it was your Dad’s car. I had a ZH Fairlane Sportsman when I was only 20 or so. It was an old man’s car but I loved it.
