"Tech" was diagnosed with throat and lung cancer which had spread to his liver in the fall of 1968 … He had a 5 pack a day habit of a Pall Mall non-filters for 25 years .. RIP.

I also thought it was Chesterfields and a case of Schlitz beer every day.

I sometimes joked that the Chrysler EVA sounded like an old chain smoker. The Datsun/Nissan Maxima and Z-car used a minature record player so it wouldn't sound like and old chain smoker.

So, you knew the service tech in this video? Or, was related to him?

Fairly certain the 9/1/4 inch rear end wasnt ever released. I think 73 or 74 where the 9/1/4 came out.

Tech lost his job in 1972. He was in the training slide shows for 24 years. Last time I saw him was back in 1999 lushing on a bottle of mad dog 20/20, he was a homeless alcoholic living in the street gutters of Detroit ! note,, he is not in , in 1973, 74, 75, 76 etc.. training videos.

He was using a Chrysler Electronic Voice Alert to talk because many years of smoking caused throat cancer.

The 318 was a proven engine for a long time,Chrysler dumped it replacing it with a worthless pos 4.7 sohc engine

I've had more than one of each and they both have their virtues. Had they made some durability improvement to the 4.7, it would have been alright, but with the advent of the third generation Hemi, there was no real motivation to develop the 4.7.

Your right-on Mr.Frederick! I am a former Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge/jeep line tech back in the 1990's. pre-sellout to the Germans&then frigg'in fiat??........i didn't really plan to keep it for 19 years,it's a 1986 Ramcharger AW150/Royal SE trim/5.2L V-8 2BBL/A727 auto trans. Dont laugh too hard on this, ive been driving this truck with no reverse for 5 years, I m watching the sequence of trans updates to refresh myself on the trans overhaul/diagnostics. im finally doing the planning/purchasing for the job. It runs fine in forward, I had it rebuilt(1,000$} just to have the band break{they put old ones back in}. Thank you MyMopar.com-BigMike.

I suppose if smog tests didn't get tougher, they 318 could have stayed.

Poly was a better cylinder head.

I heard that in 1968, all car companies were required to have a dual circuit brake master cylinder. Also, that collapsible steering column is not a new invention, it is just a new item for that year. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Chrysler continued making polysphere heads. From what I have read, polysphere cars had very good fuel economy compared to engines of similar horsepower.
