Thank you for the video. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the caliber off.

Hey, great video! You made it look easy. I'm debating whether to attempt this job myself, so watching you really helped.

My 2004 Caravan rear parking brake mechanisms were a rusted mess. The drum was not coming off. I used a cutoff tool to chop the rotor off and all of the springs, shoes and all of the other rusted out garbage. I never use the parking brake anyways

I am going to do the original brake parts on my 2006 town and country. I expect to cut everything off again after 15 years of no maintenance.

They are a T45 torx not a hex head bolt fyi
@adamrbuchanan Жыл бұрын
Not on this car. They are definitely standard hex head bolts. I would have used a torx bit if it'd needed one. If that's what is on your 05 town and country, you may have different specs than mine, or someone before you swapped them out. Here is a link for some replacement bolts for the calipers on this van. www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/brake-caliper-mounting-bolt-front/p/duralast-brake-caliper-mounting-bolt-h811/390515_0_0

PRIOR to jacking the vehicle up, I also like to add in 1 additional step.... loosen the lid on your Break Fluid under the hood. When you compress the caliper (later step) it will also push fluid back into the brake fluid resoviour. In a perfect world, it shouldn't matter, but if you have ever ADDED break fluid, now the resoviour is open and won't cause a pressure issue if some needs to leak out. Then of course when the job is done, put that lid back on the brake fluid resoviour.

Completely agree. At 5:01, I show that on the screen in text, but I don't actually show me doing it in the video.

@@adamrbuchanan must have missed that when watching... lol. Just did my rear breaks and it was much easier then most of the other break jobs I have done.... I ran into a few issues... 1) I didn't have a 7mm HEX Socket -- had to go to 3 stores before I found 1 in stock! 2) Putting the break pads on the caliper took a little time and patience and 3) I managed to cross thread one of my wheel lugs (I've taken tires off plenty of times before and have NEVER done this)... so now I have to deal with getting that replaced as well. All and all though the BREAK job wasn't very difficult ... thank you for the video

You didn’t grease the return pins, those bracket bolts should be removed, cleaned with a wire wheel then lubed with caliper grease

Do you have to pump your breaks after the last step?
@adamrbuchanan4 жыл бұрын
Good question. Yes, pump your brakes after you finish up and put the cap back on the brake fluid reservoir. That will push the caliper/brake pad back up to the rotor.

You may find this info fun, I had the soft break and no parking brake thing with a T and C when I bought it. The dealer said he didn't think it was a problem as they bleed them several times and checked them out. I went to a Chrysler dealer and they said it may be something with the back breaks, to have the place I bought it from check them out. I went on KZbin and found this and other videos that explain the problem and I told the dealer what I found and (Heres the funny part) They had no idea this could happen lol. Thay fixed it but this isn't good when dealers service departments dont know crap and coustomers find the fix for them
