Chub Fishing in February - Bread and Feeder!

Following on from my efforts in January, we continue heading out looking for some big chub! Roving along the river over a few sessions we bank some nice fish, sticking with the favourite baits including bread and cheese paste along with some boilies. We managed to bank quite a few nice fish, getting bigger and bigger.... Thanks for watching!

Its interesting seeing how other 'locals' approach the chub in the yorkshire rivers (and make the same mistakes that I made twenty to thirty years ago). That stretch never provided me with a big chub either! Lots (and I do mean loads) of 1-3lb fish with just two over 4lb. I have a photograph somewhere of about thirty such fish caught from a big slack when the river was just fining down after a big flood. I called time on that stretch after that! The nearby lower length that you have access to, offers better prospects, the other river/stretch where you started trotting on another film, better still.

Your tips are going into my brain....never ever fished specifically for Chub....this has sparked an interest in attempting it. I usually rove with lures for Pike or Perch, so this is similar but for Chub.... One of the local water bailiffs swears by using prawns in the River Nene just to the west of Peterborough...my local river....Hmmm ? Must give it a go later in the year. Great channel.....Your enthusiasm shines through dude..... I've even bought a head torch after watching this.....Be prepared methinks.

Great! Welcome to the chub club. I find them one of the most varied and rewarding species to fish for. There are so many ways to catch them using as much or little equipment as you like! I'd highly recommend freelined surface fishing bread down a shallow river, or small crank baits in June when the rivers open again. Thanks for watching!

I have moved the soniks onto some heavier rods for pike fishing and went with some lighter shimano reels for chub.

Did you try caster or maggot for the chub as the bigger fish seem to be fond of small baits from what I've been told.

I seem to remember using maggots on a session, possibly in December. I have gone off fishing maggot a bit, while a great bait they require me to be organised and go to the tackle shop!
