Join me as I fulfil a childhood ambition fishing the River Culm for Chub. For the first time ever i made my own Cheese Paste to leger for Chub in this beautiful little river. To my surprise it worked well and I even caught on Float fished cheese paste

This brings back so many memories. In the 80's, we had a course fishing boom in Australia and I caught so many fish that way.

@@mulletmanpete I’m going to relearned levering for Mullet this year. Used to catch them as a kid on swim feeders with maggots and bread. Most fish we had out of the Dart were 4lb plus but we used to get away with fishing the Salmon beats up by the weird then. Wouldn’t be allowed now. Have other spots to try though

This got me wondering, are long carp style rods a product of not being able to cast bread on weighless hools far?

Could be. Longer softer rod will help with that. The longer the rod the greater the casting arc, the further it will go. Felt quite awkward to be honest being used to our short BFS rods

I use a very short korum 8ft quiver on small rivers sometimes. But I find my 13 foot one gets me out of far more trouble when they are trying to hit snags at my feet, and allows me to hold the line around bankside trees.

@@rupertfirminger-mathieu487 they really do like to head for your feet as well. A longer rod definitely helps. I have a short TFG multipurpose rod that I’ve yet to use.
