Love your channel, guys. Being a big guy myself I can totally relate to the challenges you face with carrying every day. I’m 6’3”, 380 pounds. Right now I carry a full size M&P IWB at 8:00 in a full kydex holster. Yep, a full size, and no printing except when I’m sitting but unless I’m sitting on a bench or something without a back it’s not even noticeable. I actually do find my carry method very comfortable. All day, every day, in my car, at my desk, you name it. What I found helps me the most is having suspenders under my shirt. They give me the support I need to keep my pants where they belong and my gun is supported without being pressed into my body with a super tight belt. I find the hip clip “trucker” style prints under my shirts less, the traditional Y backs WILL print under a T shirt. The side clips also let me tuck my shirt in if I have to, which is seldom, but the shirt just tucks around the clips and the belt covers them. Doesn’t look bad at all.

First point, apendix, the new G2 makes it possible for larger people to carry apendix, within limits. I'm 6'4", 260 and can use one. I have a little 3PAT .380 which, due to its very small size, some can carry just off apendix, in a pocket or small of back for a backup or known situations (Church, backyard picknick, etc. lol) and light clothing carry. Carrying a light is very smart but, as an ex-military trainee/trainer, I need to call out one point. If you're grabbing a light with weak side hand at the same time you're grabbing your concealed weapon with strong side hand, you do not have the second hand to clear your clothing for the draw which should be instinctual with concealed carry technique. Not properly clearing a shirt, sweatshirt, etc. can cause a hangup on the draw and that can cause anything from a delayed draw (advantage opponent) to a negligent discharge. So just consider that and how you get both gun and light in hand. I recommend light first, then you can do a 3 finger clothing clear for your draw and it can be done very quickly. It's worth practicing. Just make sure you can draw your weapon every time with no clothing interference. I carry a Hi Browning 9mm 5 o'clock strong side. And yup, carry an extra mag. I cary a 13 to 20rd, dep. on situation, in the gun and a 13rd in a carrier. It's true that 90% of "street confrontations" occur under 10ft and 5 rounds BUT... Times are changing, bad guys have more fire power and often aren't alone. As you say, you never know. And if you have a mag failure or your partner, or even a stranger, is in the incident with you and needs a reload, you're covered. I often am with others that carry as well. And one thing you point out that is SMART... When you carry you become responsible for everyone in your surroundings and need to think that way. Situational awareness is key for the armed person. These belts are based on "riggers" belts and there are a number of options for comfort, function, buckle type, etc. The good ones have kydex (or polymer) stiched inside. As to the phone case... The "Life case" is a good case, less bulky, waterproof and now is available for Android as well. And there are 1 or 2 decent clones out. Keep it up...

Good vid. Another point would be the clothing. I have been very satisfied with Duluth Trading Company shirts, pants and underwear. The shirts have longer tails that help with the concealment and extra material around the arms that helps when you reach out. The pants have an extra panel of fabric they call "ball room". It is not cheap, but well made and lasts a long time. I'm sure there are other clothes suppliers that do basically the same thing.

FWIW - Glock48 in a canted high riding OWB, 1 size too large Dickies work shirt. The shirt material is pretty rigid, minimal printing, if at all. Tucked in tee underneath, pants up higher than where they used to be. The discomfort of IWB for me was worse than the extra sweat, plus the undershirt catches most of it. Thank you for making this video.

I was 320 lbs. I am now 270 lbs. Keep working on what ever workout/diet plan you have. Keep your expectations on weight loss reasonable. I was happy when I lost 1 TRUE lb per week. It is tough, it will test your resolve, but you will feel better physically and about yourself. I know I do. When I was 320 lbs, I carried on the strong side, and carried 2 spare mags on my weak side. If I wore a loose shirt it almost never printed. When I hit 300 lbs, I bought a G-Code INCOG with MagCaddy for my Glock 19. I carried that at the 1230 - 1o'clock appendix position. That worked for me, except In a few seared positions. I carried that way for almost 3 years and got comfortably used to it. About 6 months ago, I dropped $ on the Unity Tactical CLUTCH. And I wish I had this rig the whole time. I can carry my Glock 19, 2 spare mags, a Glock 26 for back up, a Surefire HLX, a tourniquet, and a trauma kit all in the CLUTCH belt, with ease. I can wear my shirt tucked, untucked, I can wear the belt under my pants, over my pants, with gym clothes, or in my lounging cloths at home. And when you go to take off the belt your entire EDC kit comes off as one rig, plus due to it being a elastic belt system, it has a slimming effect. Bonus! If you want more info about the CLUTCH belt just go to Unity Tactical web page and check it out. Like I said, I which I had this belt system the whole time, it has many benefits. It has been a game changer for me!

Belt -- I wear a 1.5" rigger's belt. I love the buckle as it's larger than the belt loop & can't pull out when you unbuckle to drop your trousers. It's a hassle to put on, but no guns unexpectedly on the bathroom floor when the weight of your gun pulls out your belt from your trousers.

6' 295Lbs. Carrying appendix is possible with some tweaks in the clothes you buy and holsters you use. In fact when done properly appendix carry actually with me helps my pants stay up because the weight is in the front. We all know the issue with being a big guy is the lack of indentation at the lower back which normally helps people keep their pants up. The two big keys are to select lower ride jeans and shorts with a holster that can slide along the belt line. Standing the gun is in the appendix location usually around the first belt loop and when sitting its a simple slide to the 3 position. It's not obvious and is no more than adjusting your pants before you sit like most people do. The benefit for me is I don't have to have my belt extremely tight in the 1 position so nothing is digging in. If I carry in the 3 or 4 position that belt has to be pretty tight to keep everything up which is usually on for a few minutes before I need to adjust. This method I can simply carry either an XDS or HS2000 (XD).

A tip I picked up that is very effective....I wear a set of suspenders between my under shirt and outer shirt, as long as your tend to wear untucked shirts. It takes the weight of the gun away from being only on your belt...keeps you from having to pull up your pants...and allows you to loosen your belt to be comfortable. Just my two cents.

I've heard the Magpull case is great too. Holster -- I carry in a Stealth Gear inside the waistband holster. It's like a Crossbreed but uses a proprietary backing that's padded & breathes. I think the reason you have so many positive comments here is your style, your delivery is a long way from the typical KZbin hero that presents themselves as the final word in shooting and equipment. You don't come off that way and it's really nice to listen because those experts are not usually experts at all but because they own some cool stuff, they think they are the only ones that can recommend tools for selfdefense. Don't ever change. As for my 2 cents, I would tell people to forget appendix carry for lots of reasons, safety is the biggest and it's hard to conceal your draw when the gun is in front of you. Never let anyone know you have a gun or you lose a huge advantage, deception, it is the key to winning any battle. A knife and a flashlight are musts for EDC and I have added in the last year one more thing that is mediatory in my EDC and that's Fox 5.3 pepper spray for those times when you can spray your way out of trouble, shooting and knives should be your last option, you can avoid massive legal headaches and possible revenge by using super strong pepper spray and then, most important is training with all of these tools, they are useless without proper mindset and reaction to think instantly in several different situations, when the time comes to take action, you won't have time to think what to do, it all needs to be automatic and normal, even though it's not. Good luck out there.

I’m packing 290# on a 5’8” frame, said frame being 71+ years old. I have tried a number of different holsters since I started carrying this summer, but I have yet to find anything fully satisfactory. My first was a Kydex IWB from JustHolsterIt. It is well made, conceals well, is reasonably priced, and easy to put on, but it is cut low on the body side and the slide and hammer on my Ruger dig holes in my side when carried at four o’clock. I tried a Sneaky Pete, but could not get over the feeling that everyone was staring at me, wondering what that box on my waist was. I tried an OWB style, but again, the low cut on the body side left the gun chewing on my roll. Currently I am using a 3 Speed holster. It is a soft pouch type with its own Velcro strap belt, so you don’t need a heavy carry belt. The holster is extremely comfortable. You can almost forget you have it on. It retains the gun very well and completely covers the trigger guard, but it is a nuisance to put on and take off, especially when Nature calls, thus my love/hate relationship with it. Complicating things somewhat is the gun/laser combo that I carry. I have significant arthritis in my hands and have trouble with the recoil from most popular CCW calibers. On advice from the head instructor from our local PD, I carry a Ruger SR22 loaded with CCI Stingers or Velocitors. Because of some macular degeneration in my right (dominant) eye, I find a laser sight extremely helpful. I have tried, and may move up to, a Walther PK380, but I would still want a laser on it in some form. In searching the Internet for holsters, I find that most of the highly touted makers don’t acknowledge those guns, or if they do, don’t allow for the laser. And so, the search goes on.
@AKMTACTICAL7 жыл бұрын
+Norman Morgan It is most definitely a give and take, love/hate type of relationship. Our latest video is titled "The Perfect EDC Gun." The irony of the video is that there is no perfect setup. If a 22 is all you can manage, then rock on. Off body accessibility may be something or you to consider. I wouldn't think twice about a 71 year old with a fanny pack. Fortunately for us we haven't had the honor of dealing with the aches and pains of running a 70 year old body daily. But as a nurse that cares for many people in your age bracket, I can say that getting old isn't for wimps. So I salute you for going the extra mile and carrying on a daily basis. Keep us updated on your experience so we can share it with other viewers who get their McDonald's coffee at a discounted price ;) Thanks for the support! Kyle

can't say how many videos I've watched, and until now I find one for the "regular guy"... good!!!! I do love me a flashlight with several intensity modes though... carry a Thrunite TN12, couldn't recommend it enough. The intensity levels allow me to use it on different tasks. For example at night I keep it on my bedstand, if I just need to look for something quickly I can dial it down so as to not blind myself, same if I just need to shine a bit of light on something. The light does remember the last mode used so I usually leave it on the 4th level at bedtime, if I do need it asap it'll blast at that level without having to cycle through the lower ones.

+Esteban M. Man we are thrilled that you enjoy the channel. We are definitely some regular guys. I've have heard nothing but good things about thrunite. I'm really thinking about picking 1 up myself to try. This is Michael by the way!! Thanks for watching.

I have a question If you have already done a video on this matter please send me a link I work as a salesman I’m also a preacher so primarily I wear dress shirt and slacks with and without a jacket my question how would you conceal as a big guy without a jacket with your shirt tucked in
@AKMTACTICAL6 жыл бұрын
+Apostolic Lighthouse Tabernacle you need to look into getting a holster with a tuck able clip. Vedder is a good one, as for a gun, I would carry a sub compact. G26, shield, or g43. Hope that helps, thanks for the support.

Suspenders -- I stop my pants from falling down with Nocono leather suspenders. Get the ones with hooks for your belt loops. That allows you to wear both your gun belt & your suspenders. They come in sizes & have very little adjustment. I messed up the sizing the first time, so Amazon's free returns were great! I also use Duluth Trading's under the shirt trucker suspenders. They are soft enough to wear next to your skin. I love them in the summer under an untucked polo or t-shirt. They aren't as firm as the Nocono's, but they work. But most of the time I wear my suspenders on the outside with my shirt tucked in & bloused over my gun. Nobody notices it. A guy in a shirt & pants just doesn't look armed! You could probably do the same with your Glock 26. I guarantee you could do it if you carried a Glock 43. If there is one advantage to being a big guy, that's it. BTW, I use a kidney carry position.

So would you say that a good gun belt makes the difference when carrying as a fat boi compared to a regular leather belt?

Absolutely. It makes or breaks it, but that goes for everyone not just us big boys.

When I first got my CCW and tried to holster IWB I found my pistol to just be uncomfortable as hell. I ended up getting a tear away fanny pack and with practice can draw very quickly. Im 6'0" 285lb Carry an XD40 standard. I have since bought a S&W M&P 340 (5 round 38cal air weight revolver) I just put it in my pocket but am looking for an IWB option.

because sharing is caring: My normal concealed carry is a glock 23 with a Taran tactical +2 mag extension. I use a leather clip IWB holster I found on Amazon. I carry strong side and the clip is centered on the back edge of the front pocket. That puts the gun just forward of my hip bone and the grip is just above the top of my pants ( I wear my pants above my belly even with my belly button). The grip fits just below and behind my love handle and the love handle conceals maybe the front 30% of the grip. When I grasp the grip, the fat slides out of the way (because of my thumb)and I can draw pretty easily. Re-holster requires to come up from below ( to shift the love handle) and then down. it has worked pretty well for me over the years and uses the gap between the hip bone and the love handle to be able to conceal the grip even in a t-shirt or golf shirt ( which I tend to wear untucked). I would use a sturdy belt and it works better if you wear your belt high. If you wear the belt under your belly, it might work as well, but I found that if I wear it at my belly button , there is a gap between where my pants contact the gut and the hip that suits the gun well, and my pants don't fall down any more than normal. I also suggest a slight forward cant so the back of the slide does not press into the underside of your love handle. I hope this makes sense. Basically I was using the "gun shaped" gap that was already there. If you are built differently, you might not even have it, but it works for me. oh.. and all my reloads (I carry 2 spares) are the glock 22 (full size) mags with the +4 extensions because.... going home with unused rounds is always better than not going home! Good Luck!

JMHO...Carry 2 lights. One super small light for belt or pocket and a light on your gun. Sometimes you need a light to look at door locks / keys at night or engine bay stuff or under chassis stuff as well as search for fuse panels in basements etc. and don't want to draw a gun for that stuff. Also having a light in the weak hand when you need the weak hand free to reload and clear malfunctions and open doors and such is a liability, you only have 2 hands so having a light in one of them makes you only 50% self defense effective, so a light on the gun is worth its weight in gold.

I know I’m late to the party but I do carry appendix and I’m 5’7” 260-270lb. I run the tier one rig with a sig x-carry. I drive bend over and wear 10+hours. It’s not the most comfortable but it is manageable. I know I’m not 300+ but at my height I have a substantial belly(lol) it is doable u just need to find what works for you.

Good content, I'm even more limited being a big guy at 5'8 lol large palms and sausage fingers. Glocks don't fit my hands proper.

I'm 6'3" about 320, and I have to conceal a Glock 17 because I was born with paws as opposed to hands. I can only comfortably and reliably shoot full frame pistols because of my hand size. which sucks. but I'm sure I'll come up with something, even if it means losing the weight so I am more able to defend the ones I love. (my girlfriend likes me being slightly rounder than most)
@AKMTACTICAL7 жыл бұрын
+Tristan Berke the main thing is that you carry. Don't worry so much about printing man. No one else is.

I'm 6 foot 8 and 360 pounds. I carry a glock 17 in appendix with a neutral can't holster. At about the 1 o'clock. The trick in to carry it deep enough so that it rides under the belly roll, and have the barrel of the gun to the left of your right thigh. it works great after you get used to having your junk pushed to the left. It doesn't dig in and is comfortable, it's also what I consider 100 percent concealed because your belly hides the bulge completely. I don't see how people carry any other way comfortably.

Great video brother. I visited Baton Rouge recently and found out that automatics and OTF knifes are illegal to carry unless you are an EMT, military, or law enforcement.
@Xandrosi8 жыл бұрын
Great video! As an aside on the knife and to emphasize your points, you REALLY need to look into local laws at the state and city levels (e.g., New York is restrictive and NYC is even more-so). The Kershaw Blur is a great folder at a great price for outstanding steel (S35V). In some States though, the assisted open feature can get you into trouble. As long as your folding knife is not assisted open or a gravity knife, the handle is not wider than the span of your hand, and it's deep carried (i.e., it's not sticking out of your pocket when clipped), I'm not aware of any state or city where it would not be legal. At that point, it's simply a pocket knife tool. Fixed blade carry is not legal in some states. A good alternative to the Blur is the Emerson design. The "wave" feature makes drawing this tactical folder lightning fast (look up Emerson wave on KZbin to understand). My personal favorite Emerson is the Zero Tolerance (ZT) 0630. If you watch eBay and you're patient, you can pick one of these up for around $140 (roughly 2x the Blur). Workmanship on the ZT is outstanding. S35VN steel.
@AKMTACTICAL8 жыл бұрын
+Xandrosi I'll check Emerson out. We are lucky to live in Louisiana and the laws on all things self defense are pretty awesome. Thanks for the info
