Story time about the benefits of having low friends in high places. Friend (name withheld for decency LOL) was somehow able to procure four tickets for the 60th Birthday Concert for Chuck Berry. Not finding anyone else who could make the long trip on such short notice, I was asked. Of course I said yes in a heartbeat and it was one of my better "Yes" replies. Of course Mr. Berry was the star but with a backing band that included Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Johnnie Johnson-Mr. Johnny B. Goode himself on piano. Etta James, Linda Rondstadt and one of Chuck's daughters having back-up singing duties, they could do no wrong. The audience was a bit of the who's who of the music world and then there was little old me. it was the concert of the decade. St. Louis was quite the lovely city and had amazing Italian food

I was lucky enough to see him live back in the 90's. Probably one of the best shows I ever saw. The cool thing is that he encouraged the piano player to do some solos. For those that don't know, Chuck Berry didn't really have a band, he just had local musicians play backup for him, since everybody knows how to play Chuck Berry. Anyways,. halfway through the show, Berry was like "This guy is good," and just starts jamming with the piano player. No ego, no BS about how he's the star, they just kind of started jamming on stage, and Chuck Berry was happy to give the limelight to some local guy.

Must listen to James Taylor. I've been to over 400 concerts. My parents worked at the coliseum on the 60s,70s&80s. I could tell you stories about backstage that would blow your mind

He's looking around because he has an audience on his side. So he's communicating with everyone Rest in Power. I am glad he made it as old man and also Little Richard. Too many of our singers die too young.

Gotta love Chuck Berry. He was an act where you got more than you paid for. Not only does he have great music but he is an entertainer

Without Chuck you would be lacking just about every band in the 60s

Please react to a song from his last album CHUCK. The song's called "Big Boys". CB rocked from the cradle to the grave

If it wasn't for musicians like him and Elvis, we may never have had rock n roll. I was fortunate enough to see Chuck Berry and Little Richard live in 1999. They have been older but they rocked like they were in the 20's. Chuck even did his duck walk.

Chuck was a good writer and composer of music. He was also a spellbinding performer. His major drawback was his voice.

@y33llowsubmarin Chuck was heavily influenced by the Country and Western music of his era and it shows in his vocal style. I know everyone has their distinctive style. But his particular voice was not in the same league as others of his time. That's my opinion and people will differ on the subject according to their taste.
