Aaron Hislop is right. People often mistakenly think the bizarre imagery in this song is drug-related, but it was written for his son Josh who was 3 at the time. Taken in that light, it makes a lot more sense. Fogerty was describing things to his son that he was seeing outside in the back yard to cheer him up.

My dad had a sheet music stand and sheet music that he would set up at the foot of his bed, and play guitar while singing this song. When we went to my sister's Christmas choral concert in '95, there was a sing-a-long and people around us were enamored by his singing. He passed 6 months afterwards. Love you, dad.

Half the neighbourhood must have heard us.

The internal turmoil in the band was well covered up for most of the early days..... until it wasn't. Older brother Tom's jealousy for John's talent and leadership tore their own relationship apart and ultimately destroyed the band. Even on his death bed, Tom couldn't bring himself to reconcile with his own brother. A very sad sad story indeed.

@@sailor213100 You're right about Fantasy Record executive Saul Zaentz cheating the band out of their royalty rights. Through a couple of books and a slew of interviews I've read, it came out that Tom had a hand in the coercion, making secret deals behind everyone's back with Zaentz. John is said to have confronted Tom before he died about it and Tom admitted doing the band wrong, but never apologized. To me that's the worst part. But there are a lot of other details that come into play which would make this post longer that it is. But he truth is out there for anyone to take the time to research. Two singer/songwriters in the group. Everyone knew and sang their songs, brought their instruments to play along. Had a repertoire of about 30 songs. Never tried to be published-just did it for the joy of it. I always brought my guitar and harmonica. Best present I ever got, they wrote a song about friendship for my birthday. Wonderful memories-sure miss those days and that creative atmosphere of joy.

When this group fell apart, lots of lawsuits, bitterness and broken relationships. John was even sued by them for sounding too much like CCR. Ah, hello, he IS CCR.

That is actually wrong. The publishing company, Fantasy Records, had the rights to all CCR songs. They sued him for plagiarism because they believed the music to "Old Man Down the Road" was the same as "Run Through the Jungle" so he infringed on their copyright. It had nothing to do with his sound but the music. John won but Fantasy refused to pay the court costs so John sued them for those. This latter suit went to the Supreme Court and John lost.

A. The book is called And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street B. What in the hell is Karen Culture? This has nothing to do with white women who like to call the cops on people of color who are just doing normal things. Maybe you meant to say Cancel Culture.

What @gotham61 said. Also, the Dr. Seuss estate themselves pulled the book themselves. There was no protest that led them to do it, or government pressure, they decided that they weren’t comfortable with the racial stereotypes in the books that they dropped.
