Chuck Close- Roy Paper/Pulp Time Lapse.mov

This is a time lapse video of the editioning process of Chuck Close's Roy Paper/Pulp at Pace Paper in Gowanus. It takes 3 people about 6 hours to complete one impression of the edition of 30.
This video is currently on view at the Chuck Close Prints: Process and Collaboration exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC.

whats going on here? what are they using? I thought it was powder of some kind. Then they hold it up. I dont get it

+Steven Rose It's paper pulp. In the end this creates one sheet of paper.

+Eric Scott looks 3d what is the process called..it's really hard to tell what exactly is going on. I supposed those are stencils for different colors not shapes

Sislertx It's papermaking! Normally to make a sheet of paper you pull a screen through some paper pulp of one color and let it all dry at once. Here, they are squirting different colors of paper pulp onto a sheet of wet paper in layers using stencils. In the end, the fibers all mesh together and dry as one sheet of paper.
