A local approached him and said "That's my chair, buddy." Chuck obliged and moved to a different chair with no protest. Chuck then took off his sunglasses and hat with the local recognizing him which made him ask Chuck "Why didn't you just kick my ass?" Chuck replied that violence should be avoided and used only as a last resort. They ended up talking and becoming friendly.

I think that ties into what Chuck said about insecurity. If you are truly confident, as I imagine big muscular guys, and skilled martial artists are, you don't feel a need to "prove" you're a tough or strong guy. You KNOW it. If, on the other hand, you are insecure about yourself, you might almost constantly feel like you have to prove to everyone around you that you are tough. It's also true about bullying (not only physical bullying). Someone who bullies others, is either cripplingly insecure, or just a psychopath... Neither is a good state of mind.
Superman and Chuck Norris once made a bet on who would win in a fight between the two of them. Whoever lost would have to wear their underwear on the outside of their pants for the rest of their lives.
