I think that vaporwave is less a "genre" so much as a philosophy for approaching music. It's about taking what's shallow and giving it depth. The results of this approach are incredibly varied.

For me, this song has a deep feeling of nostalgia. I was born in the 90s, and grew up in the later part of the decade and the early oughts, and they were probably the best part of my life so far. These visuals make me want to relive that era, but they also make me feel like I missed opportunities that I needed to experience. The fact that he samples the line "you know It's just too little too late" makes me sad that I'll never have the chance to live through those emotions again.

I like it because its taking a commercialized pop song with the mass consumer lyrical themes, and then taking it out of context with 'be real, it doesn't matter anyway'. It's like a secret message hidden within the song, because the phrase 'be real' doesn't even really mean anything, so repeating it over and over again starts to reveal that. Theres a whole series of other things going here too, nostalgia, warping of nostalgia, memory, the nature of mass media and it's effect on our conciousness
@danielmbc Жыл бұрын
10 years late yes i totally agree, derrida, braudillard and mark fisher theorized that feeling but only through hypnagogic pop and vaporwave it could be turned into a more manageable, self-explanatory and objetive philosophy it is so 'metamemory' and there are so many infinite approaches to this existencial issue behind vaporwave, lost futures retrofuturism and so on i love it
@eliotguerin192 Жыл бұрын
I take it in a less pessimistic way. The original song does have a significant message that people can relate to; it’s a breakup song. It’s packaged in an easy-to-digest pop song structure, though, so although the negative themes aren’t emphasized much, they are there under the surface. This track repeats one of the lines in the song to the point where the depressing undertone of the original is now plainly on the surface

For me the nostalgia in this is almost overwhelming. It's like all these daydreams of my childhood self were put in a time-capsule in the form of a vhs. You look back and know that these mtv style promises from the early nineties were fake all along and could never be realized, but something about it still breaks your heart. Expertly put together video, really well done.

@Ludamage5 жыл бұрын
Oh really? I made many other videos like this before and after with no any deep concepts...i guess the secret ingredient i put here was just a propely leaked version from tape that has been recordered on the right speed, because all early leaks on youtube and downloads ive seen and heard plus all spreaded fanmades are slowed a bit than it should sounds. I realise it with a very first hearing of the perfect version i had. So...for now this is my very popular video besides all my earliest BoC fanmade uploads. Thank you for proving a value of this video through your thoughts. Much love bud

didn’t the source song come out in 2009?
@InfiniteGenresOfMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@senororlando2 TL;DR My comment was intially a joke response to OP comment. Because Vaporwave was created originally as a joke to mock the 80s even pushing into the early 2K. Anything from music, to clothing to corporate naivety of capitalism to neon colors, to wacky ass commercials etc. Including a few things from the early 2K such as the Nokia cellphone or the Y2K bug. (look it up, it's laughable) Yes but Vaporwave is based off of Synthwave. Hence, the aesthetics. As far as the genre goes, Sunset Corps aka Chuck Person aka Oneohtrix Point aka Daniel Lopatin created Vaporwave with the "Nobody Here," (I forgot the song he sampled though) video uploaded to KZbin and the release of Chuck Person: Eccojams Vol 1. BUT Vektriod's aka Ramona Andra Xavier aka Macintosh Plus's, Flora Shoppe album release made the genre super popular through the song Lisa Frank 420/Modern Computing. Vaporwave aesthetics range from the 80s into the early 2000. Something about lost nostalgia and the corporate boom caused by rapid technological advancements but still retaining simplicity. Shits weird but it works. V A P O R W A V E.

this feeling. "you found a VHS tape from the past. somebody you love (rather girlfriend or friend or somebody you considered as a brother or family) is there. but the face of your love one is covered by the video errors. you try to remember her face, the video repeats in a odd way but all you want to do is remember so hard. tears come from your eyes as you feel despair by pushing yourself to remember more, the best you can, all the VHS recordings from the love one who used to be alive, but nothing, still drowned in the mystery. but all you do is scream of pain and cry. all these happy moments are becoming your desperation on wishing to go back in time and revive all those happy moments from the past. you run away from the TV and go outside, to see the beautiful sky of asthetic fog and night, with the lights of the headlights. all you do is thinking while tears drops from your eyes, with this music in your head all night."

@86wfrancis2 жыл бұрын
