You can see him practice his speech in the beginning from 0:00 to 0:02. At 0:34 look at her, how she´s bracing herself. Yet words clearly fail her throughout. This scene really is incredible. She looks away for the first time 1:13 after he started. Look at her eyes, the sadness is just so deep. When she looks at him again at 1:30 there is no thought of words anymore, she just tries to keep the tears at bay. Her nose sniffing and touch at 2:20 speaks volumes. No matter what she planned to say, she clearly liked his words... to a point where she doesn´t even know what to do with herself than just to swallow it for now...

@strstr2611 - Your comment here clearly and thoughtfully elevates what may be the single most pivotal scene in a multi-season television series - EVER! ...because the writing, the acting (as you share so well) and most importantly, the 'something extra' that these characters' relationship meant coming to their realization of what was possible, and NOT... their 'fork-in-the-road...' WAS THE PIVOTAL SCENE of, and sets up EVERYTHING that happens afterward in 'Chuck.' ...and to watch it... to feel it... proves that it may have never been done quite as good as it was here. GREAT COMMENT! (BTW, Yvonne Strahovski is one of the greatest actors and deserves every accolade and award she gets on 'Handmaids', BUT she deserved them for the world-class performances she gave on 'Chuck', as well!)

​@@SGeeeDubb It took Chuck a bit longer. In the first episode, he wasn't even going to call her when she left her card at the Buy More. And then, Morgan had to answer for him when she came back and asked him out. He clearly thought he had no chance. Then, in episode 2, he believed Casey pretty quickly that she had killed the doctor who was supposed to get the intersect out of his head. It wasn't until the end of Chuck VS The Tango, that Chuck really thought that way about Sarah, after Ellie told him that Sarah did like him, and Carina reconfirmed it in the following episode.

Just seeing Sarahs face as she absorbed every word Chuck says in this scene chokes me up because she doesn't want to lose any connection with him. She even chokes back some tears during the very moving scene. The chemistry and acting talent she and Chuck have make this the best show I have seen in years. Bravo.

I have to disagree. The way she nervously swallows and shrugs her shoulders before she goes over to him, would suggest she's not entirely comfortable with what she's planning on saying. And by this point, she's denied her feelings for him many times, so it's probably not that. I fervently believe she was actually going to tell him about how she felt. It's why she puts her back to him at the end of the conversation. She doesn't want him to see how much his speech affected her.

This series is the "perfect character relationship" show. Those who don't feel it is, just aren't paying enough attention. In fact, the whole "will they/won't they" troupe is just a lack of understanding. For instance, many are disturbed about Chuck declining Sarah's "run away together" attempt at the Prauge train station. What's lost in that complaint, is found - Right Here - in this "greatest thing" scene. This most poignant scene, is the acknowledgement that Chuck MUST ADD something more to being just "a normal guy" if the two of them hope to have any real chance at a future together. Because Sarah can't SUBTRACT from her exceptionalism, Sarah CAN'T be normal. The "run away" future was bound to fail. Sarah would have needed more from Chuck. The truth was always that they just had to grow through their own individual series of steps, in their varying (mostly opposite) ways, to ultimately get to a place where they could really be right for one another, together. Of course even more simply than that, Chuck was falling on a sword for Sarah here. Since her feelings (failure to shoot the woman Ring agent) HAD caused a dangerous hesitency situation, Chuck had to protect Sarah's integrity by forcing distance between them. That is what an exceptional guy; a guy who TRULY loved her, would do. And with that long melancholy look back at Chuck, though it was not what she wanted, Sarah knew that Chuck was painfully falling on his sword... for her. ...the "perfect" character relationship" show.

​@@Freeman1000000 - With the exceptions of: 'The Baby' - 'Vs Sarah' - and - 'The Goodbye' - Season Five (5) wasn't that good... No, in truth the fifth season was actually kinda bad... BUT FOR ME... The Last Minutes On Malibu Beach were... as magical as the 90 and 7/8 episodes that came before (magical like the scene this tread is about and so many other magic moments too)... yet it's in these last five minutes when Chuck and Sarah actually became the epitome of what 'undeniable soulmates' really-truly are. IMHO, those last five minutes made not only Season 5, but the whole 'Chuck' Series... a classic!

@kikkiokioli - I believe it is one of the most pivotal scenes in the series - Chuck explains why he can't be with her because she's a spy, and he isn't... so the plot turns and Chuck realizes he must become a spy for anything to work with Sarah... And he does!

When he becomes more like other spies during season 3, she doesn't like that he appears to be changing from the guy she fell for. As she says at the end of season 3, "I fell for a regular guy." And it's why she's so upset when he goes on the mission by himself, in season 4, where he's captured by The Belgian. Even though he thinks he does, she doesn't need him to prove ANYTHING to her.

These two continue to be friends long after the series is over. Who wouldn't. Just seeing her, in anything, and my heart beats faster. But as great as she is as an actress it was her Skype interview in NERD HQ 2016 that did it for me. Her personality is off the charts. If I were only twenty years younger. Oh well.

The second time Sarah is broken hearted over Chuck. The first was after his question about THE KISS in Chuck VS the Crown Victoria. When he decides to not move with in her, is third. And Prague is actually the fourth time. Says a lot about how much she really does love him, that she could go through all that, considering she'd never had that before. So of course, there's no way a computer could erase all that.

I think, considering this scene in it's context, it might be similar to what he said, but not quite as open or direct. Chuck is affected by Bryce's and Awesome's words, thinking about how Sarah is a spy and how she is in danger and he himself wants more than just a cover relationship. He realizes that it will never work like this and gives this speech here. Sarah is affected by what happened on the two missions before. She went to save Chuck when protocol would have told her not to, and couldn't take the shot, fearing to miss and shoot him instead. When trying to justify herself to Casey he just acts as if nothing happened (probably wanting to keep working with her and Chuck, thinking that she is a great partner). Afterwards when meeting here with Chuck I think she wants to say something similar as what she said to Casey, "I can protect you, I want to protect you", probably having to make clear however, that as a spy she is not supposed to date him. She clearly wants to however. To conclude, I think Chuck is emotional and sad here, but Sarah is even more so. She likes alot what Chuck is saying here. She can't even speak and looks almost fearful at what is to come after his first words. I think even she (she know that she is attractive, can have many men and that Chuck likes her alot) might be slightly insecure of getting together with him. She is worried that she can not be a part of Chuck's life, can not give him what he needs. Hence, the "you will forget all about me line" (this is, when she is done with the job and has to leave him). She fears that what he says will provr true, but is also extremely touched and perhaps a bit happy, that he thinks like that of her. When looking over her shoulder you can clearly see her positive feelings overweigh, wondering if she can really "have him" one day. She wants to be a part of his life, wants what he envisions, which is why she gets sad when he said they "can never have a future together". Decisively, however, later it is "some stupid thing" of Morgan, that she wants to listen to (several times before as well). She later fullfills this dream and really is there for him just as he imagined. :) He, also, will not forget about her even when all hope seems lost. He comes back, knowing who she is, better than herself and they fall in love again :) This scene foreshadows so much :) and is even more meaningful, sad and beautiful in retrospect.

​@@strstr2611 You're probably right, but I'd like to think that maybe she was going to actually finally tell him the truth about her feelings for him. She practically begged him to actually say the words that he loved her, even though she already knew, during their "first real date" and later on in the Buy More, at the end of 2x14. Even as far back as 1x11, when she mentions "after everything that happened with Bryce", I think she's subtlely telling Chuck that Bryce is now just part of her past, which he of course he completely misses.

Best series EVER! Just finished binge watching 2+ times this year. I had to watch S2, 1 thru 3 a couple times to pick up on the subtle clues of Sarah’s feelings. Chuck makes the rookie man mistake of Not letting the woman speak fist. In at the start of the scene, she is less a spy and more like a love stuck school girl and is clearly hurt by the end. Given the clues in the 1st 3 episodes, I’m left wondering WHAT WAS SHE GOING TO SAY?

I like to think she was going to finally tell him the truth about her feelings for him. The nervous swallow and shoulder shrug prior to her comes up to him would seem to suggest she's nervous about what she's going to say. And it's evident in her reaction to his speech. It's why she has to take a few seconds before she responds, about him forgetting about her and why she puts her back to him when she stands up. She doesn't want him to see how it effected her.

THIS is the MOST IMPORTANT take away. Chuck is falling on his 'love' sword for Sarah, so incidents like the hesitation at the train station won't happen to Sarah anymore! AND Sarah knows it, by her extended look back at Chuck after they go in/talk with Ellie and Devon - which makes the heartbreak even worse for both of them. None of Sarah's "hero hunks" could/would ever come close to Chuck - her perfect soulmate.

Agreed. As much as pretty much all fans of the show love Bryce as a character, he actually prolonged the Charah emotional roller coaster at least twice, unintentionally. His telling Chuck that Sarah had real feelinfs for him clearly lead to this scene (although when he said it, he did come off like a bit of a jealous douche). And the fact that he was the one to tell Chuck that Sarah was staying, likely contributed to Chuck's decisions to upload Intersect 2.0 and not to run away with her in Prague.
