Listen to Chuck saying "I want more". I want a life - a real life". He is saying this to Sarah who has just devoted the last two years of her life to PROTECTING him. The one constant through the series was that Chuck was always selfish. Chuck never deserved Sarah.

His life was changed , he didn't want the intersect he didn't ask for this life to be in constant threat he just wanted to be normal with the girl he loves any normal person would do that he didn't have any skills or abilities except being good in computers so being a spy was too much for him....in the finale he uploads the 2.0 after bryce dies he realizes that he might be the only hope that the gov retains the intersect and the ring doesn't get it at that moment he decides to step up every step he took from that point onward was to become a spy rather than asking sarah to leave with him he doesn't go with her when she plans to run away in between s2 - s3...he tells her in thr speech s3 e2 that he made choice because she was he one who taught him to think for the greater good and he couldn't walk back knowing the intersect in his head could help many ppl .. this was the character development he was selfish for his personal life everyone is ... but even when he had 1.0 and no abilities he would put himself in harms way to safe casey or sarah although he was scared and wanted to de done with it ..so i dont think if he wants a normal life in this scene makes him selfish ..it was Sarah job to protect the intersect.. in the beginning few epi of s1 she is just nice nd sweet to him as part of her cover just like she does for any other mission (plus being gf so that his family doesn't find out) she roughs him up in s1 e2 but its later that she realizes that he is no security threat and just a normal guy that she genuinely starts being nice to him....her mission was to get close to him and see what he knows and do whatever the agency decides since he was no threat as sarah reported the agency decided to use him and whenever they planned to eliminate him or take him to secure Location she became protectiv3 because chuck wasn't some of her usual assignments i.e bad guy he was a normal guy who despite not asking for this life was helping them in anyway. Thats the thing she liked about him and she had feelings for him ever since they went out in s1 01 but since back then she was only trained to think like a spy she spent like almost 2 seasons denying those feelings saying its not correct to fell in love with an asset and then the bryce returning arc and chuck hanging out with restaurant girl caused setbacks but she used to be jealous because she started to geniunely care for him because if his pure heart....as sarah herself said no one has ever tried to care about her and chuck was the one person who cared for her even though he didn't know anything about her and he even refused to ask her anything about her prev life when she told her that he could as he helped her face her fears in the homecoming party episode

​@@mehroxsyed7203 AMEN... Couldn't have said it any better. In Season 1 & 2, he can’t wait to get rid of the intersect from his head, and have his normal life back. Wanting a normal life isn’t selfish at all. Being a spy is dangerous because although he has the intersect in his head, he is not an operative who has the spy skill set like Sarah & Casey and had to rely on them to save his life when danger lurks. After Intersect 2.0 happens, he wanted to become a super spy in Season 3 because of what Sarah said to him before, to use the intersect in his head to help other people and for the greater good. Besides the reason he thought Sarah could never fall in love with a regular guy like him. If he becomes a super spy, he will get the girl. I actually like the character development for Chuck in season 3. Mid season 3, Chuck & Sarah, after break-ups and hooking up with other people, finally realize that they love each other and meant to be together. Their relationship grows and so does Chuck as a spy in Season 4. Then Season 5 happened and ruin it all.

it was the opposite, sarah manipulates him and lies to him for 2 years, says she loves him, demands and would like an honest relationship with him, when she is the first to lie to the people who welcomed her into the house as one of them never completely trusts chuck, neither his abilities nor his personal details, he rejects her in prague, she rejects him in 2x22 "I leave for washigton tomorrow and I leave with Bryce", chuck has had his prague but does not treat her coldly as she does in all s3, she is dumping chuck for that kind of man who doesn't want chuck to be in s3. He trusts an incompetent spy like Shaw more, when with all the betrayal he has experienced he was the last person to trust, unlike bryce he was not heroic. A hero does not follow personal feelings (chuck in Prague), Shaw is obsessed with revenge in the name of his wife, it is the only real trait he had, both as an ally and as an enemy. Even when they are together he reveals nothing of his passayo look at 5x07. If we go back to the show in 1x01 sarah says that chuck can't escape, where he thought he was going to Prague, chuck saves her career (from prison) and life, beckman and the cia would never let him escape, he was there intersect. It keeps chuck in a state of the impossible for 2 and a half years, everything he does in s3 is hypocritical and selfish. She can't be with him because he's a killer, but she goes with someone who is worse and more responsible for the (not so negative) changes in the person she loves. He never makes his point in all s3 up to 3x10 and 3x11, when it's too late, even when they are together he trusts shaw more than chuck, He defines his red test as the worst day of his life, it doesn't help chuck to overcome it, he doesn't even check what happened, he doesn't notice that the mole has a gun pointed at chuck, in that case it would be self-defense. Chuck was a saint to pass over all of this, like it was nothing, it was sarah who didn't deserve chuck anymore. She further accuses him in 4x07 of trusting a stranger, chuck does it in one episode, sarah does it for 8-9 episodes in s3. She doesn't see Shaw's manipulations against her and chuck, she uses her fears to push her away from him, she should be able to read people, she's super smart and she falls for it like a little girl.

Maybe I will not say he doesn't deserve Sarah but you are right about he is selfish. Self-centered and impulsive. Yeah maybe because he is just regular civillian. One time, he wanted the Intersect out of his mind and back to his bormal life, another time he wanted to be spy. God that is so frustating.. But however I still love the show ❤

It's not being selfish. It's completely understandable. At this point, he still thinks it's not possible for them to have a real relationship. He explained why in the third episode of the season and although she clearly was disappointed by his explanation, she at the same time understood where he was coming from. And had his dad not interrupted, she was going to tell him here that she was staying. So she was willing to give up the only life she really knew, for him, he just didn't know it. But he also later on risked his own life to save Shaw, which is ultimately what made her realize that he was still "her Chuck", regardless of his red test. And, there's something to be said for the fact that he was always just himself around her, he didn't need to try to be something he's not. After all, Chuck and Bryce really aren't that different. They were both exceedingly loyal and Chuck has always shown himself to be brave, even without any training, and risk his life for his friends and family. It's why he ultimately decided to become a spy after all.
