It's because that's usually the wise thing to do (because ABS is a thing). In some situations, it can be very dangerous, hence why you should never take that risk in snowy weather. People are taught to hold their brakes and let ABS do the work but either forget or aren't aware that that often doesn't work in the snow (it usually does though, which can fool people into a false sense of security).

Most of the time a low speed and easy and steady on the gas helps a lot and lots of people if it starts spinning while trying to take off from a dead stop they want to start giving it more gas sometimes if you just back off of the gas a little it will just give enough of power to pull without actually spinning and if a vehicle ever starts sliding lots of people either lock up the brakes instead of steering and if you have the brakes lockdown you cannot steer all you got to do is just let off the gas and steer it and not oversteer causing it to fishtail more
@AnalogWolf2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video. I find it hilarious how many people don't understand basic physics- if your tires are spinning, you aren't getting any traction. Honestly, in snowy conditions, the only thing I’m typically concerned about is other drivers. I’ve owned everything from a Camaro and RX-8 to a Grand Prix to my current car, an Impreza. Over two decades of driving and I have never hung any of them up in the snow, and there are three reasons for that: 1) My vehicles were properly maintained and mechanically sound. 2) I took manual control of the transmission and keep it locked in the middle gear. This helped prevent wheel spin and also prevents having to use the brake as often. 3) If the thought of driving in a certain storm put me on edge, I didn’t drive unless it was absolutely necessary.

We are always using the winter tires, often with studs from november/december to late, mars/april - even in the south of Sweden. The northern part is likely to use them longer. About 2 years ago, I bought a Used Subaru Impreza. We had 9 inches of snow and this thing went through it like a tank, No spinning at all. I stopped in our road that wasn't plowed, Started off without a problem. I won't buy a car unless it is AWD or 4X4. It's Amazing

When I first got married, we only had one car, so I left it for the Wife, and I rode my 175 Yamaha duel sport back and forth to work. This was in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and it snowed a lot there. I got pretty good at riding on ice covered roads. I had to watch out for the idiots though. I had an ace up my sleeve though, because I was so maneuverable. I have been known to move over to the sidewalk to get out of the way of a sliding idiot. I was 19 years old, and bullet proof, like most 19 year olds. I have always loved driving on stick roads, and I now live in Idaho, and we get our share of snow covered roads. I still, to this day, enjoy driving on slick roads, and I am now 75 years old. I still ride dirt bikes too, but not so much in the winter. LOL

@@adamspeck1546 Yep, i would much rather drive a 2wd car with proper tyres over any AWD/4WD car with summer tyres on. Winter tyres are only a few hundred euros and can last for a few years, small price compared to potential damages/towing costs :)

Thats the time when the automatic transmission really sucks. With a manual gearbox you have much better feel and control how to apply the power. But in general, winter weather just sucks. Especially if you have to perform in a job. I always feel sorry for the poor UPS guys, truckers and so on. They are expected to carry on whatever happens. I had a job like that as well, thank god I'm retired now. So if it snows now, I just turn around in bed and sleep a bit longer. :)

I am STILL waiting for our first appreciable snow. I have my winter beater 1988 GMC S 15 Jimmy with 4 WD, 4 GNARLY ASS studded tires, 180 pounds of sand over the rear axle, HD tow strap, FRONT AND REAR DASH CAMS, coal shovel (and if you are not from back east you won't know what that is), warning lights, extra pair of electric socks and a spare pair of winter boots, a -30 degree sleeping bag and nuts and dried fruit and candy and Power Aid, extra gloves and just for shits and grins a GOOD set of chains. I can't wait to go out and about and pull these hick cowboys with their fancy schmancy $70,000 purdy pick ups and their ALL SEASON TIRES out of a ditch. I hope to have some great videos this year. Studded winter tires will do just fine. I've driven in conditions like these for 34 years and I've never had any problems to speak of. Winter tires without studs would also be just fine, as long as it isn't "all season". I'm a truckdriver by trade and on those there are no studs.

As a Canadian, I simply can't fathom how this happens each year (the drivers), because I know snow happens each year. If I ad a car, it would have roll up sand channels and chains in addition to a shovel. Cars often get into tricky spots, but I prefer to be able to get out of them too.
