My headcanon about the koopa and boo is that they were already secretly in a relationship before bowser's castle got taken over. Once the mind control wears off, they're both like "oh, uh, lord bowser, it was only because of fawful" trying to save face. Meanwhile, while Bowser isn't outright cheering them on, he's just like "i dont care. Date. Dont date. Just make sure you're still doing your job." Its not that farfetched, bowser saw a goomba leave to start a family in mario rpg. The goomba actually said that he'd be ready to serve once more, and instead of chewing him out, he said to stay and take care of the family, he has more minions. Bowser has never been one to be completely heartless.

If there is one thing that's consistent about, Boswer it's that he is a surprisingly good leader to his minions to the point where you can actually see why they're loyal to him despite how quick to anger he is. Heck the fact, Fawful had to brainwash them to make them do as he says shows they're loyal to, Bowser no matter what under normal circumstances.

Fun facts time! - Midbus' charging punch attack can be punched an extra time after he staggers, damaging him and knocking him back. Additionally, in the remake, instead of charging up a punch, he'll charge up a massive slam, but aside from that the attack works the same. - In the remake, the heavyweight cage match of all destruction is, rather curiously, lacking a cage. I guess the cage is mental or something? Like Bowser *thinks* he's trapped. - Fawful's mind control method was actually directly shown in the Superstar Saga remake, specifically during Bowser's Minions. He uses his vacuum helmet to release a gas that mind controls any minion that isn't fanatically loyal to Bowser. Rather humorously, Private Goomp is shown to fall foul of its effects depressingly fast.

I'd like to bring up that I really love Midbus' design. They really got creative with "mixing animals" together and making him look like Bowser. They could have been lazy and made a pink colored Bowser, or a very "Koopa like" enemy, but they didn't. Major props, I'd love to see him return tbh. His actual character is alright, nothing too special, but I just really love that design, man.

Getting to this point was a big milestone for me during my first playthrough when I was a kid. This was one of the earliest turn based rpgs I played and it was a struggle to get through every boss. A very very important fun fact about Bowser's bosses: You actually have follow-up for a lot of their attacks despite looking like there's only one way to defend them. For Midbus, there are two: For his bounce attack, once you defend it with your shell, you can follow-up with a punch after he lands in front of you. For his gut-punch attack, after you break his concentration, he reels forward JUST enough for you to land a sucker punch to his face immediately after. Obviously you have to time that last punch as spamming it isnt guaranteed to land. If you're reading this Emile, be very mindful of this as this applies for most of Bowser's non-giant bosses.

Something I like about Midbus's design is how he mirrors Bowser in a sense with Bowser being a mix between a bull and a turtle while Midbus is a mix between a hog and an armadillo. Both are a mix between a farm animal and a shelled animal.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure you actually *can* damage Midbus during the attack where he puffs up his stomach and you punch him repeatedly if, once you land the punch that finally knocks the wind out of him, you then stop spamming X and instead wait just a tick before punching him again. You'll nail him right in the face as he staggers towards you, and *that* punch will actually deal damage. His stagger is specifically timed such that, if you just keep spamming X, you'll whiff it.

Time for another day of talking about my favourite game of all time: and what a moment it is, I know it happens super early in the game, but the midbus vs bowser battle is so cool, and even has a cool buildup with the VIP chair and the cage, such an awesome moment… however, when I first played this game, I really struggled with realising why it wasn’t letting me into the theatre, I somehow kept missing one of the NPC’s you had to talk to and kept walking in circles, but it was worth it for the fight

He's got the entire castle's army under his command. Shawn: At least some of us are still loyal to you, King Bowser. Bowser: Sure, that's great and all. Starlow: Hey, they're just doing their job, ok? Bowser: And I expect you to do your job and make me thin again, you hear me!? Starlow: I'm working on it, relax man. Goomther: Looks like we're going to be here for a while. At least there's food for us to eat. Shawn: Yeah, look on the bright side. *Bowser gives a side eye to Shawn* Shawn: I-I mean, Shy Guys! Heave! Shy Guy Squad: Ho! *attempting to use their rope to pull Bowser out from the floor* Starlow: I'd better write all of this down. Starlow's Log Day 13: Bowser finally made it back inside of his castle; however, it seems as though Fawful has converted the place into a theater. Apparently, Peach's Castle is where he intends to rule with an iron fist. We can't let him do that, so finding Peach is our number one priority. After getting thrown onto the stage, Bowser had to take on Midbus for a rematch. He managed to win the fight, but the reward was seemingly a trap. The Boos stuffed Bowser with so much food that he became fat and got stuck in the floor. I'm going to be honest, though, it was kind of funny. Jokes aside, we'd better find a way to help Bowser out and also find Princess Peach. Starlow: Done. Luigi: *speaks in Italianese* (Did you hear that conversation between that Koopa Troopa and Boo?) Starlow: I know, right? I mean, good for them and I hope they have a great life together, though it does seem a bit strange. Mario: *speaks in Italianese* (Not for me.) Starlow: Really? Mario: (Some old friends of mine, a Paratroopa and a Boo, dated each other and were later engaged.) Luigi: (You mean Parakarry and Lady Bow? How come I've never heard of that?) Mario: (Well, you weren't with me on that adventure, remember.) Luigi: (Oh, right. I was busy watching the house. Regardless, I'm happy for them.) Mario: (That'sa good to hear, bro.) Starlow: How many adventures have you been on before? Luigi: (Too many to list.)

Captain Shy Guy: We won't be able to free them without Lord Bowser's brutish strength. Let's wait until we build our numbers. Lakitu: Bad news guys. They must’ve escaped! Hi friends! We’re here to save you! [After the conversation about waiting for the show.] Goomther: What has that Fawful guy done to our friends? Bowser: More importantly, WHAT HAS HE DONE TO MY CASTLE!?!?!?!?!? (All look around to see the new decorations in Fawful’s liking) Shawn: Wow. He has some good taste. Bowser: (gives him a death glare) Shawn: I- I mean… All this is awful! Like, look at those statues! Bowser: Urgh! Make me wanna punch these things to pieces with my bare hands! Brainwashed Goomba 1: Please do not touch the status. Besides, aren’t they _so pretty_. (Makes smooches at one of them) Bowser: Gross! Get away from that filth you pea brain! (Bowser talks to everyone who are all acting like different and oblivious people, until they come across the Koopa and Boo couple) Koopa: When the show is over, I’m going to show you a good time.😏 (rubs a finger on the Boo’s chin) Boo: [GASPS] _Ohh, please do!😍_ (Koopa and Bow start kissing with tongue involved) Goomther and Shawn: EGH! 😖😖 (Koopa and Boo continue showing their feelings) Loyal shy guy trooper: (in a grossed out voice) _That’s just not right…_ Bowser: (covers his eyes) Agh! I can’t take much more of this! GO GET A ROOM YOU IDIOTS!!! (Bowser and his loyal minions start leaving the two alone) Bowser: (still cringing) This can’t be happening. Next time I see that Fawful, it’s _not going to be pretty._ (cracks knuckles) And this time, nothing shall distract me! (foreshadowing the fact he does get distracted and fooled by Fawful towards the end if the video)

This is my favorite iteration of Bowser Castle…ever. Everything about this place is amazing. The music/atmosphere is definitely Bowser but twisted with a pinch of Fawful (outside sounds corrupt while inside Bowser sounds lonely), the brainwashed minion interactions are funny, the idea of turning the castle’s main floor into a theater is super interesting, and (for now), you don’t do any fighting aside from Midbus’ cage fight (who was the first big roadblock for kid me that I can remember). Fun fact: Midbus is the only boss fight in the game where the Bros can never get involved. Midbus doesn’t summon allies and keeps it a fair 1v1 against the Koopa King, thus making this rival rematch super satisfying to win (especially now that we can guard against the ground pound). Sure, the crowd tosses stuff up, but that’s not in his control. It’s a great fight! Then Bowser gets chunky (which is hilarious), and it hits you: Fawful lured Bowser to his home after taking it over, to have him win against his minion, only to get him stuck there by chubbing him up. He’s playing chess while everyone else plays checkers! That’s all I can speak of about the Castle for now, but so far, it’s perfect, and you know we’ll be back here given the pipe and the balcony we can’t get to, but best believe I’ll be praising the castle soon again. And now we delve into Bowser’s fat to see what’s changed and hopefully find a way to fix him, because even the game doesn’t know if this can be reversed (and see if our Princess is in there)

This was always one of the most memorable scenes in the game to me. From the sinister layer of oppression that comes from being surrounded by your own minions being brainwashed into utter devotion to someone else, to the parody of the theatergoing experience (and theater performing experience), to the unavoidable crawl towards Bower's fatty doom (which _definitely_ was some people's feeder awakening), it all stuck in my mind as really narratively significant.

What starts as an attempt by Bowser to reclaim his stolen castle becomes a waltz through a Fawfulized theater full of brainwashed minions, a cage match rematch against his first tutorial boss, Midbus, and getting much more than he bargained for with a victory feast. Gotta say, though, all of that food that Bowser gets to eat (and is then tricked into eating) looks freaking delicious.
