Let’s be clear. Nobody gets “screwed” On this show. They all enter into an agreement. If the owner of the property is willing to take less than what it’s worth then that’s on them.

Correct Market value is determined by two people agreeing on a price the seller and the buyer. The word no is available at any time. And as a business you have to look at the purchase as a long term investment. It's not like they can just pick up the phone and call a buyer. To keep something for that long takes space and every square inch of space has a cost associated with it as does time.

You are never going to get what its worth in the setting of a pawn shop. Its much closer in the range of 50-60% depending on what it is and the actual value of the item. The higher the value and rarity of the item, the more likely a pawn broker is going to pay a higher percentage of the total value. I've seen Rick shell out about 75% value for some really high priced items.

The shop owner has his or her investment to cover to begin with, then there are the operating expenses, employee salaries, taxes, building upkeep, mortgage and loan payments, utilities, insurance, etc. At 25% profit is pretty slim. It is not unusual for business to legitimately charge what is know as "triple keystone", that is three times the cost of the item sold. This is particularly true in the jewelry industry. I know. Agreed. I collect comics and I can straight up tell you that knowledge and connections is worth a ton. I could give a random person a Hulk 181 and they will have no idea what to value it at, how to sell it or why it's (or even that it is) potentially worth thousands of dollars. Nor will they know the steps they need to take to maximise the value by having it cleaned, pressed and graded or how to advertise it to the right buyers. What is happening here (for the most part) is that people are selling it to someone for a good price and the shop does the hard work from there. It's not like the average person has the connections or $3000 freely available to properly restore katanas.

Misleading title. It a pawn shop. They have to make a profit. I didn’t see anyone in this video that got screwed over. Sure the customers could have gotten more from the items, if they done the leg work and sold them to collectors. They chose to do a quick sale at a lower price, the pawn shop then takes on the job of of finding rare collectors for rare items. It’s typical buying at wholesale and selling at retail. The same thing every profitable business in world does.

I grew up in a shady neighborhood, in the early 90s. I use to go to this pawn shop in Philadelphia and buy 3 cds for 10 bucks .I have 1 hell of a cd collection .I can only imagine what the pawn shop owner was paying for them.

Designer clothing and purses are some of the biggest thieves based on the logic of this video. Take $2 worth of cotton and $1 of labor and sell the shirt for $60 or $15 worth of material and sell that purse for $500
