I like how as the fight progresses, they both slow down and become worn out. Some of the hits miss and they both begin to take longer to devise their next moves. It's a natural progression that alot of movies and anime with combat tend to forget.
@ShadeSlayer19112 жыл бұрын
And that's one of the cool things about choreographing a longer more drawn-out fight scene. I feel like I don't see very many truly drawn out fight scenes between somewhat equally matched fighters anymore. If it is a drawn out fight scene, a lot of the times now it's one person having the overwhelming advantage for the majority of the fight. Or a lot of the times, it's drawn out by slowing down the movement to pad the runtime, which is also annoying. So even though the scene itself may have been several minutes long, there's only like 2 or 3 notable moves from each fighter. I remember My Hero Academia doing this a lot. And even though I love that anime, that's one thing that really annoyed me about their fight scenes. Or there's the DBZ style of drawing out fights, which is boring repetition and reused frames.
@sethraelthebard54592 жыл бұрын
@@ShadeSlayer1911 Exactly. Modern fights scenes over-use the "shaky cam" so much because choreographing a fight scene takes times, effort, talent, and above all, money! Hence why so many fights scenes in recent years have been chaotic displays of moving cameras to mask the fact that little actual contact is taking place. I miss the older martial arts films that looked like actual FIGHTS, not the flashy dance sequences in low-light environments.
@StonedHunter2 жыл бұрын
That is a fantastic detail that I wish more people utilized. You can really see it in her last barrage of kicks that she's really having to push through the pain and exhaustion to deliver enough to finish it

Chun-Li also fought very cleverly. Notice how at 2:15, she deliberately launches her attack from an angle where, due to his earlier injury, Vega's left eye is swollen shut and thus he's unable to properly see where her attack is coming from (and because he was standing on the narrow beam, he can't easily change his facing in time). In subsequent attacks she keeps on attacking from this blind spot, and it's how she was able to win the fight despite Vega's early advantage.

@@Krystalmyth This is bs. You should know that the quality of the animation does NOT depends on money, it only depends on the staff who works on the anime. I love that they didn't go all "Girl Power" on this scene, like you'd see in recent movies. Chun-li had to freaking work for it and gut her way through by sheer willpower. She took an absolute beating from Vega and pushed through because her alternative was death. This doesn't show some lopsided fight between bad guy and good guy. Instead, it shows the power of the Fight or Flight instinct, and what sheer willpower can do when it counts.
@machinaowl9102 жыл бұрын
I guess you have a point with movies like Captain Marvel (lol), but there's nothing wrong with a fantasy where one character stomps everyone without difficulty. Male characters have moments like that all of the time, so female characters can have them too in my opinion. It's a power fantasy to me. A woman isn't going to be able to do any of this fancy shit she's doing in real life anyways lol. Narratives about women overcoming adversity through effort can also be paired with fiction that shows a female character as incredibly badass and powerful, and they don't necessarily contradict each-other.

Please. If this movie came out today, Internet chuds would be whining and moaning that the fight was "unrealistic" and how it was "FemiNazi" nonsense because a woman as "Small" as Chun-Lie wouldn't have been able to "Realistically" beat someone as big and as strong as Vega, and it's just a part of a Feminist agenda to push the "Strong Woman" narrative over traditional male heroes.
@t.sorvig35402 жыл бұрын
@@RDMacQ and yet, the concensus in 2022 seems to be that this fight is freaking awesome and isn't "unrealistic" or "FemiNazi nonesense," specifically because Chun-li largely gets her ass kicked for the majority of the fight, managing to come out on top largely because she was in a literal do or die scenario, whereas Vega didn't face such a consequence for failure, besides a bruised ego. Were this to come out today, the going (awful) trend would completely throw the nuance and suspense of the fight out the window in favor of the "Girl Power" mentality. What we would get wouldn't be a grounded, brutal, believable fight. Instead, we'd get a "Rey vs Kylo" style fight, circa 2015 onward. In other words: garbage. Today's writers need to take note of a believable, strong, and likeably female character.

@@t.sorvig3540 Because people grandfather it in as a "Good" example of how to do "Feminism" the "Right" way. As *I* stated, Chun-li pretty much got her ass kicked for the majority of this fighting, being on the verge of collapsing, yet pulls through by playing to her own strengths and Vega's weaknesses (specifically, his arrogance and vanity). This is how the best fight are done, where both opponents are evenly matched, and trading vicious blows while receiving real and visible damage. Edit: There's been some confusion about my comment so I'll clarify. When I say the fight is evenly matched I am referring to the fighter's skills, i.e. martial arts, not their physical strength, physiques, and weapons. I'm also referring to the exchange of blows, which is nearly the same, enough to keep the viewer guessing, as on commenter pointed out. Clearly, the fight is not even in these other categories. Each fighter excels in areas the other doesn't. Vega lkely has greater upper body strength (based on his physique) and is using a weapon. Chun Li fights bare handed, and likely has greater leg strength, as her fighting style carries a greater focus on kicks. Chun li is at a disadvantage because of the weapon. It can cause damage more easily then bare hands, and gives Vega a greater reach. Both opponents seem to possess the same speed, aside from Chun Li's super kicks. Some have pointed out that Vega's surprise attack makes the fight uneven. Had the attack worked I would agree. This has no relevance on the actual fight though, as the attack misses and Chun Li gets on the defense very quickly. The fight itself is very grounded in reality, with neither character clearly breaking the laws of physics or performing feats beyond that of normal human beings. I have no problem believing Chun Li can pick up and toss a sofa in the heat of battle when she's in a fight for her life and hopped up on adrenaline. People in real life have performed similar acts.

@Alvin Hill how is she weaker when this fight was greatly in Vega's favor? You just mentioned he had the advantage of surprising her and another person just mentioned she was unarmed vs someone who has a weapon already. If anything this just proves Chun is stronger and faster. And she won, so it's stupid to say she's weaker just because she's a female character.
@ecor1505 жыл бұрын
@Alvin Hill Street fighter is not based on real life. So a female character can be stronger. How did I know you were gonna respond with that "but men are physically stronger than women" bs. Maybe you need to check your own sexist biased when watching fictional stuff and perhaps you'll enjoy it more.

The look only on his face when Chun-li just picks up the couch and chucks it at him is enough to make this one of my favorite fight scenes, not to mention it's just a damn good fight scene.

Bravo to this animation house for giving this fight scene the rawness and ferocity that I always thought Vega had. Such a beautiful fight scene too

Not only that, but if you think about it, while they made her seem weak or at the very least unhinged from being so caught off guard, they still made her insanely strong. The scene where Vega is taunting her and she then proceeds to pick up a whole ass sofa from a position of disadvantage and fling it fast enough to hit Vega was such an under appreciated scene. Her upper body isn’t even her main strength. Then she still manages to use her main strength, her lower body, to pummel this s.o.b with a barrage of kicks on a sprained ankle. Fact: Chin-li is a bad bitch.
