It rolls like stockinette. You could use it for a side if you put in a facing.

Hi Diana....At what tension do you do this cable? I am doing it at 8 impossibly tight...not much more success at tension 9. Please help.

Sounds like your yarn is too thick. Try it with a DK weight on your bulky. The yarn needs to have some elasticity, so avoid cotton.
